  • Amazon, not Amazzon

      Fixed, thanks!

This is one of the best Chromebook devices in the market! Fantastic price too.

    • Agree but I would say not 'one of the best' but 'the best'.

      • I'm more partial to the 3:2 screen ratio of the Samsung Pro and the Pixelbook and Pixel LS though… if this had a 3:2 ratio, I would probably sell my Pixel LS and get it instead.

  • Just wondering for those with devices like this whether multitasking is viable or not really advised?

Looking for a new device for uni/studies.

    • +1

Yes, it is great for multitasking in a general sense … but for a more specific answer, please ask in more detail. what apps?

I use the c302ca for browsing with 20-30 tabs, playing music, spreadsheet app and watching a video.

      • Cheers man. Just stuff like microsoft word, with chrome with researching and youtubing and maybe with a pdf (foxit reader app) open? Not sure if that would be too laggy or not?

        • would it be worth paying more and going for the m5 instead of m3 or nah?
        • +2

Yea, that would be easy. I was doing that every night. The 4gb RAM handles it fine.

Test the microsoft word android app on your android phone to make sure you are happy.

I did some spreadsheet testing of android apps and browser options …. and the most feature rich option seemed to be google sheets in a browser (not the android app version).

I wouldn't pay more for the m5 … but I would pay extra for the RAM though if that c302ca model with 8gb was available on amazon, but last I looked and it was only available in the UK (not that really had major issues with the RAM but it is always nice to have more than less). I had 32gb RAM on my desktop for web browser usage ;)

  • Hello all,
Just wondering if this would be any good for my younger brother as he is a technical Luddite and has just found the joys of MY android tablet, hes 58yo an ex mechanic so a delicate adjustment will always involve a hammer and a gas axe.
Could not find info it it had android.
    The price is right tho.
    any help appreciated.

I own a c302ca (paid about aud$650) and a pixelbook (paid about aud$1550) .. both purchased in the first week of release.

Apart from the obvious aspect ratio difference, when you pick them up they have a very similar feel & quality. The c302ca keyboard is better than the pixelbook (and even better than many of my thinkpads).

Basically you pay an extra $1000 for the pixelbook to have a m5 7th gen CPU vs m3 6th gen CPU and the 8gb of ram vs 4gb.

Android Apps working well on both .. at this stage, a bit more stable on the c302ca but I guess it has been on the market for longer, hence some extra bug fixing.

Performance is noticeably better on the pixelbook being slightly more responsive …. but I think most people wouldn't notice the marginal m3 vs m5 benefit.

Saw it pop up in my CCC alerts earlier tonight… Couldn't resist at this price.

  • Sorry to repost, as I'm looking to pay with my westpac debit mastercard, I'm worried this will incur a foreign transaction fee which might jack up the prics quite a bit? Does anyone know much about this? Never bought off amazon before.

    • +1

It has nothing to do with amazon specifically, but relates to making a payment in a foreign currency .. ie USD.

28degrees mastercard and bankwest platinum mastercard are two of the popular cards with no extra fees for foreign currency transactions.

Any purchase in a foreign currency has these charges with your card ….

      https://www.westpac.com.au/docs/pdf/pb/Debit_MasterCard_Tand…

      1. 3% of the $AUD transaction amount where a transaction
is made in foreign currency and the merchant or
financial institution accepting the card is located outside
of Australia (comprising of 2% Westpac Processing Fee
        plus 1% Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee);
      • Thanks a lot for your quick replies. I'm at the checkout page now and after entering my details it's coming up as $551 if I pay in AUD and if I pay with USD it's 404 USD. Should I go with the USD option or nah?

        • Generally better to pay in usd as amazons conversion is poor.

        • @wxyz234:
except he will get charged 3% with his westpac card .. only about $15 or so.

probably not much difference either way.

if you want to try and do the calc …
          https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/get-support/conver…

i think i would just pay amazon in AUD .. i would rather give the fees to amazon than westpac.

        • @matt-ozb: will get charged regardless as card processor is overseas.

        • @brisdaz:

Thanks for correcting. I have never owned such a bad card.

  • I like this deal! I have too many gadgets (iPads, macbook) and also a basic Acer Chromebook, so I'll pass. It's very good for browsing, google docs, videos/YouTube Hopefully my model will also get android apps. Superb deal.

  • How much of the 64gb space does the OS take up?

    • +1

I can't check on a fresh install but on my Pixelbook, I am using 7gb for chromeOS and 3gb for my Android apps.

  • could not resist, so I just ordered one. Thanks

  • @matt-ozb .. thanks very much for the advice, 1.2 kg is nothing …his sandwiches are heavier than that hahahahah.
But i will pull pin and buy and then in true OZB fashion ponder why I did it…lol

    • Haha … Na, this one is awesome. You'll love it. Apple quality about 30% of the Apple price!

    Out of stock

  • Hi all. I see it states there is stock on the page, however price is $429.99.
Is this still a fair price point? Really looking to get into the chromebook game and get rid of my MacBook.

one last question, what's the go with the power adapter purchasing from the US? Will I need to source a transformer for charger?
    Thank you in advance!

    • +1

Still seems like a good price to me at $430. Would the charger accept 100-240v and therefore just need a simple adapter for our plug pattern - maybe someone who has one from the US can answer.

      • Yeah seems like a great price.. Looks like I can still sell my MacBook for a relatively solid amount, which makes this so much more attractive.

Would love to hear from people using a US version of this laptop, and what they do with their power adapter!

        • +3

I'm living in the US presently, and have this Chromebook.

The adapter is 100-240v, so no problems there. I bought a little two-prong power adapter for when I return to Australia, so I can't foresee any problems.

        • @marlor: Cheers marlor!

I know its a silly question.. but you mean the two-prong power adapters that you can pick up pretty cheap from a JB/etc?

And.. would anyone know if torrent clients from the google play store such as uTorrent would work?

If so.. I'm sold on this!

        • +1

@leftyleft: I was picturing something like this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-Japan-JAP-USA-US-EU-Europe-to-… for $1 delivered. I already have a couple that came with things sent from China.

        • +1

          @leftyleft:

Yep. I think I got a six-pack of adapters for $5 on Amazon.

Just be aware that the bulkier three-prong adapters can be a bit of a hassle. The power cord on this Chromebook is a bit short, so you may want to plug into an extension lead from time to time. When I tested this with the three-prong AU/US adapters, the adapter was a bit too bulky to properly fit into the molding of the Australian extension lead I had on hand here.

So I just bought slimmer two-prong adapters. They’re a better fit.

I ordered one and it is on the way to Melbourne arriving December 12th. However I changed my mind. If any of you wants one at the original discounted price, you can buy it off me or I will return it to Amazon. Please PM if interested.

    • Hey lhou021,
Did you find a taker for this? If not, I'm keen. I can't PM you as I'm only a new user, sorry.

      • sorry sold, thanks for the interest.

        • Thanks anyway.
