Any Recommendations for a Gaming Chair?

Hi there, does anyone have a recommendation for a gaming chair?

there's a few businesses that sell them online but don't have a showroom or available for display to try out which is a bit disappointing.

I've tried both the base DXRacer, Cougar, and one of the Corsair brands at computer alliance. DXracer was ok for the price but not great.

The bathurst at officework is nice and soft but it's not fully adjustable and feels abit flimsy..

Any other recommendations from personal experience would be appreciated as well as if you know of any good deals right now :)

I used to buy computer chairs every month or so either because they would break, hurt my back big time or in my last officeworks's case it was on a lean, (I was legit at my computer leaning to the side for weeks lol) and i always went with typical big box stores however got an ad for a dxracer I would say 3-4 years ago and negotiated a lower price and got the chair the following day. It was a dxracer and it has been a gem ever since and still using to this day. I've had not one back problem, It sits straight and still looks fairly new, In fact it's so good im too 'scared' to upgrade to another chair.

That's my two cents however I've yet to try some other 'gaming chairs' but found officeworks to bring some truly horrific chairs out.

  • I'm desperately looking for a gaming chair aswell, I spend a lot of time on my chair and I've burned through a few $50 ones and $90 ones, they are all garbage and my back is starting to hurt which is scary because I'm still so young. I'm 6'4" so I'll have to try one of these $300+ DX Racer type chairs, hopefully they fit people my height. Need suggestions also.

It's expensive but if you are spending a lot of time sitting down I'd pay more and go for a herman miller aeron or mirra 2. Some people however don't like these chairs so it is still important to try them out first especially if you are spending that much money

    • Do they have a display room somewhere to test them out? Can't find much from googling them in Melbourne

      • Yeh the living edge stores should have them in their display rooms, I tried them out at the Richmond store. I'd look at a youtube video on how to adjust the chair beforehand so that you can get a good feel for it but there should be someone there who will show you how to make the adjustments.

  • Had a Officeworks Bathurst chair and had to throw it out because the fake leather started cracking and peeling, and the foam had gone all flat. Bought myself an AKRacing K7012 went for cloth instead of the fake leather as it won't crack and peel over time. It uses the same type of foam used in car seats so will hold it's shape, it's more adjustable and comes with lower back support cushion. Overall a really comfortable and well made chair.

    • How long have you had the AK chair for and how tall are you?

      • Had it for about a year. I'm 178cm and 75kgs. Plenty of room on my chair can easily fit someone bigger.

They've got sizing guide on their site to check out the specs.

I'd recommend buying the chair from their eBay store if it's listed as you can make an offer on it. Got mine for $270 instead of $299.

  • Been thru a couple of chairs place i use to buy stopped selling at the end looked for one at office works but looked cheaply made and not much adjustments to pay up to $200+.

At the end found a guy selling good condition ex office herman miller chairs on gumtree normally worth
$1000+ bought it for $150 they where virtually like new glad i didn't go buying it from office works.

  • I’ve had a few chairs here an there that have barely lasted a year or so, but recently i’ve invested in a Noblechairs EPIC Series and it’s been best decision ive ever made. They go for $450-500 but for me it was certainly worth it. Basically a bathurst officeworks on steroids

  • Steelcase Leap.

You can argue them down to a $1000 in Adelaide, presumably you can do the same in Melbourne.

    • Where in Adelaide? :)

  • Check out Secret Lab
    https://au.secretlab.co/

Best chair i ever bought, much better build quality than the DX and they make a chair for those of us who are not 5ft1 and 45KGS lol

    • Thanks for that. I did consider the Secret Lab but they don't a showroom or anywhere you can actually try it first… Which model did you buy though? and did you have any shipping/delivery issues? Thanks.

      • I got the titan :)
        Chair arrived in 2 days.
Was super easy to assemble. They give u a link to a video.
It’s been almost a year and it’s stil going strong :)

If you check their website they have gaming centres where u can go check out the chairs.

  • Heard those $5 chairs at bunnings are great

    • They are, we used black ones as replacement dinner table chairs for a few years. The original ones were twice the price and all had problems.

  • Ergoflex Mesh-

It’s a clone but I had this for about 5 years and it still looks and feels great, can vouch for the its comfort and build quality. Bit the bullet 5 years ago as I was sick of crappy chairs and never regretted it (wanted mesh for breathability). Although the price then was $450 on sale, it seems to have risen over the years. Just another option rather than the usual “bucket racer” seats. You can adjust this to your hearts content 👍🏻
