Came across the following as I've just sold my old LCD panel and was looking for an update at a reasonable price point but offered all the bells and whistles that an Ozbargainer like me seeked.

As a gamer and HD content aficionado, I knew my next TV had to have HDR10, Smart TV capabilities and be future proofed enough to last me to till the day that OLED panels become more affordable, reliable and had their minor kinks addressed.

I am normally a badge snob but after seeing positive reviews of Hisense's N7 series and TCL's foray into the USA, I've dug deeper into their top of the line X2 series.

A great video if you have the time to watch it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSwcVzxbrzY
TLC Site: https://www.tclelectronics.com.au/product/x2-55-inch-4k-qled…

Highlights:
* HDR Pro (HDR10)
* Inbuilt Harmon Kardon speakers
* Android OS with built-in Chromecast (Running Android 6.1 but confirmed with their support team that it will be updated to 7.0)
* Quantum Dot Display (Samsung, TCL and Hisense are the only manufacturers Supporting QUHD)
* 3 Year Warranty
* $70 Eftpos Card Via Redemption - https://www.tclelectronics.com.au/promotions/

So after looking at the direct competition which is the Samsung Q7 Series which has a price point of approx $2.5K.
The way I see it, If you can't afford an LG OLED get a Samsung QUHD set, If you can't afford that get a TCL X2 :)

I've had a look at every retail store that stocks this model and factoring delivery nationwide none of them get close to this deal.
The closest is $1535.00, Which is $186.80 more dearer and you don't get the wall mount kit which worth a bit.

So what's the dollar amount and what do I save?
RRP: $1999
Ebay Price: $1,498.00
Discount via code: 10% ($149.80)
Free Wall Mount: From what I quickly saw online - Wall mounts vary but let's say $40

Total Payable: $1348.20

Redeem the $70.00 Eftpos Voucher and that takes the cumulative balance down to $1278.20
C'mon, where are you going to find a panel of this quality and specs for this price point? :)

    Buyer beware TCL are hopeless, I ordered one from a local store, TCL failed to process the order, then they internally had issues, then they failed to deliver on stated day. Finally got my TV almost 3 weeks later and it was FAULTY, still waiting for a replacement or a decision to give me my money back.
    IT AS NOT FROM THIS RETAILER MY COMMENTS ARE ABOUT TCL

      Hi drwau. So you got the TV from a store but TCL failed to deliver it?
      I think all brands have their problems, I've had a $600 Samsung PC monitor arrive with multiple dead pixels so it's not just the smaller brands.

      While 3 weeks for a replacement doesn't sound great by any means, did they give you a reason?
      Stock delays, delivery issues?

    I have to point out there was a slightly cheaper listing on Ebay for $1323 but I didn't link that as it didn't seem like a good value proposition.
    For a $25.20 saving you miss out on the wall mount and this listing has a restrictive delivery condition so less Ozbarginer's have access to it;

    Excludes Delivery To: Northern Territory, QLD Far North, WA Regional, Tasmania, WA Remote

    Linked below if you don't need the wall mount and you live in areas they deliver to;

    • They have now dropped the price further making it quite attractive…hmmm 1287 now

  • Hisense N7 or TCL x2?

    • +1

      That's a tough one.
      Basically I took a gamble on the TCL X2 based on the good feedback on the model below which is the TCL C2.

      As the X2 is their highest model in their range, I balanced out the features and the price point compared to the N7.
      The clincher was Quantum Dot Display which is only avaliable on the Hisense N9

      This is what I believe will be the one feature that makes it better than the N7.

      But either way, both great TV's. Get the one that your budget allows for. :)

      • Did you purchase one?, I really regret it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        But I would never think of entertaining a HISENSE.
        Should have stick to my original plan and got a Sony 9000 series or wait till the new year and got a OLED. some great price around at the moment in the LG 55C7,

        • haha bought tcl but wont consider Hisense. Whats your basis for that?

        • +1

          I did, should be delivered on Friday. Why do you regret it?
          As much as the LG 55C7 would have been my no.1 choice, I justified my choice based on the fact that I loved the display quality of the OLED and knowing Quantum Dot gave a close comparison it was a no brainer.

          Take in mind that the closest LG 55C7 was $1100 in price difference this was an easy enough choice. OLED is the future but I'm planning on waiting 3-4 years for the tecchnology to mature which is why the TCL is perfect for now.

          Don't regret anything, I'm quite confident the TCL will impress. :)

        • @rakerr: Past experience

        • @ZackyD: Because the poor service I experienced in initially getting the tv, coupled with a faulty screen,
          Does not make me want to get another,. Even thou the tv has 6 speakers along the front and tuned by HK( marketing rubbish) it still suffers from mediocre sound .

        • @drwau: Thanks for that… Hoping it's trouble free when I get it.

          If there were no issues with the screen and poor service. Would you have been happy with the purchase? Don't know if there is much better at the price point.

          (The sound doesn't bother me too much, I have my own sound bar)

        • @ZackyD: don't waste your money on the x2 go for the c2 the silver surround and metallic front reflects far too much light it makes the tv look like it has a halo
          black surrounds and front is far better, hope your soundbar has a optical input or hdmi with arc i have a two way bidirectional hdmi switch to my soundplate and receiver. also you will need to use a sideloader app to be able to load maybe a decent ad free file manager and different media apps look for the smpc you might have to download it on a pc then transfer far better than kodi as i do not think the newest version is on google play and this tv has limited google play access

  • I really wish you could see this on display somewhere, I tried a couple of Betta stores but none of them have it on display. they'll just tell you that it's a better version of the C2. To be fair the C2 looks like amazing value for money tho. So if the X2 is anything near the Samsung QLED (or so they claim) then it'll also be amazing value for money.

    • That's what I'm hoping for. The C2 doesn't have the Quantum Dot Display so I'm expecting a marked improvement.

      As I'm in NSW, no major electrical supply has it on display so all I can go off is online feedback.

      • well the replacement tv did not live up to the hype of quantum dot, just get the c2, I finally decided no more and returned it. far too much light leakage on the left and right hand sides. you grow tired of the metal looks very quickly I found as well

      try calling tcl choose sales and get then to look what stores in your locale have ordered them, if a lady answers then forget it, if a guy answers he told who had stock, and i had to travel way across my city to view it. Initial looks is stunning but after a while it fades, go for a c2 i wish i did. Some Harvey Normans have them as well, must be what the franchisee can stock over the corporate HN brands
