The MDR100ABN headphones are a good price at $200 if you can stomach the colours, red and pink. Only time they've been this price previously was a hard to find, instore only deal.

  Most HTiaB are hit or miss. Very subjective to what the listener considers 'good', unlike TV's which are Generally the same with performance +/- depending on price. If it were me I would go and listen to any sound system like that before I bought unless it were 1.Absurdly cheap 2.Universally approved.

  I bought this this time around to replace a Samsung HTIB package (HT-E6750W) that I received a cash refund for after 5 years of use due to a faulty button on the unit (hats off to Samsung customer service).
  
  I haven’t listened to this particular unit, but generally most of these are insanely good value for money if this is the limit of your budget. They are a massive step up from TV speakers (still far from great if you compare it to a proper setup) and you get surround (with wireless rears too).
  
  There appear to been no new units released on the market by any brands in recent years with sound bars becoming the trend. This particular unit is several years old and only seem to appear for sale on Sony’s website during their ~quarterly sales events at this same price point. I wouldn’t expect to see it any cheaper. I stacked it with the AMEX offer and Cash Rewards for another $40 off.

    I was wondering if it would be worth it to wait and pay extra for a high quality sound bar because I am a bit limited on space at the moment but I hope that will change. I just don't want to fork out $600 and for it to be a waste with new far more advanced technology and 'better sounding' units to come out.
    
    I have been looking at this new Sony sound-bar released in the states and UK called the HT-ST5000. It is very expensive but looks quite amazing and is suppose to sound very nice. I have also been contemplating other brands instead of Sony but I always find Sony products to be of high build quality and last a while.

      There is no more “advanced technology” going into sound bars vs these units. Actually the old Samsung HTIB I had sounded better than most sound bars I ever listened to in stores.
      
      Look up opinions on sound bars in general - you won’t find anything good (besides that they may physically fit into people’s lives better)

      @fowlli14: I have received it and it sounds great. Also does 4k and is a Bluray player if you ever watch them (I don't).
      
      To me the main thing to me is HDMI ARC and CEC which most solutions in the last 5 years will do.
      
      I'm sure it'll go on sale again in the next 3 months.

  Looks like the difference is refresh rate(60hz vs 120hz) and lcd type(IPS vs VA)

Do Sony do sales like this semi regularly? I saw they had an Xmas sale last year too…

Interested in picking up 2x wireless speakers (SRS ZR7), good value at about 200ish each, but crazy to pay 450 each for them!
