  • This looks pretty good, anyone getting it?

It's fine, but the specs on this is outdated by 2 years

      • Agree. I can't tell if this is a good deal or not. It doesn't look like a XPS, or latitude. Is it an Inspirion?

Looks like you could've picked up a similarly priced, and arguably better spec'd version for $150 more last year from Microsoft.

        • @ToastySteve:

          Nope.

It doesn't have dedicated GPU, such as the 960m is in this laptop. Also the CPU was a i7-6500U not the i7 6700HQ in this deal, the difference there is 2 cores (4 threads), 2MB cache and 100mhz, a significant difference in performance.

The laptop above can do some reasonable gaming, while the one you linked is an ultra portable.

        • Specs wise is a great deal for the price, I do not know about the quality of the build though.

        • @FabMan: Fair points. I should've had a better look. You're still losing your SSD to a pretty shitty hybrid though.
The reason I don't think it's a great deal is that this is a gaming laptop… With a 960M.. You're already paying 1k, if you want to game on a laptop, you're better off spending $500 more and getting something that'll play games in a years time.

        • @ToastySteve: Yeah, scrimshaw linked one below I upvoted because I think it is a better gaming machine and it only costs an additional $280.

I'd personally go for Lenovo E570p because of Kaby Lake i7 + Pascal graphics but that's an increase of roughly $280 dollars

This might be ok for people who don't mind slightly older specs. Trackpad on Dell 7559 is known to be not very good however and linus calls the touchpad more of a 'presspad' for it's wobblyness and lack of touch sensitivity.

Linus reviews it and gave it overall thumbs up. Do take note this review is old.

      • Have you seen the Xiaomi Mi notebook Pro? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I'd also suggest the E570p the price increase is justified having specs that are 2year newer with and with the 8th gen hitting mainstream soon the price of 7th could be very close to this come Xmas time. Plus this coming from the US could be a hassle

  • Here i thought it was a alienware at that price but some unknown Dell. At least has 2 heat sinks which most dont do. Worth if you want new

  • I have the i7 1080p version of this laptop, the trackpad isnt as bad as people were making it out to be. mine works great
the bulid material isn't the best, the small plastic bits covering the exhaust heatpipes are pretty weak, when it comes to performance. this laptop is a beast the only letdown is the GTX 960m which is equivalent to a Desktop GTX 750ti, pretty good performance but cant handle current AAA titles at high settings such as rise of the tomb raider or battlefield 1

The stock hybrid drive sucks a lot, better to use a m.2 SATA SSD and a standard 2.5 hdd

I used to have one of these Inspiron 15 7000 (7559) aka "gaming series". It's decent but quite old now having had two revisions since then. If you google reviews for best gaming laptops under $1000 (USD) from early 2016 you'll see great reviews from Linus, Dave2D and MobileTechReviews praising decent specs and ease of upgrades (they usually reviewed the i5 model with the 1080p screen). I personally bought the upgraded 4K IPS with i7 model, added a Samsung 850 Evo m2 (as SSHD is really not that special) and another stick of ram to make it 16GB. Decent laptop with good build quality (not too heavy but not as light as an ultra book obviously) and looked good (not glaringly gamer) but given it's age and 9 series graphics cards, I would suggest spending a tad more on a newer 1050Ti based laptop.
