Got this "email only" offer from GeekBuying. Cheap phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (better performance than popular SD625, but also more power hungry), 3GB RAM and 32GB flash. USD $108.99 delivered.

  • 5.5" FHD display
  • 3000mAH battery
  • USB Type-C
  • no band 28

It uses "eUI 5.8 (Base on Android 6.0 OS)". With LeEco facing bankruptcy, there's probably no chance that it will get any OS upgrade. After all, which cheap Chinese phone (other than Xiaomi) gets constant official updates. However it also has a sizeable community at XDA & official LineageOS build & lots of other ROMs.

  • I have the Leeco Letv Le2 pro since last year. Amazing,fast,xiaomi-like robust phone. Built quality is excellent for it's cheap price. I'd say it's an underrated phone but shame it's in trouble based on media accounts.

Warning, this phone has giant bezels that have been Photoshoped out of the website but are clear in videos:
    https://imgur.com/a/mvmrm

    • its pretty bad but most cheap phones are the same even my redmi note 3

    • Sounds like a fairly important and good call out but it the photos and the imgur you linked don't look too different to me. Maybe I'm just blind?

Agree with AMLagonda though. What are you gonna find at this price that has bezels like the 2017 flagships like Galaxy S8s, LG G6s..?

  • Tempting,is there anything similar but with a smaller screen?

  • This is very tempting.A SD652 3 GB phone for $140 AUD… and official Lineage OS to boot.
Almost too good for a kids phone. Great as a second/spare phone or as a primary phone if you can make do without having the best camera

  • So Same Spec as Redmi Note4? Same price too…which one to get.

    • +1

      Redmi Note4? Same price too

      A RN4 for $140?

      • Sorry, Redmi Note4x. Shopmonk had them for 135/145 a few months ago. Same specs I think.

        • +1

Important to note that that was the 3GB RAM/16GB model though (whereas this is 3GB RAM/32GB) , so you'd most definitely be wanting to sacrifice the second SIM slot for expandable storage, unless you barely use any apps.

          @illumination:

And didn't people receive the non-SnapDragon (which should be avoided at all costs) version?

        • @PainToad:

          Really? How can you check?

          Yeah forgot it was 16gb…sorry

      • Giztop had the 3gb/16gb for less than $140 last week. Sold out now though:
        https://www.giztop.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-4x.html

    • Not same CPU as RN4.

      Turn your number 5 & 2 around :-)

        haha so true, oops

      If you can get a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with 3GB RAM & 16GB flash for around the same price — I think it's probably a better supported phone. However, I haven't seen a RN4X with SD625 & 3GB/16GB configuration, it's either 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB & 4GB/64GB. Also on the low-end it's usually Helix rather than Snapdragon.

      • I just did a CPUZ check on one that my friend has - 3G/16GB with SD625…maybe he got lucky?

        • Have a look at those S8 knockoffs in Youtube. CPU checker states the right chipset but fails miserably in the actual benchmarks.

        • @downero:

So Xiaomi is making phones with fake SD625 CPU?

        • +1

@ironpaw: Your friend probably has the Redmi Note 4X which has a 3GB/16GB variant and is almost identical to the original Redmi Note 4.

As for the S8 knock offs. They're made by Goophone and use MediaTek SoCs.

Just remember there is no extended storage for these phones

WOW that's deceptive photography I thought the black dot on top of the phone was a jack anyone know what it is?

        • infra red

        • lol who is black hearted enough to downvote someones honest mistake

        • @tonyjzx: I only asked a question and haven't got an answer yet

        • @hawkeye: ?? its an infra red port

  • Be Awware you buy a car from GEEKBUYING advertised as in excellent condition and it comes without wheels. Check my other posts for their detailed wrongful advertising about products.

    • +4

      That sounds wheely bad.

      • In this case, a very squeaky wheel.

  • Price is showing as USD118.99 - is there is a code or something I'm missing?

      • Thanks for pricing update…

      • Does everyone can buy through this link? Or only the guy who received this email?

        • +1

I bought through the link. Paid 108.99USD like the post says

        • @yaziyo: sorry one more question. Which one is better for exchange rate, PayPal or credit card? Many thanks!

        • +1

@Fanzao: Depends entirely on your card. The best rate comes with a card like the Citibank Plus which charges no international conversion fee, and then pay in USD. In most situations though, even if your card charges you, you'll probably get a better price than having PayPal exchange the cash for you (sometimes you'll exchange to AUD and then your bank will still charge you international fees anyway as the actually transaction was processed internationally).

Your best option is generally to pay with PayPal in the original currency (i.e. USD here) and charge it to a non-fee card like Citibank plus.

        • @yaziyo: much appreciated! This is really helpful!!

  • Does this have a notification led?

  • AU Express shipping should be free for most postcodes.

Seems like there are hugely different reviews reported online with this phone.

Cons… Charging probs, overheating, bloatware, no expandable memory, sound issues.

Positives… Performance, Quick charge, usb over audio is mentioned to be a good thing (even though there's 3.5 headjack in the box but no 3.5 port on the phone

    I guess there's a trade-off for the price…

Can other owners provide their experience here please 😊

  • will the lenovo zuk at 129usd better than this? (light in the box sale)

    • ZUK uses older SD801 which is a 32bit processor. It has more storage (64GB) but ~USD $20 more expensive. Neither are well-supported by the manufacturer :(

      • yeah just than snapdragon 652 is 32bit too

        • Snapdragon 652:

          CPU Bit Architecture

          • 64-bit

SD801 is an older high-end chip but I think in this case I'll pick the newer mid-range SoC.

  • Showing USD 118.99 for me.
But USB Type-C turns me off. I don't really care about the speed but want to use the micro USB charge point all over the house.
I am use Voda and Optus, how bad is "no band 28"?

    • Adaptors from micro to C are pennies at gearbest, banggood, etc. It is nice not having to flip cables or phones to plug them in. My 2 cents. No 28, not sure, I'm guessing it really depends where you live, I have 28,and it's still rubbish reception where I am, (kogan), better on optus (amaysim).

      • +1

Kogan is on Vodafone, and Vodafone is not on band 28 (700MHz) until April next year.

        • Ah, that helps to explain why Vodafone reception is pretty poor out of the city then. Cheers!

    • +2

Gotta make that USB-C change at some stage.

  • is 2nd sim 3g or 2g

    • LOL.
My Dual SIM phone only supports one 3G SIM card. With all the Telcos shuting down the 2G service my phone is now literally single SIM.

      • My asus zenfone selfie is only 2g second sim ok when im in Philippines no good here but my xiaomi note 4x is 3g second sim just wondering if second sim on this phone is 2g or 3g.

  • I bought this phone in Feb this year as a replacement after my main phone died. I was intended to use it for 6 months until I found a better to buy. As of today, I am still using this phone after 10 month because I still havnt find a phone I am impressed in the market atm.

    Postive:
It is a great phone for that price. The performance is smooth (no lagging) and doesn't get over heat like my other phones that I ever owned (Iphone, Galaxy and Sony).
Camera is okay, of coz not the best camera out there.
It got fingerprint technology (which i never really use anyway) - unless for taking photo.

    Negative:
I would recommend to get 32GB storage because you don't get to put in a SD card and it full up pretty quick.
The battery also run out very quick probably have to charge it at least once per day.
The Bluetooth seem to be not working property, have difficultly to connecting to devices.
The USB cable died after few months, but I bought a PISEN USB C type cable off ebay for few buck and it working great.

Overall, I think it is great for light user or as replacement/spare phone.

  • NFC?

  • It looks like this phone is much advance and cheaper than this deal… isn't it???

    https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_685215.html?wid=11

    • Helio X20 Deca Core

For some people that's a turn off already.

      • Limited custom ROM support. Can already get MIUI 9 or Lineage OS on the Le 2 SD variants.

    • Medtek hardly ever release source code , I would never touch one of their SOCs ever again

  • BTW is the deal over? Comes up as $118 USD for me?

  • Found the correct link , bought one thanks. Did you guys who own them apply a glass screen protector?

  • Has anyone received this? Ordered one using Australia Direct Line (5-8 Business Days) but tracking shows it’s still in HK.
