Got a text this morning claiming that I had won a gift card and offering a link to click on. But there were two mistakes: they addressed the wrong first name, and this is a new SIM with a new number only good for the next few days. So I deleted the text.
There is a long article with example scams at the Woolies site: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/discover/about-us/scam-al…
It's a specific case of this trend: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/328056 Texts used to cost money but now that they are free with most plans, scammers are using them more. All they need is a computer driving a SIM.
If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
I've gotten emails as well purporting from Woolies saying "You've been selected to participate in a survey!"
Which is terrible because 1. Who the hell wants to do surveys? and 2. It came from some hacked "[student]@aws(?).edu.au" email address which bore no resemblance to any actual Woolies email address.
