Aldi has a 11.6 inch screen touch notebook coming up next week for $249- does anyone have any experience with these? I am looking for something cheap for my 9 yr old to do some word-processing (journaling, story writing etc ) but obviously it will be used in other ways over time. Any recommendations?
Thanks

Would it be any good for streaming video from the web to a tv? (via chromecast or similar)
It does have dual band wifi (probably Wifi AC) but no information on CPU. I assume it's cherry trail and if true it would support streaming fine.
With Chromecast, the actual processing / decoding is done by the Chromecast itself — it fetches the media from online source (e.g google play or Youtube and plays it locally on the device), which makes the specifications of your controlling device irrelevant.
its a z-8350 so yeah a cherry….
For streaming, this may be an option?
RAMs a little lite on:https://www.zapals.com/morefine-mbox-windows-10-mini-pc-inte…
Second scrimshaw: Aldi has a pretty good return policy so long as you keep the packaging and don't destroy the device. And for that price, obviously don't have too high expectations but it's also not a huge investment.
I assume it would be MEDION AKOYA E2228T which has Atom x5-Z8350? On Medion's website it only has 2GB RAM so might be the old configuration? I think it's a good buy if it has 4GB RAM — $249 puts it in Chinese tablet price range with Australian stock & warranty + Aldi's return policy.
The Medion trademark is reserved for Aldi's better quality range with longer warranty. At this price, it is unlikely be that exact unit.
But looks same, both with 360° degree rotatable keyboard. So probably out of same factory.
That model was released by Aldi in Australia under the Merion brand early this year. Whirlpool. Saw 1 today at local Aldi for $299. Definitely 2GB, Office 365, 2 year warranty, etc as per your link.
The description of the MEDION AKOYA E2228T says it has a "multicardreader for microSD-memorycards". Any idea if there is a limit on the capacity of microSD car it will accept? 256 GB cards are fairly common now.
Merged from Seeking Advice on ALDI Notebook Please
Can any tech experts please share their wealth of knowledge with me?! I'm looking at replacing my very old & slow personal laptop with this one from Aldi: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-22-…
As it is I rarely use my laptop but am about to start a new job & may not have such "free" use of the Internet at my new work! I don't even have Broadband at home - I just use my mobile phone when I need wi-fi for my laptop.
Questions:
Is a notebook the same as a laptop?
How do the specs of this notebook look?
Will this notebook be able to hold all my photos, my iTunes library, back-up my iPhone, & a little Internet browsing? Many thanks.
It only has 32GB of storage, so it won't hold alot. Think of it as a phone with 32GB of storage, that thing is basically a tablet with keyboard.
I think this offer could be posted as a deal. Shall I oblige?
I think this would be ideal for a 9 yr old for the sort of applications you mentioned. It would also be good for reading comics and playing some older games, particularly the edutainment titles. Also would be good for surfing the web and watching streaming tv if the screen is decent - certainly the processor is capable of these sorts of tasks.
It may also be worth considering this for an additional $69.20 inc Delivery ($319.20)
-The N3710 benchs 32.1% higher than the X5-X8350
- 128GB SSDThe unit comes with 1 year warranty
Option to bump the Dell factory warranty to 2yrs for $32 or 3 yrs for $56.The downsides include not avilable in black and the display
Refurbished lower spec models are more expensive on the DELL DFO.
Interesting one.. The Aldi unit still has better screen (Full HD IPS), and its also a touchscreen. Some may say you wont notice much differences btw HD & FHD on a small 11.6", but you do..
This Dell unit has a 1366x768 display and I'm not sure if its IPS.. but most likely TNDells lower spec units tend to have average displays traditionally.
I can see internal storage limiting the effectiveness of the Aldo unit for some.Yeap thats true… 32GB only
Does anyone know if Windows 10 now allows ALL apps to be moved to sdcard/usb drive?
And pagefile/swapfile also?So is this a typo?
320GB Storage & 4GB RAM
They have updated the link and removed that line :(
If anyone ended up purchasing one of these, I am in need of help. When I try to flip it into tablet mode it turns the screen off once it goes flat. Tried changing settings in windows but no go.
I changed a setting in the bios which I thought might fix it but now everytime I restart the screen is off. I can get it to turn on by opening and closing it again but I cannot see anything during the boot menu.
I have tried searching for a bios guide but nothing on the net so far. I need to see what buttons to press to change the setting in bios again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Maybe it's doing the same as when you close the lid ie there is probably a magnet in the lid/base that's telling it the screen is closed even when it's in tablet mode.
Maybe have a look at power saving settings ie turn off when lid closed, change that setting
It's definitely windows based as when I was in the bios looking for a possible solution I flipped it all the way and the screen didn't turn off. I have used every setting in windows with power and what to do when kid closed but nothing makes a difference.
For $250 it's worth a shot. You can return to Aldi no questions asked if you find the performance of the laptop poor.
It really won't do much apart from surf the web and run Office applications (and tacking small size documents) and 32GB of EMMC storage will also mean you can't install many programs on it. Gaming also out of the question.
