  • Rep: is there pickup for this item? I live in Sydney… =)

    • @tortise - Unfortunately there is no pick up available.

  • I'm assuming this is just a 'cheapy' but I'll ask anyway coz I'm a noob: Would this be better then the Netgear CGD24N that comes from Telstra?

Or would this just be a handy back-up?

Edit: Never mind. I really need to start paying more attention before I post.

  • Looks very similar to this one that ended yesterday on ebay (no bids):
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NetComm-NB504-Wireless-G-Router-/1206…

At least the postage is a little cheaper direct from the NetComm website…

    • It is the same one, and that is them trying to sell them on ebay(same contact number). They probably raised the shipping price to make up for paypal and ebay fees.

  • Could this be used as as a range extender (wireless repeater)for an existing network? Alternately could it be used to convert a wireless to wired connection (ie connect wireless to network and then use the LAN ports to connect to bluray, TV etc).

    • +1

The best option for this is the Tenda W311R for $28 from your local MSY store - http://www.msy.com.au/

It has a "Lazy" bridge mode, which will connect to your existing Wireless network and bridge the connection through it's LAN ports - just plug in your Blu-ray, TV, XBox etc.

      • Thanks
Our Samsung bluray and TV require a 'Samsung' wireless attachment that costs $80-$100. This is a much cheaper option.

Woudl the Tenda also work as a wireless repeater - ie extend the range of our existing network?

        • Yes, it should also work as a repeater - although I can't remember if it can do lazy-bridge at the same time as repeater mode !

You may find you have to buy a second unit to act as a repeater - and if you do this, you may as well dump your existing WiFi access point, and use the pair of Tenda units set up as a proper bridge.

  • Be aware it's a ROUTER, not a MODEM + ROUTER. There is another deal same place for a modem router but more expensive ($114)
