its so confusing. does it mean there is actually 21GB included data?…… where 12 gb is only available in UK and 9gb everywhere else in the world?

Or is it meaning that 3gb is UK exclusive and the other 9gb can be used around the world….

    • +1

12GB total data, where 9GB out of it could be roaming.

      • +1

also it lists a dozen countries which it can be used in, but it then says can be used in 60countries. lol. not sure which one is it.

        Will this work in Japan?

Also i know some telcos will block Mifi which is easy to do since they would block the IMEI.
But blocking hotspotting on an actual mobile, not sure if that is even possible.

        • +1

This should be the list http://www.three.co.uk/feel-at-home/

        • +2

@jkcat: ahhh thanks. looks like japan not included…. ah well.

        • they can block it, amaysim blocked hotspotting at the very start (like 7 years ago when i was using it on iphone 4), at that time you have to go and request them to unblock it

        • +2

When I was recently over in Japan I bought this data sim: http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/

BIC Camera and Yodobashi Camera are quite common at least around Tokyo and can buy them there.

The speeds were excellent and IIRC was able to tether to my laptop.

        • I’ve had a few of these now and can confirm that they work with mifi devices as I have a HUAWEI MIFI and use the three 12GB sim in it when in Europe. They work very well but just remember to turn of auto updates etc when using wifi/mifi method as this will soon chew up your data as I found out with a new iPad I connected that had auto updates enabled by default.
Edit. Actually this seems to be a different sim to the 12GB data only sims I purchased so not sure about the mifi option with these and if they allow tethering.
These are the ones that work in mifi units that I buy in the UK. https://soeasy.travel/collections/uk-and-europe/products/thr…

      • This is correct. See my comment further down for what I found using this in September

  • These are good. Activated it in Hong Kong where it worked fine and have used it for the past week in the UK where it was predominately used for Google maps without a hassle. Off to the US now for more Google maps.

    • Download the maps offline then no need for data :) You can select a region and it caches to your device

  • +1

I am in Europe now and can vouch for it. Has been using it in Amsterdam, vienna and Swiss (both calls and data) without issues.

Is there a "must be activated by" date?

How do you recharge? What are the conditions on recharge?

    • "SIM card expires after 12 months if not Activated"

So allow a bit of time (not sure when they set it up) but you have some scope.

Recharge is the same as ever on SIMs, though you might have to get the recharge from the UK - never bothered personally.

    • They activate it for you on the date you give them, card expires 12 months of no activity.
Top up is available via a third party top up website with any visa/mastercard

      • I just bought 3 and put in a late-March 2018 activation date.

I want to use them sequentially through April-May-June-July, that should work then right?

        • Yes the credit is applied when you start using each one, you get 30 days from first use, it’s the sim that’s activated, you apply the included credit to the plan on startup.

        • You can top them up from third party sites selling £20 top up codes (usually a small fee)

Note that Three don't like it if you use 9GB roaming and might temporarily block your access. They seem so confused on their own policies I managed to get £20 credit applied (0.78p/MB), then my roaming started working a few days later…

        • @Lukian:

Note that Three don't like it if you use 9GB roaming and might temporarily block your access

          WTF?

        • @Stewardo:

They activate it for you on the date you give them

the credit is applied when you start using each one

          Sorry I'm a bit confused

        • @LoopyLou: the sim is active when you put it in phone, you then have to apply your included credit to a pre paid plan, which starts the minute you apply the credit.
If you never put sim in a phone or applied a credit the sim it would become disabled 12 months after the date you put for your travel.
The instructions are easy to follow and come with the sim

        • @89tnp: Read the fine print in their Terms & Conditions. Page 10.

          • If you’re roaming in a Feel At Home Around the World destination, you can use a portion of these allowances each month. For example, if your Add-on has a data allowance greater than 9GB, you can use up to 9GB of that allowance each month to get online. If you exceed your 9GB monthly data allowance in a Feel At Home Around the World destination, your data usage will be blocked in our Feel At Home destinations until your next billing period. If you exceed any of these allowances for any two months within a rolling 12-month period we have the right to suspend international roaming on your account, meaning you will no longer be able to use your device or allowance abroad. Of course, we will let you know in advance if this is likely to happen.
          • If you’re roaming in a Feel At Home in Europe destination, and your Add-on has a data allowance greater than 9GB, then our Fair Use Data Policy applies. This allows you to use up to 9GB of your data allowance in our Feel At Home in Europe destinations, at no extra cost. If you use 9GB, and still have remaining data allowance available, you can continue to use your data, but this is subject to a surcharge of up to 0.78p/MB.
There are no fair use policies in our Feel At Home in Europe destinations for calls or texts from any available allowance.
          • To ensure all customers can benefit from Feel At Home in Europe with roaming at no extra cost, we also reserve the right to apply a surcharge in case of abusive use. In order to help us to detect possible abuse of Feel At Home in Europe, we may monitor your usage and presence. We’ll look at the balance of your roaming and domestic (UK) activity over 120 days: if you spend the majority of your time abroad and consume more abroad than at home over the 120 days, we have the right to add a small surcharge to your usage. This surcharge will be capped at a maximum of 0.78p/MB; 3p/min; and 0.9p/SMS. Don’t worry – we’ll send you an alert two weeks before the surcharge is applied, giving you an opportunity to modify your roaming behaviour to avoid being charged this surcharge.
Feel At Home is intended for our UK customers who are visiting one of the destinations for short periods, like holidays or business trips. It isn’t designed for people who live abroad or stay for extended periods. If you roam exclusively in a Feel At Home Around the World destination for any two complete months in a rolling 12-month period, we may suspend international roaming on your account, meaning you will no longer be able to use your phone or device abroad. Of course, we will let you know in advance if this is likely to happen. If you spend a full month abroad but some of that time is spent in a destination that isn’t included in Feel At Home, the restriction won’t apply.

          @Lukian:

Sounds like another reason to buy multi Sims instead of recharging

        • @89tnp: Indeed!

  • Thanks OP, heading to Europe late next week!

  • Deal looks good. Purchased.

  • Data can be used in New Zealand.. But no voice and texts though?

    • No you would need extra credit for that and would be a roaming rates, best to use iMessage whatsapp etc

  • +2

just in time for trip next month!
whats the reason it needs the departure date though?

    • I guess that will be the activation date.

  • +1

    Sold!

  • +1

    Good deal.

This SIM costs £20 when purchased from Three UK.

This AU$36 cost is under £21.50 with free delivery.

  • I'm travelling mid next year, can this be activated then?

  • My wife and I are travelling to the UK for 3 weeks and Paris for 1 week in August 2018.

All we're really wanting to do is to be able to contact each other should we get separated, and phone ahead in both countries to book accommodation on the run. Will these cards be fine for that purpose?

    • In uk yes, in France you could call each other via whatsapp, or web based calls.

  • +2

I know it says 300 minutes in UK/EU, but can you receive call for FREE when you are outside of the UK/EU e.g. USA

  • I'm going to be traveling for ~2 months - this deal only lasts the one month correct? What are cheap options for recharging? I don't need much data or minutes at all

    • Otherwise cheaper options for lower amounts of data/minutes?

    • +1

Buy a recharge voucher online. I think this is the one I bought: http://www.myphonecard.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product…

It will give you a 16 character voucher code exactly the same as the process you follow when you receive this product.

Note that you cannot top up the data to use more than 9GB outside the UK (see my comment further down)

    • They sell a smaller data prepaid sim from the same company,
You can top up online on a third party website

  • When do these expire. Looking at going to Europe May-July next year.

    • +1

      It's literally in the post.

      • SIM card expires after 12 months if not Activated

  • +2

OP, on your ozbargain description you say the 300 mins calls and 3000 text is for UK and EU. On the actual page on your website it says UK only. Could you please clarify? Thank you.

  • These are good! Got one for a trip to Barcelona in August. Worked brilliantly - was able to stream the australia v Japan soccer game without lag! Aa++

  • Awesome. Just bought one each for the wife and I for UK trip next May. BTW, those asking they don't expire before activation and they activate when you put in your phone. When purchasing it asks for the date required for.

  • Thanks OP, will these be ok for travel in January 2018?

  • Thanks OP!

  • this would be perfect had it not been the no tethering/hotspot.

Does anyone have any Operator recommendations for Poland by any chance? preferably one with a pre-paid data plan over 10GB

    • +1

Your mileage may vary, but I was able to tether in countries where the provider wasn't Three :D

So in Denmark, the roaming partner is Three Denmark. That was the only one of seven countries in which I couldn't tether the kid's iPad.

      Again, your mileage may vary.

      • Thanks for this. I have done a bit more reading and it is apparently pretty cheap in Poland to get a sim with considerable data allowances so due to my needs I think getting the sim locally might work out better and cheaper too.

  • I'm going to UK and Europe in December with my partner so keen on getting 2 of these.
One question, can we top up our data I'd we happen to use it all? And how do we top up if we can?

As we are going to using google maps and stuff a lot to get around, so probably use a decent amount of data.

    Thanks.

    • I noticed that in the description of the link provided there is a heading labelled "Recharging: "

      recharging:

*** you will not be able to recharge anywhere else unless you are visiting the UK and go to a ThreeUK store. Online top up also does not work as ThreeUK only take UK credit cards

      • Haha yeah I literally just noticed that section at the same time.
So looks like you have to prebuy a recharge or do it in the Uk.

Does anyone know of any alternates that allows hotspotting? Apart from the no hotspotting this is perfect.

      • Another question.
If I find I'm getting low on data, can I just purchase one of these prepaid recharges while I'm already in Europe using your above link?

Or do I actually need to buy it before I leave Australia?

Sorry, first big European holiday coming up!

        • With this, it is easier /cheaper just to buy multiple sims. I used this back in march April, and its awesome for roaming all over Europe (although it's only 3g). Just use data - skype/what's app /messager to communicate (unless you are in the UK, or you will burn all your credit)

        • See my comment on data elsewhere in these comments. You can't, no way, no how, go over 9GB outside the UK.

If you need to, buy a second SIM.

      • +1

Buy a voucher from a third party vendor online if you need. I bought this one from memory: http://www.myphonecard.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product…

(OP wasn't particularly responsive to buying one remotely!)

      • They say that, but you can, you just can’t get it from 3 mobile.

  • Thanks. Bought one for Xmas to Switzerland, Finland, Italy,Singapore and Hong Kong for data.

  • +1

Can vouch for these. Was perfect for when i went to Europe. Only thing is it's voice only in the UK. You won't really get anything above 3G outside the UK though.

OP any chance of introducing US Sim cards to your store?

    • Voice only in the UK? I didn't realise that. Seems weird! Just bought two under the assumption of data in the UK as well as calls.

      • Hold on. Don't mind me. I get what you meant now. Can only make voice calls in UK!

    • This one works in USA,
USA sims are more expensive, T mobile is probably the cheapest

  • If I find I'm getting low on data, can I just purchase one of these prepaid recharges while I'm already in Europe using the below link?
Or do I actually need to buy it before I leave Australia?

    https://soeasy.travel/collections/uk-and-europe/products/thr…

Sorry, first big European holiday coming up!

    • You receive it through post in Australia. Then right before you depart, you activate it online following instructions provided so when you land, you have immediate access. I didn't have to recharge however I think the rates are whatever it is online. In this SIMs case, it's an included GBP20 recharge which gives you the above package.

      • You have to pre buy recharges now, unless you are in the UK and buying in £. Do not activate the sim until you get to where you need to start using it. It's simple, make sure roaming is on in settings, then put the sim in, turn on your phone @ destination. That activates the plan for 30 days thereafter.

    • +2

Hi, I recently travelled Europe using one of these and (nearly) ran out of data. But that's coz I watched Netflix and YouTube a lot!

      1. It's 12GB in the month, but under 'fair use' you can only use 9GB outside the UK
      2. Topping up is hard as Three don't accept OS credit cards, however there are plenty of online voucher resellers
      3. See #1: Even if you top up with a voucher, you can't use more than 9GB outside the UK under their 'fair use' policy
      4. On landing in the UK (last leg of our journey) my voucher suddenly became active and I had about 30GB to use in four days. Clearly I failed.
      5. We found good wifi available at most places we stayed, though hotels were pretty deceptive. When they say "free wifi" on booking.com they mean 100MB per day at dial-up speeds. Use wifi whenever you can.
      6. Use wifi whenever you can: lots of restaurants and shops have it. Tour busses too.
      7. If you really want a lot of data, buy two of these. Sure you'll have a different number in the second half of your trip, but you're already not using your AU number!
  • I used this when I travelled to Italy last month. Worked a treat, recommended

  • If I'm going for 12 weeks looks like I'm better off just buying 3 Sims instead of recharges?

    • edit: looks like this is the only option as buying the recharge requires you to fill in the UK number, which you won't have until later….

  • I also used this last month in Rome, italy and London.

    1) No calls - edit just realised maybe because i didn't use the country codes…
    2) great, decent speeds in london. mostly 3g in other countries but more than capable.
    3) super easy and no hassle

Very positive about the whole experience.

Does anyone know if you can top these up again and how much?

  • After reading all the positive posts I've ordered two for our holiday next August in the UK & Paris. Thanks OP

  • It's basically just above cost price from three UK below, 12GB is at £20

    https://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Pay_As_You_Go

  • I use this every time I travel. It's makes a huge difference when you are connected! Did a Europe trip this year and I had data in every country I visted.

  • How long can I keep the number for without topping up? I bought one early this year (Jan) and had a great time with it during my time in Europe, and I recently noticed that I can still receive sms with the card, anybody has any idea?

    • That’s how you keep it active just call it every six months

      • I don't think I have enough credit to make calls tho

  • Thanks purchased :).

But what's the reasoning for wanting the departure date?

    • Just a guess but perhaps it would be to ensure they can deliver it before you leave.

      • +2

Correct. Although I'm still waiting for mine that I ordered in August… would never use this company.

  • Perfect. Just got one for NZ in December!

  • Is there a good UK SIM anyone would recommend for wifi hotspot/tethering/dongle? This plan doesn't seem like it is suitable

  • Awesome deal, ordered two, used them before over the UK and they work perfectly.

  • +1

Is there a sim card for Hong kong and Taiwan? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    • Starhub Singapore seems to have really cheap data packs that work in HK and Taiwan (amongst others), although I'm not sure if you can activate them from outside Singapore.
Might be worth researching, chances are there's a gray market for imports.

  • Currently in Greece (Athens) with this SIM and only getting 3g. Speeds and coverage are pretty average. Almost zero reception when indoors.

Good enough to look up maps and reviews though.

  • Can anyone help me how to apply EU40 to get the discount? Thanks

    • Just go through the payment steps and there is a section to enter a coupon code before final payment.

  • I suggest that you consider this 3,2,1, plan:
    http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Pay_As_You_Go_Price_Plans
    SIM - FOC/ Minimum Top-Up £5/ Expiry of Top-Up - Never
Of course, you'll need an unlocked phone

  • +3

Still waiting on a SIM that was apparently posted twice…

  • +1

    Canada included?

  • Anyone got a recommendation for a USA sim that WILL allow tethering? Need one for March next year. TIA !

  • +1

The regular plan from 3 is a better deal I think - (you just pick them up at a vending machine in the airport)
    http://www.three.co.uk/Store/SIM/Plans_for_phones#?contract=…

    12GB Data Plan
    - £23 = $38 at the moment
    - Hotspot/tethering included
    - Unlimited Calls and Text

Or for £3 ($5) more, you get 30GB data.

    • +1

      Damn, allows hotspot/tethering too.
If only the UK wasn't my last stop on our 5 week Europe trip :(
