Q&Q SmileSolar Series watches - $28.50 Delivered (were $59.99) - Citizen Watches Australia Outlet Store @ eBay

P5OZZIE

At Castle PJC the servants unfailingly awake 40 minutes before dawn without horological assistance due to something more effective named fear. Tardiness results in vigorous thrashings which they prefer, as Christmas looms, to compulsorily demonstrating appreciation while tone-deaf Uncle Cuthbert the Viscount treats the ingrates to carols on his harpsichord. Assuredly, servants (and especially droit du seigneur) enhance one's lifestyle far more than wrist-worn timepieces but inexplicably, some people persist in the latter's usage … hence this post.

Review:

Q&Q is a subsidiary of Citizen Watches who has had vast experience manufacturing Solar powered watches since the early 1970s and uses Citizen’s eco-drive movement, (solar powered and made in Japan) Citizen eco-drive movement beats conventional quartz movements hands down in our dictionary.

The resin casing is hermetically sealed (Single piece casing with no caseback) that keeps the watch water-resistant to 5 Bars (50m).

Although the Smilesolar is stamped as ‘Made in China’, only the final assembly process was performed in China. All major components including the Cal.2085 Movement and hands were made by Citizen in Japan, reassuring fanatics for products that are ‘Made in Japan’. https://nushorology.wordpress.com/2015/05/23/review-qq-smile…

Using code P5OZZIE, at $28.50 FAST 'N FREE these could be a great inexpensive Christmas gift and the band would be easy to replace.

A quick summury of the review & past comments -

Q&Q is a subsidiary of Citizen Watches who has had vast experience manufacturing Solar powered watches since the early 1970s and uses Citizen’s eco-drive movement, (solar powered and made in Japan) Citizen eco-drive movement beats conventional quartz movements hands down in our dictionary.

Weighing in at a mere 24grams, because it's mostly all resin, including the lens. Past comments have also commented that it's very light. They remind me of Swatch Watches but have the benefit of being solar & standard lugs.

        • +4

Appreciated. I've now added most of that to the description.

  • +2

Thanks PJC! Grabbed one. Looks like a great deal. Will join my Swatch Sistem51 Navy watch in the 'cheap, with a cool movement' collection.

    • +1

      Well done.

  • +2

    Are these for females?

    • +2

Why wouldn't they be? Just make sure she likes wearing 40mm watches.

      • +1

My wrist is pretty slim and I'm a guy, about 5.5cm wide… wear watches up the wrist or go for women's?
Or any good wrist building exercises?

        • 40mm should still look fine on your wrist.

    • +1

Marketed as Unisex, but in my view uncomfortable for a very slim wrist.

  • +2

    Thanks OP, just ordered one

    • +1

      Well done.

  • +3

Thanks OP ordered one for the BOSS.

    • +3

      Springsteen?

    • +1

      Obey with gratitude.

  • +2

Great find and even better description, OP! And I thought droit du seigneur has been abolished…

    • +2

It's legal if they mark their 'X' on the right documents.

  • +2

Didn't need but 2 incoming anyway thanks op~

    • +1

You'll find a use for them.

  • +3

I'm ok now - watching a little war footage has cured me of that video.

These watches are cute & make good gifts if you have any friends.
    Not for swimming…

    • +2

They were all so elated I assumed they had bat-shaped fidget spinners.

  • Are these suited for casual wear, like with jeans and a tee?

    • +3

Hi, i'm with the Fashion Police, and the answer to your question is 'yes'.

      • Thanks mate, just bought one!

        • +1

You may as well at this price.

        • +2

          @PJC:

Whoops, forgot my manners. Thanks OP!

      • +1

        Good work Officer!

      • +1

        Would a black one

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Q-Q-SmileSolar-Series-RP00J00…

look bad with smart casual/smart formal wear?

I'm looking for something simple and goes well with shirts

        • I bought the same one lol. Gonna wear it with a white shirt and black jeans/pants since the band is those two colours.

        • +2

          Thank you for your query.

Your nominated choice is suitably subdued for smart/casual/formal/gumboots, with the red second hand commanding a certain presence.

You may well get laid wearing this.
Hell, i might buy one myself now that i think about it.

        • +1

Good choice. That one would be appropriate for both categories.

        • @montorola:
not sure if good fashion choice or having a laugh…

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:
Thanks for your reply, I'm quite impressed by your fashion service, hope to call you up in future :)

Yes I like the red second hand, stands out, I was just worried about the inner white plastic ring, afraid it will make it look like cheap plastic toy, hope it's transparent enough on the black watch.

Let me know if you bought one, we'll see how the white and black straps go but maybe full black may be the way to go.

        • +1

@TheOneWhoGotAway: You could inform inquirers the colour scheme portrays an unconventional contrast on an environmentally responsible timepiece.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:

You may well get laid wearing this.

Instructions unclear. Got **** stuck in watch.

        • +1

          @TheOneWhoGotAway:

I bought this one a year or two ago.
I simply cannot fathom why it's not more popular.

BTW they're topping up the numbers back up to 10 all the time…

        • +2

          @PJC:

haha I wouldn't know how to say that clearly, I'd go for something cheesy "This is to always remind me that our time here one earth is numbered…"

        • @AngryChicken:
Not everyone including me are bold enough to go with the full red back face.
Are you male or female, I'm guessing if you dress right you could make that watch work but for me it'd just make me look like a kid, something I'm always trying to avoid after being told by friends sometimes my clothes make me look like one…

        • +1

@TheOneWhoGotAway: At this price if you just wear it 9 days a year it's still worthwhile for what is essentially a colourful, casual Eco-Drive.

        • +1

          @PJC:
It'll give me a good reason to get out and about in the sun, just gotta remember to put on sunscreen.
          Ty for the deal

        • +2

          @TheOneWhoGotAway:

They don't need direct sunlight, near a window in the shade seems to work fine for my Eco-Drive if I haven't worn it for a while.

        • +1

@TheOneWhoGotAway: It may arrive next week. If you conclude the style is wrong for you, it can still be an effective gift for someone.

  • +1

Thanks OP!! Bought one! I went with the black/ white version that seems popular and looks good- only 8 left!

    • +1

Sensible choice; stock numbers are indeed reducing.

Watches may be stamped 'made in Japan' even if manufacturered overseas, if under Japanese management

    https://thewatchface.com/seiko-made-in-japan-really-made-in-…

Considering how lax this regulation is, if Smilesolar is stamped as ‘Made in China’, then it probably is NOT made in Japan at all.

    • +2

I see your point, and I wouldn't be surprised. But the reviewer (Justin Tay) has no reason to make that up. Eco-Drives have such a good reputation anyway, it doesn't really matter.

Although the Smilesolar is stamped as ‘Made in China’, only the final assembly process was performed in China. All major components including the Cal.2085 Movement and hands were made by Citizen in Japan.

Regardless the whole industry is misleading. Swiss watches are just as bad, if not worse.
The Great Chinese Swiss Watch Paradox

      • +1

Now that's a perfectly reasonable and measured response we've got there…

  • +1

    Received my 2 watches.

Feels like toy watch for kids. Every materials are made of plastic, nothing metal. $30 is still too much for this. Will use it as temporary watch.

    Btw, thanks heap OP.

    • +1

I hope you paid no more than $28.50 each! But I cannot deny their designs won't suit everybody.

    • +3

Oh sure they have a toy feel to them, but i think they're worth circa $30 given the EcoDrive tech in them, but no more.

As to manufacture, the eBay listing is pretty clear:

      Glass Type: Acrylic Resin
Case Material: ABS Resin (contains Recycled ABS Resin)
Band Material: Polyurethane Resin (contains Recycled Polyurethane Resin)

I got mine yesterday, Not sure if it happened to anyone else, the watch came with a warranty card back dated to 2013. There is a one year warranty on the watch, so now mine is not covered, I guess. I have sent them an email, hopefully it gets sorted out.

    • +1

      Keep us updated.

    • +2

Under Aus Consumer Law you only need proof of purchase in order to proceed with a warranty claim.
So your credit card statement or paypal receipt should be fine.

      • +2

Just got a reply from them

        Hi There,

The warranties are dated yy/mm/dd which means that the warranty date should be eg. 17/11/13 (17th being the year).

I thought Australia follows dd/mm/yy correct me if I am wrong, http://www.editoraustralia.com/styleguide_dates.html

more over they do call themselves "Citizen Watches Australia"

Oh well, mystery solved. thanks guys

        • Good result.

        • +2

          …correct me if I am wrong…

          Some folk just won't listen.

Thanks OP, just got this one.

    • +2

Well done, the colours have a nice contrast. I assume you mistakenly ticked "I am associated with …"?

      • +2

Yes whoops, not sure how to change it as I’m on my phone! Also, my watch came today and it’s great! :)

        • +2

          Good to know. Enjoy.

  • +1

Great! This should keep my wenches happy

    • Well it's a start anyway. There are only 12 models to choose from.

    • One break in is risky, but 10 is foolhardy.
