By Miyamoto Musashi, 108 pages, published June 26, 2016

Amazon's Description:

Miyamoto Musashi's Go Rin no Sho or the book of five rings, is considered a classic treatise on military strategy, much like Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Chanakya's Arthashastra.

The five "books" refer to the idea that there are different elements of battle, just as there are different physical elements in life, as described by Buddhism, Shinto, and other Eastern religions. Through the book Musashi defends his thesis: a man who conquers himself is ready to take it on on the world, should need arise.

I've read this many moons ago. difficult to comprehend at first, probably because i got the translated one. Was able to get the original text (in Japanese) and it made more sense. this is more like the samurai bushido than sun tzu art of war. but definitely a great read

Highly doubted you got the original in japanese. Over hundreds of years japanese would have changed, so it wouldnt have been in original japanese.

      • What I meant to say was, I got it in japanese, the language it was originally written. Things get lost in translation and I felt I understood it better in Japanese than in English.

You missed the point, the language it was written in was most likely quite different from modern japanese. Languages always involve its just a question of how fast. Its a bit how we might have half a chance in understanding Shakespeare but go back 800 years and Beowulf is very difficult if impossible to understand accurately.

It wasnt written in japanese it was written in a very ancient form that you wuldnt have a chance to understand even if you do read modern jap.
