  • apparently the older ones they used to make were good but these aren't. Anyone own one and can comment?

Currently coming to the end of my sleeping duck and found it too firm for a side sleeper (used to wake up with shoulder pain) but the soft insert they've provided has helped with that but I feel my hips sink in too much/it doesn't provide support there when lying on my side.
Have a few weeks left of my trial and am unsure whether I want to stick with it. I wish I asked for the soft insert sooner.

    • we've had one for 5-6 months. best sleep i've ever had. they're so comfortable.

if you are in the market for a new mattress it's worth trying they're fantastic

  • Has there been any research by consumers about Koala, Ecosa, Lazybed, sleeping duck etc and what the actual differences between all these mattresses are. To me, they all seem to be the exact same thing?? However, their prices differ wildly. Lazybed can be had for $600 for a queen size, where as the Koala is $900 for the same size. Sleeping Duck is even more expensive. Anyone know how they differ so greatly in price yet are essentially the same thing?

Probably mostly all the same because they're all foam. Sleep Republic are one of the few that do mattress in a box with mattresses that have pocket springs. I'm looking for a medium to firm mattress and in my research pocket springs are the better option.

Some have a spring system, some haven't. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mattresses. Some have similar materials besides this (eg. foam, latex) though and it would be interesting to have more detail into where they source all these from and the exact quantities in each.

I would be interested to see how the 5 pocket spring system in these 'bed in a box' beds (such as sleeping duck, eva, etc), which are compacted on delivery, differs to the 5 pocket spring system in the locally made beds (eg. Sealy) which aren't compacted. They 'look' the same. In my mind, I keep thinking a mattress that has had its springs compacted for x amount of time is surely inferior to one that hasn't. Which is why I am leaning towards Ozmattress - they have the a good niche in this market as I am unaware of another Australian company which ships Aussie made spring mattresses without compaction.

I'm pulling my hair out with buying a mattress. The online competition is certainly better for choice and consumer wallets but it doesn't make buying any less confusing.

  • i get a lot of their ads, sounds like bullshit. Would be good to know ozb feedback. We have a latex mattress which was a lot of money but has been good the last 15 years.

There is a few really good discussions on Whirlpool about the Koala mattresses.

      e.g. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2473017

Seems the hype is real, people there took them to task and tried out the mattress and I don't think anyone gave it back at the end of their trial periods.

  • Does it come with the spider?

  • I bought a Koala mattress some time ago and gave it back. Compared to the Spring pocket I was used to it kept me too warm and made me sweaty.

  • Have had my koala for over a year and a half. So so comfy, I sleep so well now.

  • Koala have increase their mattress prices.
For example queen mattress has gone up by $150 dollar.
Was $900 before any coupon but now is $1050 before coupon application.
April 2017 it was $900, now its $1050.

Koala getting all publicity & they jack prices up to boost thier profit.
