Li-Ion Batteries - 18650 Price Difference

Need to get couple of protected 18650 Li-ion cells but why is there such a big price difference between the below two.
The ebay ones are more than double!

The cells are completely different the GA cells are a newer higher drain cell.

The NCR18650B are fairly old now and good to use in lower drain applications. They have a Peak current draw of maybe 8-10amps for short burst and a continuous current draw of about 5amps.

The NCR18650GA have a much lower internal resistance and offer a better drain current. Peak drain current is around 15+amps for short burst. the continuous drain is rated at 10amps but they should do maybe 13amps continuous before getting to hot.

The GA cells overall are a tad better at 5amps they offer slightly more capacity at 3200mah while the B cells drop to 3000mah capacity. This is also depending on the protection circuit because they are added after market. Also the protection circuit on the B cells will activate a lower current than the protection the GA cells. If you are using these batteries for a standard torch save your cash and get the B cells they will perform the same at low currents up to 3amps.

Its best to buy cells with Seiko protection boards.

You can get the GA cells cheaper if you dont mind buying from China?

    • Thanks for the insights!
I will be using the cells in a headlamp, their max draw is 1.5A so I dont see a point in getting GA cells, especially if they are double the price of B cells.
I don't mind buying from overseas if the product is genuine and 2-3 week wait is not a deal breaker.
Never bought these cells before, can you please suggest good seller with reasonable price?

      • What light did you buy?
I usually buy from Gearbest,Banggood, Fasttech all my cells have come from them unless i get cells included with a torch. Gearbest will have the best prices than Fasttech i think Banggood charge a higher price per cell.

I am not sure if there is any shipping issues now last cells i bought where Liitokala 26650s.

Companmies like Soshine, orbtronics heaps add there own protection circuit and that adds on cost. There are also option from Samsung and LG for protected cells.
I don't use many protected cells so i am a tad pout of the loop.

        • Agree totally. Gearbest or Banggood and stick to Panasonic, LG or Samsung.

FastTech is usually my choice due to their 9 day Australian shipping, but that doesn't apply to batteries and they're usually a bit more expensive. However, they have been known to give store credit refunds if you can prove that cells are under advertised capacity (the "actual" capacity that they often put in the description, not the title number), which may be of interest if you're buying cheap cells.

        • https://www.gearbest.com/headlights/pp_251155.html?wid=21 that's the light I bought.

with Gearbest, all the ncr18650 batteries come up as "cannot ship to Australia"

Fasttech - has free shipping and ncr18650B cost $16

          Banggood - $22 - $25 including shipping

          so Fasttech seems the cheapest.
I read on some post that there might be issues with shipping batteries to Australia.
          Did anyone order from Fasttech?

        • @yudi: it's best to message there customer service and ask. Shipping is harder now but I got 22650 just after they changed the laws for posting lithium cells.

  • For a good local store for 18650s http://stores.ebay.com.au/supersports600
