Bing Lee Says out of Stock

Followed this link https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/343237. Thanks to OP.

Ordered an iPad pro and Bing Lee says it's out of stock and processing a refund. I requested if they can provide one that is close to spec and they refused. I am highly sceptical that Bing Lee is doing this to fish people for their next 20% ebay sale.

Does anyone have similar experience so we can together blame Bing Lee?

Unless you have a source inside their warehouse, you can't really argue with "Out-of-Stock".

And no, you don't get a 'close-to-spec' product just because.

Yes that's exactly it, it's definitely not due to inventory count errors which almost every major retailer is guilty of.

Thanks. Retailers are good at this.

Can't believe you didn't see the sarcastic tone dripping from his comment

        • No, I didn't. So you believe Bing Lee is an honest retailer?

          @ohxyz:

Sure. They're all in the same league.

@ohxyz: can't believe you didn't see the sarcastic tone dripping from whooAh1979 comment either lol

        • @tomleonhart: Don't struggle. You already lost.

        • @tomleonhart: BTW, your website is broken.

@ohxyz: It's nothing about honesty, it's about literally the first rule of business: GET CASH IN HAND.

There's no way Bing Lee is offering you a refund as part of some nefarious plan.

        • @ohxyz: I would care if I still work there :P

        • @tomleonhart: Why not update your profile? Still memorising the affairs with your boss ; )

        • @ohxyz: can't be bothered to update :-(

        • @0blivion: I highly suspect. Refund is a just piece of program. Some companies in the world keep your fund for example, just one week's time, then they have the interest gain on top of your money. Consider when there are lot of buyers…

This user signed up to OZB because he believes they deliberately sold him something, and then have to refund it, all because they think it will entice him into a later sale?

Is he on drugs, or am I ?

Well, are you a seller as well?

      • +3

ohxyz, as a result of your Bing Lee experience are you MORE or LESS likely to shop with Bing Lee?

If its LESS (and you did come on here to bitch about them) then I am sure you can see this would be a dumb customer acquisition strategy, so its possible the answer might just be that they messed up with inventory levels. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Well, are you a seller as well?

It is not the point that if I would shop with Bing Lee or not. It is to make more people aware that they are running sales activities in this month. I was clearly told on the phone by people of Bing Lee. They said that they have 20% off on eBay to go for a shopping.

As in you ordered the 32GB but you are happy for the 128GB?

    • +1

I ordered 128GB which is out of stock. And they have removed the link.

      • That would be annoying.

    TONIGHT ON ENTITLEDBARGAIN…

One man ordered from Bing Lee and is getting a refund because they're out of stock…. what shall he do?

    • I made a promise to my boy to give him the iPad as a gift this week. You don't keep promise?

      • +5

Then just get one from somewhere else since a promise is a promise

          Thanks. I'm doing now.

@Savas: Ye.. A new lesson learnt.

The store is out of stock and they're giving you a refund which is the correct way of handling this situation. You're being unreasonable demanding for anything more.

Would you prefer them sit on their hands for a week processing only to tell you their out of stock and then sit in their hands for a further week while the refund is processed? It's how a lot of them do it.

        • +1

If they are a small business. I would say it is fine. But Bing Lee claimed to have 60 years in business. How are they not able to align the stock level with orders?

        • +1

@ohxyz: I agree, it would piss me off. they need to have a centralised system that can check how many they have.

        • +2

@Savas: No supply chain inventory system works perfectly: It's just not possible for something that's grounded in physical products. Examples:

          1. Just for warehoused products, they have 50 units, their system shows 50 units, and they sell 50 unitss within 30mins online - but on getting one unit for a customer, they find out that the packaging/box for another unit is dented/broken, and now they're on 49 units instead and they have to cancel one order.

          2. For products warehoused AND in store, they have 50 units, their system shows 50 units, but there's a customer in store taking one to the register. If 50 units get ordered online, by the time the order is processed (or even after), the customer is being rung up at the register and now there are only 49 units left to fulfill online orders, and one has to be cancelled.

I'm sure waiting for stock to arrive is an option. If that timeframe doesn't mesh with the timeframe of your promise though, that's not really on Bing Lee.

        • Yeah. The real reason why I'm upset is the timeframe.

        • @ohxyz: Fair enough. Don't let your reason be clouded by emotion. Yeah this sucks, but it's just bad luck for everyone - I'm sure Bing Lee would love to take your money if they could.

      • Don't make a promise, especially to kids, until you KNOW you can deliver on it.

Suppose you go to a surgery. The surgeon promised to cure you. After the surgery he said sorry, I wasn't able to make it and here is your refund.

      • +3

well you would take your money to another surgeon in hope for a cure, wouldn't you?
You wouldn't stop trying to find a cure.

        • Right. I'm doing it anyway. But again, the surgeon has 60 years experience and resourceful and you believed in him. But it turns out he disappointed you. At least for myself, I wouldn't be happy.

        • @ohxyz:
well you know that the surgeon had all good intentions in trying to find a cure for you, they tried their very best but failed.
The good thing is that the surgeon refunded you the money. some surgeons wouldn't do that - it would go towards the costs/resources and time they already whilst completing surgery on you.

        • +2

@ohxyz: Lol bad analogy, surgeon will never give you a refund no matter what.

        • @adr8: True. a bad one…

      • +1

In real life, that happens commonly and you don't get refunds. So… not the best analogy.

  • +1

It is annoying but a refund is how these guys all operate. I had the same issue with David Jones but you have to accept it. This will be in their T&C's.

However, if you are intent on having a similar item perhaps they can find the old model for you instead :)

    • : ) Shouldn't we have laws to enforce retailers to honor online deals? This is not like that you walking into a department store, and if you are told out of stock you can just walk away. It actually charges your credit card. If it is a big purchase and if it has just reached your credit card limit, then you can't make new purchases. You are losing the capacity for other purchases.

      • It is very different.
Have you ordered from Coles and then found out that they have run out of bananas? What did you expect them to do?

Mistakes happen, or are you perfect? (you don't seem it, no offence).

        • This is a sales season. If your money is not spent here, then it can be spent somewhere else.

        • +1

          @ohxyz:

It is already time to stop spending if you have maxed out your credit card.

        • @smashed: Then, this is another topic.

  • why not just buy direct from apple… you'd be annoyed if apple that sells only apples says sorry we ran out of apples, but here's an equivalent orange
