  • I just bought this last week, it was listed at $129 and I got it for $99. Cooked pulled pork in it twice already. Can't recommend it enough.

Only thing I will say is we already have some scratches on the inside non stick tub from the tray that you sit your meat on.

    • This is one reason I'm waiting for Instant pot which has a stainless steel pot. (many reviews are paid promotions, but Amazon has genuinely good reviews)

The only disadvantage is rice may stick to the bowl if the water is not right

      • +1

I recommend the instant pot, the rice does stick a bit but not hard to clean. I brought mine a year ago from Amazon uk via a ozbargain deal.

        • I'll wait for a deal then , cheers

  • Can this be used to cook bone broth? Need to cook it for 12 hours as per recipe.

    • +1

The biggest challenge you'll probably face is the capacity. Also, the non-stick coatings are susceptible to scratching and bones are going to be riskier than most things.

    • You can pressure cook bone broth for 2h and it's better than the 12h version IMO. Same health benefits, very gelatinous and flavoursome. Make sure you saute the bones well for extra rich umami goodness.

        thanks for the tip.

I use a $20 slow cooker from the discount shop. It has a ceramic pot . Cooks braised Steak and onion to perfection as well. I would be wary of a pot with nonstick surface as the other person said, they can be scratched easy. Braised steak that has bones is better than bone broth. The tomato acid helps break down the bones and tastes divine.

Can't comment on this particular one, but bought a phillips one a couple years ago for $70. Best money ive ever spent i reckon. Absolutely reccomend getting a pressure cooker, so versitile and makes great food. Does amazing ribs better than most restaurants for a fraction of the price. Also does a really mean chicken soup.

This x100000000!!! 17 minutes out of the broth on a rack, then onto the grill with Sweet Baby Ray's to crust up. Soooooo tender and delicious.

      • Yep absolutely! I use the grill mates Tennessee smokehouse rub on it that you get at Coles. Chuck a bit of apple cider vinegar in the pressure cooker and it turns out amazing

      • Sweet Baby Ray's

As soon as I saw this, I knew this comment was yours.

        ;)

  • noob question… Do I need to worry about these pressure cookers exploding on me? I heard some horror stories from colleagues that they can explode if you dont release the pressure manually or something…hence I've never used on in my life

    • Sure that may have been the case of pressure cookers 50 years ago. But that won't happen with pressure cookers these days. They are supposed to have safe guards.

    • There is a valve on top which you flick over to let the pressure out when you are done, as long as you aren't silly and open it up before doing that you will be fine.

      • Wow that's a silly design. Pressure cookers like the Tefal Cook4Me automatically release the pressure.

Also any how. I'm sure this pressure cooker would have a safe guard lock which would stop the lid from being opened until a certain amount of pressure had been released from it.

        • Yeah this does have a safe guard.
It also automatically releases pressure once it reaches a certain point but from memory you still have to release manually by flipping the valve once ready

        • @Sjfilly: what happens if you forgot to flip the valve?

        • @homersyd:

I would have it as a guess that the lid can't be opened until it is.

        • @hollykryten: tat doesnt sound too bad then…

        • If anyone is interested in the Cook4Me it is $299 at Harvey Norman, at the moment.

        • @hollykryten:

          Yeah spot on

        • @try2bhelpful:

$269 @ Bing Lee. Delivery if need be is $9 to metro locations. Maybe price match huh.

        • @hollykryten: just checked my photo from Harvey Norman near Chaddy in Melbourne and it was $259.

        • @try2bhelpful:

Strange. The HN online store has it as $299. That $259 could be a store managers deal price.

        • @hollykryten: yeah, that was why I posted $299., but I took the photo on the weekend, I checked the photo because I thought it was cheaper than that. Worth a phone call to HN Chaddy to ask the current price.

        • @try2bhelpful:

The timestamp says Saturday at 4:15 = Chadstone.

        • @homersyd:

I think this is the same model I have and the valve is a safety valve.. so it let some steam out all the time and will pop off (I assume) if pressure gets too high.. the flick over is to simply to do a quick release of the pressure so you can open it quicker.. you can just turn it off and slowly let the pressure out without doing this and then open when the safety lock on the lid releases.

    • I understand your worry. I had the same worry too years ago. My pressure cooker then (prestige) exploded and hot liquid splashed my whole kitchen. Lucky no one was hurt I stopped for good 10years and I bought thermal pot instead. Last year I bought Tefal multicocker and never regret. I brought along when I go local holidays and have cooked rice, broth, chicken satay etc etc.

        multicocker

We have those at work 😂

      • OMG is that you Lenny? Remember our boss Mr Burns?!

    • I was afraid of this too. I bought a Philips that looked similar to this about 6 months ago.

The way the Philips works is that once it's hit the time you set for it to cook, it slowly releases the pressure on its own so that in most cases by the time you get to dealing with it, there's no pressure left. You do still have to move the switch on top to "vent" but it doesn't seem to do much if you do so after waiting a few minutes for the automatic pressure release to happen on its own. However, if you're in a hurry or want to stop cooking before the time's up, when you move the switch on top to "vent", a significant amount of hot steam does escape, so just don't be surprised by that.

I use mine at least once a week and haven't had a problem with it, despite my initial concerns.

The one thing to be wary about, if this is like the Philips, is that it doesn't quite get up to the pressure required for some things like canning. So if that's one of the things you're looking to do with a pressure cooker, research your options carefully to ensure you get one that is high enough pressure to do that.

  • The non stick is the turn off for me . i have too many appliances where non stick is scrathed or peeling but rest of appliance is fine

    • That's right, teflon doesn't stick to anything…including frypans & cookware

  • Do anyone know how this Multicooker can slow cook ? I have similar one but don't know how to use it. I throw instruction when moving house :(
    Thanks

    • Deleted comment, sorry I misread your post.

    • Post the make and model. Someone might be able to help.

  • On the fence about this, seems like a great buy but lots of users complaining of failure to build pressure https://www.productreview.com.au/p/sunbeam-aviva.html

    • +1

It’s due to the lid not being closed properly or aligned with the seal.
It’s happened several times but you just have to ensure the lid is closed properly

      • Sounds like a cheaply made design. With a proper really good pressure cooker such as the Tefal Cook4Me. There's no need for any of this trying to properly align a seal. Just close the lid and turn the lock knob. But the Cook4Me yeah that's currently about $260-$300.

        • I guess you get what you pay for but it’s only happened a few times.
I’ve got the breville fast cook now and that seems pretty good

      • We have an issue with ours not building pressure and I think the concept is great but this design is poor.. the safety valve on top is very poor… ours let way too much steam out and does not build pressure unless I put something on top of the vale to hold it down.. steam still comes out, and I don't put something heavy or block the steam. My issue has nothing to do with the lid seal, but the valve…
