Love waking up to forumninja and and Amex offer

  • There is Hertz offer as well spend $200 here $50 back

  • thanks

  • Amex really wants us to spend money. So many offers to keep up to date with. Hard to keep up!

Wake up to coffee and another offer to enrol!

  • I signed up a supplementary card on my account last week (velocity platinum) activated on the weekend and made a couple of purchases with it. Can’t see any offers in the account though. Any tips? Does it take time once activated for offers to shop up or do only certain offers/certain cards work on supplementary?

      Use manual link instead

      • :O worked perfectly! Thanks so much!!

Does anyone know if Harris scarf sell non Harris scarf giftcards?

    • This would be nice to know as well

    • I checked about 18 months ago and they only had their own gift cards.

    • +3

They do. I just came from the Geelong store and saw $50 and $100 VISA Prepaid gift cards. As well as Village, Rebel, Hoyts, Apple and the normal Harris Scarfe ones.

The Visa Prepaid one costs $5.95 to get so should be taken into consideration when buying this.

I'll go later this afternoon to see how they react to my buying 2 x $100 and 1 x $50 VISA prepaid gift card in one transaction via my four Amex cards.

Going to be interesting to try. Worst case I'll just take a $5.95 hit per card and get 4 x $100 ones then transfer the cash to my DraftStars account to cash it out. [Yes, it works with Visa Prepaid].

Alternatively I could get a $100 GC and a $20 iTunes voucher and pay the $5.95 GC fee (x2 sets as I have 4 registered Amex). Still working out the best balance to max my benefit. Having a sale that finishes today does not hurt either. :-)

      • Oooh that's interesting. I hope my local HS has this too, I'll be going nuts on the iTunes (I assume this is what you meant by "Apple"?) and Village cards :) Can never have enough iTunes GCs to load into iTunes to fund Netflix, or Village GCs to use with Telstra Thanks for the movies :)

      • Just went in and got a $100 Visa Prepaid GC and a $20 iTunes card. I was NOT charged the $5.95 fee. (Put across two cards).

I went back and got another 2 x $100 Visa Prepaid GC and was also not charged. (Put across two cards).

Got emails for all four transactions from Amex.

FYI, when the ladies commented that I was not charged $5.95 for the Gift Card, even though it says a $5.95 fee will be charged, another lady said that was ok and that the system said it was $0 and so allowed the process to go through.

With this in mind, I would not bother getting any other sort of Gift Card and instead only get a $100 Visa Prepaid one assuming it is still fee free.

Thanks for the updates Daniel, much appreciate by all in the OzB community :)

Thanks for this information! I might swing by the Top Ryde store tomorrow; will report my findings

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Will wait for your report. Thanks for the field work kerfuffle

        • +3

@kerfuffle: Mate just went to the Geelong HS and got 2 x $100 VISA prepaid cards with no $5.95 fee today. Hopefully this will be a nation wide thing.

        • @danielh: Will try the same this arvo and report back too. Cheers

        • @danielh: I'm more interested in the iTunes cards myself but will advise what's on offer at Top Ryde

        • +1

@kerfuffle: Yeah but if you get the $100 Visa Prepaid gift card, you get the option to buy the iTunes card at another place when there may be a deal like the odd HN buy $20 get $20 free iTunes card deal that they used to have or those odd Woolworth 10-20% off deals.

        • @danielh: Very true, but kinda need the iTunes credit now haha

Plus I'd rather use my AMEX at Woolies where I get three points per dollar ;)

        • +1

@kerfuffle: iTunes cards are 20% off at Costco unto 26 Nov.

        • @danielh: Hmm. I could pop by Costco later this week 🤔

        • +1

@kerfuffle: AFTER you get the $100 Prepaid VISA gift card from HS. :-)

Edit: or go to Coles for the 15% off App Store and iTunes card deal I just saw. Excludes $20 cards though.

        • Hey Daniel, just wondering whereabouts in the store you found these gift cards? I went yesterday to my local store (Cranbourne VIC) and all I saw was a small stand with HS gift cards, close to the register. Do I have to go towards the back of the store or something?

        • @MathNerd: They should be at the register. That's where I found the non-Harris Scarfe ones when I was at Top Ryde. The Harris Scarfe ones were at the top and the non-HS ones under them

        • +1

@kerfuffle: Ah, I see. Thanks for that info, I'll go there to the store again and have a harder look this time. Cheers again kerfuffle!

        • @MathNerd: It took me a while to find them too; don't worry!

        • +2

@kerfuffle: Haha, the ever-confusing adventure of the professional OzBargainer looking for giftcards to spend AmEx offers on ;)

Reporting live from Harris Scarfe Top Ryde!

Here are the gift cards you can buy that aren't Harris Scarfe:

        • Event
        • Hoyts
        • JB Hi-Fi
        • Rebel
        • BCF
        • Supercheap Auto
        • Jetstar
        • Virgin
        • Flight Centre
        • Red Balloon
        • EB Games
        • Best Restaurants
        • Best Spas (this exists?)
        • Ultimate Kids

Hope this helps those who can get to Top Ryde! (This is the first time I've ever been to Top Ryde and pretty sure it will be last time haha)

Edit: Purchased a $50 eftpos Gift Card which normally has a $5.95 activation fee and a $20 iTunes card. Got charged $70 and got the qualifying e-mail instantly 👍

        • +1

          Thanks for your hard work!

Do you know what the denominations of the Visa cards are?

        • +1

          @Hogg: I think it was $50 and $100

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Thanks. That's a bit annoying to try and get to $60 with those gift cards.

        • +1

@Hogg: Yeah hence why I thew in a $20 iTunes card

Or you could always buy dinnerware or something to make up the last $10

        • Hey kerfuffle, just wondering whereabouts in the store you found these gift cards? I went yesterday to my local store (Cranbourne VIC) and all I saw was a small stand with HS gift cards, close to the register. Do I have to go towards the back of the store or something?

        • +1

@Hogg: that’s the beauty of the no fee prepaid Visa gift card. You can buy a $100 one knowing that you go above $60 for the Amex deal and then cash it out in your CrownBet or Draftstars or whatever account. You are not ‘losing’ money by purchasing a higher denomination.

        • [@danielh]

Good point. I forgot that the activation fee was waived.

        • +1

Same selection at Southland Vic. Just bought Visa gift card for $100. Probably use it to purchase Woolworths gift card to save another $5.00. or if someone wants to buy EB games gf, they have $40 and a $20.

        • @MathNerd:

I asked the cranbourne store about non hs gc. Apparently they are supposed to get them soon too. They didnt know when though.

        • @ChaseTheSun: did you call up or went in store? I was in store last night and same story, I was so excited to get gift cards :(

        • @MathNerd:
In store. Only HS giftcards atm.

        • @ChaseTheSun: ah so nice to see another OzB come down to Cranbourne, I thought I was the only one in this side of the woods :p
Yeah the rack of GCs right next to the sales counter has only HS GCs. I even asked the girl behind the counter and she said to go to woolies or coles for the GCs we are looking for.

Where will you go to get the other cards? Fountain gate HS is the closest I think

        • @MathNerd:

Yup. Fountain gate otherwise southland. Let us know if u find anything.

        • @ChaseTheSun: yup I'll head to FG one of these days and truly my luck :)

        • @MathNerd: keep us posted :)

        • @ChaseTheSun: Sure will. I hope I can go before the Melbourne meetup :)

        • @MathNerd: will post likewise if i find another shop closer to home.

        • @ChaseTheSun: Thanks mate. Which area of the South East do you hail from?

        • [@MathNerd](/comment/5345785/Just redir): Cranny West

        • @ChaseTheSun: Wow, I'm in Cranny central. Know of any other OzB'ers around our area? So far you're the only one I've come across.

        • +1

@MathNerd: nope. But im sure there are others around!

        • Just confirmed that the Geelong Harris Scarfe still have the full range of Gift cards so I'm assuming that this was just a local anomaly as opposed to the Head Office telling staff to remove them.

        • @danielh: thanks Daniel for your leg work on this :)

        • just went to HS Spencer St Melb, and got charged for $5.95..

        • @MathNerd: fyi.
Got the gc at southland. I got charged the card fees but still managed to split payments whereas my partner couldnt split payment but didnt get charged the fee.

        • @ChaseTheSun: damn so they've caught on to the fact their systems weren't charging he fee :'(

        • @MathNerd: yeah depends on who is serving u.

        • @ChaseTheSun: Ah, so it's a manual process then, to add the $5.95 fee?

        • @MathNerd: yep its not automatic. I saw them scan the gc n then add the fee after.

        • @ChaseTheSun: Ah fair enough. So the stores/employees must've got notification from Head Office/Managers to do this, as they would've noticed a surge of Visa GC purchases. How many AmEx cards did you do the split using?

        • @MathNerd: 3 cards

        • @danielh: how to cash out in Crownbet? U need to bet and win for withdrawing?

        • @nalumi5: Just do a normal withdrawal from CrownBet to your nominated account. I usually do that when I have won a few $100 and want to clear it back to just a small amount.
I did not notice any strange rules about needing to bet first which would be strange and counter productive for them unless it is a specific. Bonus bet which is not considered cash in your account anyway.

  • Messina is in NSW only.

    • Not true, shows VIC in my Amex app too, thought admittedly I remember they used to only take cash?

    • Hmm. Is it not valid in Melbourne and Queensland locations? Terms and Conditions state Australian locations only. But they only list Sydney stores in where to redeem. I guess just need to try to find out.

      • +1

I based my statement on them only listing the NSW stores on the website. Also I also remember the Fitzroy location only accepting cash.
Edit: I allowed the website to track my location and now the VIC stores are showing. Sorry!

        • +1

Yeah, whoever designed the site is an idiot. I never let them track me as a matter of habit, and it only showed me NSW sites as well. Seriously dumb.

      • it says valid for the south brisbane store from my account, so yes it is valid in QLD.

  • huh ??

    HARRIS SCARFE taking Amex ??

I tried to use at Shellharbour HS and was advised that they don't take that card.

    • When was that?

        quick search
        http://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/customer-service/laybys-payme…

states Amex - mmmm - i got SERVED by someone whom didn't know ! oh well next time..and i'll use this deal.

        • I think they're confused too - I did the same search you did and found that page, but also on the general FAQ page they write this:

Can I pay with a credit card?

Yes, we accept payments online with the following credit or debit cards: Visa, MasterCard and Harris Scarfe credit cards.

        • @buckster:

Brisbane Chermside accepts Amex instore which this promotion applies to.

          Online is another matter.

If you are refused instore just ring Amex and they will give a goodwill credit for the $20.

    • Harris Scarfe in Geelong recently updated to allow Amex about three weeks ago according to the staff member I spoke to earlier this week. I was surprised as well.

  • Wonder if paying through Messina's app is eligible

    • Probably not, I think it goes through a third party payment processor which is excluded from the offer.

EDIT: Just checked one of my previous app spends and yes, it goes through "The Aston Club" so it won't work with the offer.

  • +4

The multi brand offer includes Menulog, which is nice. $75 worth of food for $50 is tempting, and you can spread the $75 amongst multiple transactions!

  • DigiDirect is maxed up already.

    • Yeah, that was extremely quick. The offer wasn't as good as well, and only 5,000 cards. Maybe people who intended on getting serious camera gear saved the offer so they get to save even if just a little?

      • Considering cashbacks are 150-300, a little is quite a bit, especially if you're stacking cards.

  • +1

Thanks! It's good to have an Amex :)

  • Does Best&Less even accept Amex? The one at Westfield Marion doesn't :-/

    • That was a good offer for us

Saved it on all my cards

      • Saved it on all my cards

        • Saved it on all 30 of my cards

Here, I fixed it for you, you can thank me later.

  • Best&Less limit reached.

Unfortunately, the maximum number of Card Members have already enrolled in this offer.

  • Messina limit reached.

  • +2

Got an email at 10am & no offers left!

  • [edit] Redundant comment. 😄

  • Missed the Best for Less offer :(

    • I went to the Liverpool store today for the first time in ages to take advantage of the offer. Dunno how anyone manages to buy underwear in there; what a mess!

      • h ah ha. are they cheap and good quality undies? gosh i miss this deal. i need some new ones… any others good buy?

        • They certainly were cheap (managed to find a four pack of undies that were selling for $1 so I ended up having to grab more stuff to reach the $25 threshold) but dunno about good quality! (They weren't for me.)
