'Long time not having good eneloop deals since DSE is gone'

Mmmyeah. I don't think ANY DEAL, ANYWHERE, will ever top that ZANY deal that Catch/DSE once ran where they effectively paid the buyer $5 to purchase 8-packs of AA or AAA eneloops. I suspect that maybe that deal alone might have been responsible for the ultimate demise of DSE… I couldn't quite believe the offer on the first day/just bought a couple of packs… then the order was confirmed/credit came through… needless to say in the heady days that followed, I ordered a GREAT MANY eneloops from DSE; as did many other OzBers!! LOL

      Ahh, the memories.

  • Made in Japan Ene's or the 'other'?

    • +2

I believe they are now made in china
Not able to find lots of Eneloop that made in Japan
since Sanyo sold eneloop to Panasonic

    • +1

i believe Panasonic or whoever only sell made in CN eneloop to AUS, but u can find plenty of similar priced made in JP ones or Fujitsu varieties on Amazon and sometime ebay.

Actually i haggled with the staff member called billy and he let me buy all stock :0

        • I think Billy used to run the Dick Smith website.

  • Looking for a deal on AA batteries only, don't need another charger.

    • Try Aldi LSD's, they are $5.99 for a 4 pack & work fine.

      • +1

Cool, didn't even know about these. Will give them a go, thanks!

        • 'Will give them a go, thanks!'

Yo Dream, don't do it. The Aldi ones are shite, as numerous posts on the net will confirm.

Much better off trying out the Ikea ones, as suggested by trev.

      Ikea LADDA is also good

  • Intrigued by the consistent enthusiasm displayed in OzB for Eneloops.

What do you guys use these rechargeable batteries for?

    Many remote controls?
But frankly; I can't imagine how these could be handy.
What stuff do you guys use these in?
    Please enlighten.

Maybe I could also join the bandwagon…

You obviously don't have children :D

      • Have; in pre-teens now.

        OK; so… battery using toys?

    • I use them for anything that uses AA batteries, kids toys mostly, remotes, Xbox controllers, cordless keyboards/mice, etc.

The rate my kids use them, buying Energizers would cost me a small fortune.

      • This guy recharges.

    • 'What do you guys use these rechargeable batteries for?'

      • My Kid's toys (Waaaay too many to itemise)
      • My toys (laser pointers, LED candles, cordless console-controllers, etc.)
      • Radios in places that it's best not to be running cords (bathroom)
      • Tools (cordless screwdrivers, stud-finders, etc.)
      • Cordless mice
      • Remotes of all descriptions
      • Wall-mounted clocks
      • A way cool Schick razor/shaver that vibrates very slightly, which seems to completely negate cuts to my face (I used to cut my face about 10% of the time before I got this razor… maybe I'm just 'unco')
      • Some kitchen appliances (scales etc.)
      • Torches

Those are the first ten types of things that sprang to mind in the first minute or two after reading your question. No doubt there are many more that will occur to me as I 'spot' them in my house in the next couple of days.

Maybe you prefer to plug everything electric into the wall Angry Monkey? I find that a bit restrictive (or just ugly-looking), particularly for things like shavers/groomers, clocks, radios, etc.

There has been a definite shift in the last 5 years or so to products coming with their own rechargeable lithium-ion battery 'built in/onboard', but in many cases this is far from ideal; for example, in cases where you might like to 'swap-in' some charged-up batteries when the ones in the device run flat (mid-shave/mid-surveying job/etc.).

  • Have; in pre-teens now.

    OK; so… battery using toys?

  • Smart charger, or dumb, charge slowly forever type?

    • From http://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Panasonic%20B…

"This charger do always need 12.5 hours before it says done, this makes me wonder why the instruction sheets list shorter charge times.
It is not a good idea to charge full or half depleted batteries on this charger, it is best to charge only empty batteries.
I do generally not like this type of charger, it is hard on the batteries, because it always overcharge, but it may charge old mostly worn out batteries."

      Sounds turd.

  • Are they made in China or made in Japan?
