Great deal, just saw it on Reddit as was about to post it here :)

Got a pair of Carlos Santos delivered for about $310, which is pretty good compared with what's on offer locally.

    • Nice. Carlos Santos seem to be highly regarded and are a steal at that price. I think their own website has a sale section too.

Thanks for that, I should check out CS site.

What I really like is the option for custom patina, it's a longer wait but worth it IMO.

Glad that there are ozbargainers who appreciates quality made shoes.

I wish I was in a position to appreciate quality shoes on my feet. One day….

      • Keep the ones you have clean and polished in the meantime and you’ll be fine.

        • As well as using leather conditioner.

  • looks like all the shoes are sold out in the womens section :(

  • How do these compare to RM Williams/Baxter?

    • +1

well firstly you have to compare the RM to another Chelsea boot. Normally the English made chelseas are dressier than RM’s, which are more casual and in my opinion a little more versatile.

For quality comparison, I have a pair of Comfort Craftsmen and a pair of Crockett and Jones in a chukka style (Tetbury) so they’re at least both boots. I paid the same price for both. The C&J uses a nicer leather and is much more comfortable. The sole (dainite rubber) is more durable. However when it comes time for a resole it’ll cost me about $280 or 300 to send it to England through Double Monk in Melbourne or Sydney. CJ effectively turn it into a near new boot, but it’ll take longer than sending your RM’s back to RMWs. There’s no way I’d let one of the standard shoe shops here resole an English made shoe, nor my RMs.

So, short answer is if you want a chelsea, get an RMW for versatility and convenience of servicing. For comparitable quality from this site, a Sanders boot if they have one for probably half the price of an RM. Carlos Santos and AS will prob be better quality in leather and attention to detail. If you want a dressier work shoe, English made are the way to go (but not Church’s).

Baxter I’ve never seen or heard of unfortunately.

  • these are a steal if you're size uk 12/13

  • Unfortunately £10 for shipping of small items such as cedar shoe trees is not worth it

    • I personally think it is for the ones they have listed, at the price they have listed. Certainly better than the ones you can buy at DJs etc.

      • So shoe trees are not created equally? I saw some ebay ones for $20 delivered but am not sure if they work at all

It depends on the shape. Not all are going to be suited to all shoes. I think the ones advertised here are a pretty good, generic shape. They don’t have to extend into the toe box because most well made shoes have reinforced toeboxes. I think spring loaded with a solid heal block (like those listed) and a reasonable arch are best.
