[OzBargain 11th Birthday] Gold Coast Meetup (Can Include Brisbane Area)

Refer to scotty's original post for Ozbargain's Birthday Bash.

I am willing to organize a Gold Coast Birthday Party. I have organized various Couch Surfing meetups and BBQs before so familiar with how to get one organized.
I think a good place to start would be by confirming the following things:

  • Confirm date. A weekend (for example 25th November) would be ideal; if we have majority preferring a different date, we can work around that.
  • Confirm location. I am flexible with trying to organize an establishment and calling them to see if they can host X number of seats. Or a BBQ around Gold Coast beaches or Hinterlands. There's some good BBQ spots near Broadbeach or we can go to Currumbin/Burleigh Heads. Hinterlands would involve Lamington. Personally I would prefer a location which is easier to get to via public transport so nobody has any trouble reaching.
  • Show of hands for who are willing to attend.
  • Show of hands for anyone willing to volunteer and help me organize this party. I will need some folks to take on different aspects depending on what we are doing for the party.
  • Should we restrict the party to be 18+ ?
  • Is there enough vote to move the location towards Brisbane?

    Nope not over, let me pick a venue for next weekend (2nd); most likely a pub? Are GC folks OK with that? I'll update by later today.

    Sounds great! A bit too late to organise it for this weekend though… would next weekend work instead, if it's not too late to organise this? I'm in Surfers, so would appreciate it being somewhere near here if that's possible. I too agree public transport proximity is a good idea, to maximise the chance people can get there easily. May be able to help out too, but can't promise too much - my health can impact on my energy & reliability. PM me if you need a hand though, & I'll see what I can do.

    Pubs with cheap (ish) drinks + close to public transport (and towards Brissy) is Mill at Fortitude Valley, a minute's walk from the station. They have $8 beer. I am happy to come over to Surfers if need be, I stay in Ormeau so travel for either direction. I've got my office Christmas party (and then Mrs') for the next weekend though. Lets all finalize a venue and date and catch up for some drinks and bit of food.

    There's couple of good (cheapish) pubs near my place as well (Ormeau), but not really close to public transport.

    If there's enough folk in either side and they can't travel, we can have a GC meet up and a Brissy meetup :)

    If we were doing a BBQ, I would have needed some help distributing some of the work (two takes care of the bread+meat shopping+collecting funds, etc). For a pub drink, we can just rock up, have some beer, talk about Eneloops and head back home :)

    Here's the website for The Mill Thoughts? Are GC guys comfortable to attend this place?
    Its a minute's walk from Fortitude Valley station.

    If you guys want to play some board game, then we can go to Netherworld instead.

    GC-siders, if you guys have any recommendations for places around GC which is close to public transport, please feel free to suggest.

      There's a rooftop bar in Southport that opened up not too long ago "Mr P.P.'s". Our workplace checked out it's soft opening and it was pretty nice and chill. Tram stop is smack back in front of it (tram stop right next to GC TAFE).

        16th December confirmed from me, and from the looks of it, if we don't confirm a date and venue it will never happen. :\ It looks like we have bunch of folk interested, specially if its near Brisbane, so am hoping for the best. Else it will be me and some beer, sharing our stories :D
