Suggestion on a Decent CCTV Camera System

Hi All,

I want to get installed CCTV camera system around my single story house. Need recommendation on any good system.

Open to any advice for a system which covers below requirements:
Main requirement is to monitor exterior areas. Already have BOSCH alarm system installed inside home. May be we install one CCTV camera inside as well.
Would be good to monitor on mobile if possible. Want to monitor via internet while in office or while I am out.
Should be cost effective system. Don't want to spend heaps. If this requires wireless then I could consider
Reliability is very important
House would need at least 4 cameras

Based on above requirements, could you please provide any recommended options and a suggestion if it would be good to buy a system and get it installed or ask someone to supply and install the system.

Please share how much did you pay to get it installed,

Thanks,
Regards

  • Hikvision are popular, mate of mine purchased from this company and installed himself. Very happy with his setup, some 4 camera kits below:

    • I am also keen on this one. Which lens kit should I look at for the internal CCTVs to the house? say the lounge, living room and family area. Thanks

    • Ubiquiti https://www.ubnt.com/unifi-video/unifi-video-camera-g3/

      $200 per camera @ 1080p isn't cost effective.

      • Cost effective is a very subjective, your opinion is that it is not, my opinion is that it is the best bang for buck mid-range product on the market.

It works great over the internet, on mobile, it's easy, Ubiquiti is high quality, it ticks a lot of the boxes.

        • it's rather expensive for 2mp.

CLoSeR suggested hikvision. i suggested swann (rebadged dahua). both are ranked high in the security/video surveillance industry.

Ubiquiti doesn't make on the top ten list. they have a long way to go before they can join the ranks of hikvision and dahua. it's not to say that they don't make good wifi routers.

        • the UVC-G3-AF datasheet state that its outdoor weather resistant, but doesn't list the ip rating. so it's safe to assume that it doesn't have an ip rating. any outdoor cameras should at least be rated ip67.

HIKVISION. Get a NVR along with it.

      costing $1400

      Is it good deal?

      • are they a registered cabler with a current vic security licence?

        • Yes they are, I have already confirmed.

        • how many channels is the nvr?

        • 4 Ch 4K Smart NVR

        • @Niceguy14:

          4 Ch 4K Smart NVR

hmm. you need at least a 8ch nvr for future upgrades. we have a 8ch, but are looking for a 16ch to cover all exterior windows, doors, driveway, front yard, backyard, sides, carport, garage, and then there is interior.

        • Does that mean each channel is used by each camera?

        • @Niceguy14:
each camera needs a channel. if you buy 4ch nvr, then you have to buy a new nvr if you add more cameras in the future.

        • @whooah1979:
Agree with you 4ch will not cut it. Minimum should be 8ch in case of future upgrades.
I suggest you invest most of your money towards the NVR. Your choice of NVR is very very important. Pay very close attention to the specs and make sure you understand them.
Here is a very good explanation about NVR and what you should look out for
          https://www.security-camera-warehouse.com/knowledge-base/nvr…
You should ask the seller the model and spec of the NVR and determine if it can really support 4MP cam max out on all channels.
