Melbourne OzBargain Meetup & Gaming Night: Free T-Shirts & Food from 5:30PM Thursday (Nov 30) @ Pokéd (Bourke St. Melbourne)

2780

OzBargain is turning 11 years old and to celebrate we are having meetups all over the country.

Our Melbourne meetup will be at Pokéd @ 111 Bourke Street from 5:30PM Thursday and is a gaming night (Catan, Cards Against Humanity, Exploding Kittens, etc.). Thanks to Justin from Pokéd and Gameology for lending out his venue and his time.

  • Free food (likely Dominos pizza + Shanghai Dumplings + maybe something else).
  • $2 soft drinks sold via Pokéd.
  • Free OzBargain t-shirt (with womens shirts this time). Limited supply of 1 box, first come, first serve (maybe 30 mostly black shirts?).
  • Free Not a Bot virtual badge.

If you don't want to hang around or interact with anyone, that is fine. You can come in, write your username down (so I can give you a badge) and take a shirt/food. I will be giving the t-shirts out strictly from 5:30PM and no earlier.

If there are any suggestions for food or something else you think would be worthy (Entertainment Book Swap, group buy, whatever), please let me know.

For people in other locations, we need your feedback and/or confirmations.

If there are others who wish to help organise a meetup, please do some in the threads above or start your own.

    11 years. Congrats guys.

  • I'll be attending the Sydney one just because it says "free tshirt" and I can't say no to free stuff.

  • What size are the tshirts? Guessing male M-XXL… which means I won't bother fighting for one..?

    • +2

We have female and male t-shirts.

      • Orange Mens: 2 Small, 1 Large, 2 Extra Large, 2 XXL
      • Black Mens: 4 Small, 7 Medium, 10 Large, 5 Extra Large, 3 XXL
      • Black Womens: 4 Small, 4 Medium

My experience from previous Melbourne meetups is the most common size is medium and small.

      • +1

Yet on the internet they all claim that they are large and x-large?

      • I'm a large so it's good to see 10 black large shirts available :)

        • +2

need more xtra large due to Ozbargain 40-50% dominos in the last few months…

      • Will Black Friday fight for a ladies small then :)

  • +1

Don't forget to use your amex to get $10 off $20 spend at Nandos

  • Damn i wish there was one in Toowoomba

    • Feel free to organise one.

      • Dont think thered be enough people around here that are Ozb's. Ive never met another ozbargainer from toowoomba or i nearly would.

  • +1

    Any bikies going?

If only it were on a Friday. Oh well. :|

I would have posted earlier but I'm just perfecting my script to automatically create new users named broden00001, broden00002,…broden99999. Then I sell the 100,000 free t-shirts for $10 and I'm a millionaire. Oops, I've revealed my plan too soon

    Best deal ever.

  • Hey OP - do you have more than 30 shirts? 13 of us from work are planning to come there and we really want a shirt. Should we come line up early??

    • 44 shirts. Will give them out from exactly 5:30PM. There weren't any lines at previous meetups and hope the same here as I'm a one man operation.

      • +1

Neil, would you like a hand? I can be there 5pm and help you hand them out and be a lacky of some sort. :)

        • Thanks for the offer. Should be OK for now with myself and Justin however if we get OzBargained then we'll take up your offer. :)

  • +1

Any cashback rewards on the $2 soft drinks?

I can pay by amex card or Woolworths gift certificates?

  • Will still be overseas. Maybe next year haha..

  • how fast do the tshirts normally go?

    • Small & Medium go first. I brought home XL and bigger shirts at the last meetup.

      • can you save a small one for a PU?
        :P

      • XXL? ;)

  • +3

    No jv comment?

  • I'll have to pass on this one.
Bikies are probably waiting for me for buying up all the graphics card deals for mining purposes.

  • Will there be free soapy massages?

  • This seems interesting; will try to attend.

  • Happy Birthday OzBargain. I look fowrard to coming down to say hello.

  • +2

111 Bourke Street? OZB is turning 11? Illuminati confirmed

  • OMG i'm super excited and will def try to be there on the dot, work permitting.

  • HBD Ozb.. will still be overseas at the time of meetup, cya nxt time!

    • +5

This is a free event that is paid / sponsored by Ozbargain. There will be free food and depending on which meetup you'll go to, you'll get to see Scotty…

      • +1

You need to flex your muscles Mr Scrimshaw. We're all thinking it.

        • +2

          We're all thinking it.

          Except for one of us….

      • +1

Is Scotty or any of the mods flying to Hobart :) ?

        Cheers

        Varun

        • That would definitely kill our budget.

        • @neil:

Ha ha wont hold this against you. Hobart is an ignored capital anyways.

        • @neil: Not if you OzBargain it. $100 both ways.

    • RRP is sexual favours to one of the OzB crew. This is definitely easier on the knees…

  • +2

What a coincidence! I'm coming down to Melb (from Sydney) for an event this weekend! Happy to get the badge and some free food :)

  • -2

I can't believe i paid $5 for the last one.. mind you there were video games

  • Can I call prior to coming to place a shirt on hold?? :p

  • Looks like this is going to be full house tomorrow.

  • 111 bourke street as in Southern cross lane?

    • Yes.

  • +1

Thanks Neil, I'm in, it would be great to get a T-shirt!

  • funny. last year the catchup was also on a day that was flaming hot then started to storm like crazy

  • 👍

  • Too late now but you should have limited it to one shirt per person.

    • Are they all gone now?

    • I thought I gave 1 per person for the exception of some of the XXL sizes but yeah t-shirts were OzBargained very quickly. Next meetup will need to bring about 100 shirts.

      • Everyone seemed to be orderly from what I saw. Didn't see anyone greedy with the t-shirts unless they got lucky.
How many names (on the paper) did you get Neil?

        • +2

I left the notepad (and my pens!) at the venue (must have been packed away) so I'll let you know tomorrow as well as add the badges.

        • @neil: Any news on the notepad? =]

        • @KayDat:

Couldn't go on Friday due to the rain and they were closed on the weekend. Will work on getting it today either in physical or digital form.

      • you did well.
however i did see a female stash 2 shirts in her bag and another male got a shirt for his wife and for him.

        • -1

Well excuse me for letting my partner store his shirt in my bag (did you see him pass me the shirt and standing next to me the entire time we were there?). Sorry maybe I should have made him change into the ozbargain shirt straight away and stash his workclothes into my bag instead.

        • @Ozblady:
Female didn't appear to have a partner with them.

  • +2

Who wrote "me" as their username?

    • +9

      I did

      • +1

I have to say that was the funniest/best username on the list

        • Thanks :)

  • Just some feedback to the venue: The door is missing a "Pull" sticker, most people pushed the door to exit

    • Ha. Yes, I did this 3 times.

    • Thanks for the feedback! I'll get that fixed. We usually leave it open during trading hours so it hasn't really been a problem, but good pick up!

  • It was fun while it lasted but I was called away while Neil was still giving away t-shirts. Thanks anyway and maybe I'll see you all next year.

  • I'm still on my way.

  • Lol, I showed up the earliest and had to leave just as the place was getting packed. It was great to meet you Neil! Hope y'all are having a good time out there :)

  • +2

Majority of shirts were gone within 5 minutes. If you’re like me and missed out then order your own custom designed Ozbargain shirt from this deal by Degorilla

Grabbing a slice of pizza and getting the Not A Bot badge is good enough for me. Thanks for putting this together

  • I'm gutted I couldn't make it. For those who did, what did I miss? (aside from Pizza and T-Shirts disappearing fast)

    • Sure, must be a bot.

    • Dumplings went first. Then the Shirts, then the Pizza.

  • Great meeting this evening, had 2 slices of yummy pizzas. Unfortunately I had to leave early to prepare for thunderstorm safety at home. Keep yourself dry and keep safe!!

  • Thanks all for great night. Name tags next time would be awesome. Thanks for the t shirt. Loving it.

  • Dropped by with a friend about 15 minutes late and the place was packed. I think this deal was Ozbargained! Happy 11th Birthday, and thanks for running the event Neil, and may there be many more deals to come!

  • Thanks for putting on the night. Had a great time chatting and the pizza was tasty. Thanks to everyone who has posted bargains this year.

  • +8

Thanks for braving the heat for the meetup. Nice chatting with you all and playing some very odd card games.

    Stats:

    • 40 pizzas ordered, 38 pizzas eaten.
    • 205 dumplings ordered, all eaten.
    • 43 shirts given out within 5 minutes.
    • Everyone who stuck around got a fidget spinner.

Justin had some custom OzBargain, Poked and Gameology cupcakes made via Cupcake Central.

I think some people took some photos so if they have any please post up or PM to me.

    • Wish I was in Melbourne. Being in sleepy town of Hobart doesn't help much. Glad you all had fun.

    • Thank you neil and justin for this awesome meetup. Enjoyed fully and you took good care of vegetarians as well which is really appreciated :)
My son loved the spinner as orange is his fav color :P

i have got cupcake photo but cant figure out how to attach to this post :S

      • Glad you enjoyed it. If you go to My Account - Files, you can upload the picture there and then paste the link here. Or just use any other picture hosting service (e.g. imgur) and paste the link here.

    Thanks for organising.
Dumplings, pizza and tshirts for the lucky early arrivals.
    Everyone was friendly.

  • Thanks Neil for organising. Was great to meet you in person!
Managed to get an XL black t-shirt, thanks again for that :)
    Until next year!

  • Thanks Neil for hosting, OzBargain and Justin (Poked) for supporting the meet up. Very generous supply of pizzas too! I already earned my Not A Bot badge but a good chance to socialise with others.

  • Thanks neil, Gaemology and Poked! Also happy birthday OzB!

  • +2

OK, everyone should have a badge based on if you wrote your name on the notepad. I counted 66 on the list.

I can't find 3 2 1 user (see below) so if anyone has an idea what is written or who the user is, let me know in the comments.

    (1st solved)
    (2nd solved)
    (3rd solved)

    Update: Solved!

  • Aww dam, yet another meetup missed!
