depends what it says in the T&C's
but in terms of exclusions of purchses, I can confirm I've never had any issues with buying apple products/gift cards and have always received cash back. They have no way of telling what you bought.

yes in my experience from last year when I bought my 12 MacBook, I got email confirmations immediately. Amex can't tell from the transaction I believe and hopefully they haven't changed.
I can confirm I have used a previous Amex deal to get cash back on an Apple purchase from HN. I don't think Amex can tell if it is an Apple purchase?

I was hoping to do exactly this as I'm going overseas in a few days but they said the only iPhone 8s they have are for Optus sign ups. Wouldn't budge on that. Annoying as hell cuz they had heaps in stock for Optus contracts. I want unlocked to be able to claim trs.

Surely $369 after Amex rebate (on $469 from Harvey Norman)
Bought an iPad wi-fi 32gb yesterday. HN offered $455. Went downstairs to JB, asked the sales guy what his best price was and out came $441 … less the Amex/HN offer (i bought a visa giftcard) less GST claimed today by the Mrs. Already missing the Mrs or maybe the iPad :)

But all AmEx sees in its systems is a >$400 charge coming through from HN, which triggers the statement credit. There's no 'metadata' in this charge. Have a look at any slip that comes out of an EFTPOS terminal and you'll see what I mean, all you see is amount and a few other IDs such as ABN, terminal IDs l, authorisation codes etc.

the the GROWING side of mobile phones (phablets 5.5"-6.5") its hard to justify an ipad these days. I know because I have an unused ipad and cant bring myself to by the latest one. Its at best, a glorified kindle!
