365 Day Pre Paid Plans

Simple.

The available search sites fail to offer either an up to date or conclusive list of 365 day pre paid plans.
So I'm asking folks that I know who will know the best deal.
Particularly since Groupon screwed me over with the Amaysim deal, leaving me with a product that didn't work and finally when they replied, there was no option beyond a refund.

Also the usual SIM plus the 365 20GB datapack for a total of $100, if you don't call many people.

Because some people are uncomfortable not knowing if they'll run up a large bill without knowing? Because some people don't want to give the telco the required guarantee of payment in the form of a DD agreement or a credit card?

Besides the telcos make it easy to recharge online so it's possible to have little disruption.

Safety means different things to different people.

      Didn't neg you BTW.

I prefer prepaid for a number of reasons, including, but not limited to the following:

I don't always need my service. On prepaid, if it expires, some months I can go a week without recharging due to my being in wifi areas. Why would I pay for something I know I won't use?

I don't pay much at all for my prepaid, and I am yet to find a postpaid service for as little $ that includes everything I get on prepaid.

I have been overseas in the past with postpaid and was charged ridiculous amounts for data when I never actually used the phone. The phone located an international tower on arrival, I put in a local sim, and while the local sim was in, I was charged on my Australian postpaid account. Because it was postpaid, I couldn't argue much because I had agreed to their t+cs. I lost a bit of money for no reason. On prepaid, this could only happen up to the amount I have already committed. (If at all, I often travel on a prepaid that doesn't allow data roaming).

If a number or service is extra (ie 1300 numbers potentially), on prepaid it just won't work. On postpaid I will pay for it on top of my allowance, but won't realise until much later.

I can recharge quickly online or in stores if I have no credit left and need it. As stated prior, I am often in wifi areas or near a place I can buy credit, so it isn't hard to recharge if I need it urgently.

      (I also didn't neg you)

Besides the benefit of cost/usage control it also makes porting between carriers a breeze.

With postpaid some telcos pro-rate your last month, others require 30 days notice.

With prepaid I just switch when I want to switch knowing exactly how much I've paid and knowing that I won't be charged any more.

This has been particularly useful over the last 2 years as competition has ramped up hard. In the last 12 months I've ported my main number 5 or so times and I'm not even close to being the most scrooge like within the OzB community. :)

      (I also didn't neg you)

Many prepaid plans have unlimited calls & texts anyway. The only inconvenience would be running out of data. But it's easy to keep track of data usage, and topping up on data is quick & easy.

A true ozbargainer is a prepaid user. I make a profit from my mobile costs. Can't do that with post paid.

I used to be post paid many years ago, made the switch and never going back. Now I can't understand why people would be on post paid unless they can't afford the upfront purchase price of their phone.

I use prepaid because i am an Ozbargainer in the last few years i have not payed more than $5 a month with an average per month under $2.50.Try and do that on postpaid.

I do not have to try, I do that on postpaid for years now :)
      Here you are:

      Hey XXXXXXXX,

Please find attached your latest bill. We like to keep things simple at amaysim, so we only charge your nominated account or request bill payment when your bill reaches $10, or if 3 months have passed. Please check the attached bill to see your due date.

Don't forget, you can access your bill history anytime when you login to My amaysim.

LOL $10 for 3mths as opposed to $7.50. 66.6666666667 minutes of phone calls or 20 sms versus unlimited calls and sms.

Clearly many people prefer prepaid. Different plans exist because people have different needs and preferences. I never neg anyone who has different personal preferences, unless they are abusive (which I was not)… but hey, I get it, this is the Internet.

The prepaid failed and frustrated me twice in the past:

    1) some years back I bought a prepaid Telstra phone when my car broke in a remote area. A series of phone calls to NRMA, towing services, mechanics, etc. depleted the credit fast. I eventually topped up the credit, but being stuck in the middle of nowhere in full sun trying to read your credit card number and punch the right keys was not experience I want to repeat,

    2) similar experience overseas, also remote area - I will skip irrelevant details.

Most prepaid comes with unlimited calls for 28 days, and you can top up your data through a website (that isn't metered) not having to call

    • +4

That goes to show that other people have different situations, can't you see? You got once bitten and now you're twice shy.

A person who spends their life in a metro area wouldn't have your issues. Also these days calls and text to standard numbers are unlimited in all but the most basic plans so you won't run out.

These days you would buy a local SIM overseas and often they will have unlimited standard calls and text.

Why hasn't anyone mention Kogan Mobile? (with its 30-40% off)
    Am I missing something here?
I am looking to join them soon after my Vaya finishes.

  • For those that are curious…
I ended up going with Kogan 11gb unlimited 365 day deal, works out to $20.90 a month iirc.
Amaysim couldn't be bothered competing with Kogan when in chat.
Telstra were dismissive, arrogant pricks who state that they don't have to compete price wise, as no one would ever leave them after trying them as they've the best service.
