Have been looking for this Dyson model for a while, but best Australian online price is around $530 delivered and even more in stores (Aussie RRP $649 http://www.dyson.com.au/store/product.asp?product=DC24-ALLFL… - way above US ($399) or EU (UK £293.74) RRPs!).

These RRP differences are ridiculous me thinks, OzBargainers don't give up that easily and this must clearly be another case of getting that strong Aussie Dollar into action - so the hunt for a deal from overseas is on! But uuh, we're looking at postage of a relatively large 5.4 kg box here so let's see what we can do…

Amazon US & UK: great prices, but no AU delivery - d'oh! eBay ("worldwide" filter): $465 delivered from the UK - not bad! Other options - hard to find!

But then the lucky discovery I felt I had to share as my first OzBargain post: Being German, I check Amazon DE just in case and VOILA: postage to AU is available!

Price at checkout is automatically reduced by the German GST amount, 40 Euro International Express Shipping added makes it total EUR 281,37 = approx AUD 392 delivered - here we go!!

Hope that helps if you've been considering this Dyson model as well, pretty sure that's the best deal for Aussies out there at the moment so grab it while the dollar is strong and the Aussie retailers haven't succeeded in talking the government into lowering the $1000 GST free import threshold yet! :)

  • Any probs with voltage/plug conversion???

  • Voltage is the same and I use all my German devices (laptop, hard drives etc) here in AU without problems, all you need to get is a simple plug converter (I can recommend a model like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brand-New-Korjo-USA-EUR-JAP-AUS-NZ-Po… - cheaper ones do tend to drop out of the socket rather easily with the weight of the plug attached) - that should be it!

Navigating through the German checkout might be slightly tricky but if you shopped at Amazon US or UK before your address is stored and it shouldn't be an issue! Let me know if any translation services are required :)

Warranty is a different story though admittedly, but hey it's a Dyson and if there's really anything then there's at least more than $100 budget in savings for repairs if you get unlucky!

Good price & great research no doubt.. but obviously not going to fit our sockets without an adapter and you don't get your 24 mth warranty with it!

Luckily, out of warranty repairs with Dyson are very cheap and they will fully refurbish it while they have it. Supposedly the most expensive repair (motor) is only around $130~ and this includes courier pickup/return.

Me personally, I would still haggle at local stores to try and get it for somewhere around $500, which should be entirely possible with Christmas sales now.

Bing Lee are doing it for $589 (negotiable) and if you spend over $500 you get a $50 voucher. eBay AU has it for around $530 delivered (as you mentioned).

I'll give a positive just for effort here, though I rather buy one here (for warranty purposes). I believe the DC24 together with the DC29 usually go on sale here in Oz @ the Good Guys for $399 when they have their super sales.

In fact, I think there was a posting on Ozbargain with someone getting a DC29 for $369 bucks.

  • Whats so good about a Dyson?

you obviously have never owned a Dyson…. they are an awesome machine. I have a 'ball dyson' (the big one), and its the best vac we've ever owned- easily. we have inside pets and no other vac has cleaned like this bad boy. it gets so much dust and crap out of even 'clean' carpets. we were so impressed we took it over to a friends house because they were like you- non believers. they now own a dyson too :).

        • haha, that's sad.. the same thing happened to me. Took it around there, and for the next few months they asked if they could borrow it. Then ended up buying one ;)

      • I have tried quite a few but once you start using Dyson you wouldn't say so. In the end it is better value for money.

According to their press the big deal is they don't use filters to separate the dust and stuff (except the HEPA filter for the extremely fine asthma causing stuff). If you've used other bagless vacuums you know cleaning those dust filters is a real pain, they never seem to work quite as good as they did the first time, and they don't last too long. Never had a Dyson - I'm a bit worried about this ones small canister, .8L does not sounds like much.

    • I bought the DC08 about 5 years ago, and it's still great. Unless you are using a Kirby or something industrial to vacuum your carpet, you will be amazed at how much crap gets picked up.

If you have only tiles, you could probably go for something cheaper.

    • It's one of those things you need to experience for yourself.

For me I was always skeptical about $600+ for a vacuum cleaner, but then I got a dog who lives indoors and the el cheapo vacuum couldn't deal with the pet hair in the carpet. Picked up the DC23 Turbine and with just one pass, it sucked up the pet hair and more dust than I could imagine being in my carpets.

Also, I can really appreciate the engineering that goes in to it. Could say it's a bloke's vacuum cleaner!

  • I would add a caveat to overseas purchase of these. I have a dc23 (bought in Australia) and part of the hose broke. Called up Dyson and they're sending out a new one. Easy peasy. Not so much for overseas purchases where warranty would be an issue

i remember buying the dc14 model from Bing Lee 2years ago for about $286. rrp was $699

but i must say dysons are so much better.. you'd be amazed.. my one is still going great guns!

  • i bought this little vacuum about 9 months ago from harveys, in a dyson sale for around $475 which was a good deal at the time.

have to say for my apartment it is perfect. we have a cat and keep the place very clean. it was amazing how much it picked up the first time i went around, especially considering i had another cheap vacuum that i used all the time. i had to empty the bin 3 times the first day i used it, and the bin was really really full each time. after that, i can go around our place a few times a week and easily get half a bin, a full bin if im a bit lazy and leave it a few weeks, and even more.

easy to clean, size is great. might not be suitable for a big place as the bin will need to be emptied more times, but really it's amazing how well this little unit works. and you might think it's not sucking very hard when you start pushing it around, but the way the carpets look afterwards and the amount of dust, hair, crap that is picked up. i would definitely recommend this for the price offered.

my only doubt would be the warranty, although i think dyson has international if you register the card details, so who knows, something i can't elaborate on sorry.

  • Great research mate, been quite interested in one of these bad boys for a while as I've used el cheapo $80 vacuums all my life, but the price has so far scared me off.

Can't understand a word on amazon.de, I'm gonna install a translating extension and then have another look at it.

      • Cheers mate I appreciate it.

  • I have this model but do not have carpet, it has a UK plug on it and I just use an adapter. Works fine but I have no use as these are very heavy and I now have wooden floor boards. If anyone is willing to pay the shipping you are welcome to make an offer. These are big and heavy!

I'll check back later. Or your welcome to PM me on here if thats possible.

    • Hi,

I am interested, perhaps we can talk offline? You don't have your account set up so I can't PM you, but you can go to my profile and email me.

      • Sorry just got back from work. It should be ok to PM me now, otherwise just let me know your email and I'll contact you tomorrow with pix.

  • Gotta say I'm loving my DC31 with Motorhead. It's like a hybrid between a powertool and a vaccum. It looks like a weapon from Quake 3 and picks up an unbelievable amount of fluff and dirt from what looks to be pretty clean carpet.

Could someone please explain to me the Dyson range? I find the variety all a bit confusing and the price differences between subtypes of models is quite alarming, and I'm not sure what all the differences are.

For example, the upright DC14 (http://www.binglee.com.au/dyson-dc14-carpet-upright-vacuum-c…) for $389 from Bing Lee seems like a bargain, but am I missing something? Are the standalone vacuums better? What model do most people use for home use?

  • Could someone please tell if it could use for wooden floor boards. Many thanks !

  • BTW if you are having trouble with the german language you can try opening one page on amazon.com and one on amazon.de and work out what is what.

Ordered it last weekend, arrived this morning 9:40am in Sydney CBD - that's only 3 business days wait for an item from Germany, very impressive!!

    • How much did you end up paying overall?

      • Just checked - exactly $391 were deducted from my NAB Gold Bankount account (no exchange rate fees with the Gold Banking Visa debit card, just like the Wizard Clear Advantage credit card).
