What you are referring to is the Pixel 2 XL and it has a OLED display, this has an LCD

  • Any other downsides to this variant as compared to the 870DS aside from the lesser storage and lack of dual sim support?

    • No quad DAC. Possibly Telstra bloat.

      • Oh damn really no Quad DAC… The K-variant is missing all the goodies.

    • Only other difference I can see - which is nothing really - is that the K version is USB 3.1 vs 2.0 on the DS
      https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g6-8466.php#h870k vs https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g6-8466.php#h870ds

    • Seems like the DS has dual sim (2nd slot shared with uSD), 64gb internal storage and potentially the quad DAC (couldn't find mention of the last one)

Not sure is gsmarena is right about the USB speed. from another comparison site, it was the same between both and makes sense that it wouldn't be different

      • The HK LG site states the H870DS as being USB v2.0 HS.

        http://www.lg.com/hk_en/mobile-phone/lg-H870DS-Black-64GB.

I agree it makes no sense. I can't find any confirmation from actual people with the phones.

I have the DS variant. Not sure on the USB 2.0 claim though as I never transfer data over USB so it's a non issue for me. I can confirm the second sim slot doubles as a SD slot and it has a Quad Dac which you can turn on or off when playing audio through your headphones (possibly to save power?). I can confirm the Quad Dac makes a huge difference in audio quality, you notice it when you disable the DAC. Both the K and DS lack wireless charging. DS has QC 3.0 though which works great, especially with all the blitzwolf charger deals on here.

The screen is not too good, but good price if you care about warranty. After the screen burn-in on XL, may skip LG for a while. Whatever, they are all made by LG.

I think OLED, super amoled both may have this problem but G6 is LCD won't have this problem.

  • This or a OnePlus 5?

    • Oneplus 5t/6 is supposed to be announced early Nov. You can't get oneplus 5 direct from oneplus au anymore (out of stock) and all ebay prices I saw were way higher than then their soft launch prices.

These people commenting about burn in on LG phones… If you can't wrap your heads around the difference in screen technology between an LCD and an OLED, perhaps you'll understand that the G6 has been out for 8 months now, and as far as I'm aware, there haven't been any reports of dodgy screens.
Just like there were no problems with the LG G5 screen, the LG G4 screen, the LG G3 screen etc etc.

    • As someone who has had to return my phone twice (the second time with a long wait and a huge headache - illegaly cancelled contract -
despite Aussie stock from major retailer) I can completely understand the animosity towards LG. In my case it wasn't the dreaded boot loop but Wifi and Bluetooth chip dead/disconnected both times. Phone reset didn't bring it back. Rumour is this and boot loops were due to LG getting cheap with the solder.

I'm not seeing as much about LG G6 boot looping. Maybe they fixed the issue. Their initial response was awful….and I'm still waiting for my 3rd LG G4 to die. I'm still not keen on buying another LG either.

  • Not good deal, previous ones around $460 if I remember right. This one AU stock though.

    • That one is grey imported.

I'm still rocking an LG G3, this thing is a tank. Dropped dozens of times, screen still flawless, came with a spare battery, changed that one in. Just keeps on going. I hope removable battery phones come back.
