this is newer but like less specced than the frontier edition and more expensive…

    • the key word is newer. that's why, never buy something that just released. full stop. something new they charge whatever they want to cover their research costs because they know some people will just pay them anyway

    • It is actually less expensive when you compare the Australian version of the S3 Frontier and the Sport. I think the international versions cant use Samsung Pay?

Using the same deal with Samsung pay and ANZ the s3 frontier comes down to $360. I bought it at this price about 2 months ago

        • Same here, added a matching hoco strap and couldn't be happier with it.

      • the frontier was available for $350 via the samsung pay app

  • They have the same memory and processor. Sport has a smaller battery and no LTE but is smaller, lighter and more durable (water resistance and MIL-STD-810).

    Comparison : https://www.sammobile.com/2017/08/31/gear-s3-frontier-vs-gea…

    • Australian spec S3 has no LTE functionality either (your link appears to be comparing the US versions).
If you intend to use if for Samsung Pay, the S3 is superior, since it includes MST.
(It's quite funny the number of places that tell me I can't use my watch to pay, and I then proceed to prove them wrong thanks to MST)

      • I didnt even realise eft terminals still did the swipe 😓

        • Yeah, Australia has a lot of "tap" systems, but AmEx for instance, is still "swipe" in quite a few places.
If you travel, there are quite a few counties where "swipe" is still far more common than "tap"…

The other major difference, that nobody seems to be mentioning, is that the Gear Sport seems to lack the speakerphone functionality of the S3 series. I actually find it quite useful to be able to "answer the phone" and speak to someone without taking the actual phone out of my pocket. It's not as good as the call quality of actually talking on the phone, but I have used it walking down city streets with traffic nearby, and it still works well enough that you can have a conversation.
It's also good for speaking map directions, etc.

        • @oz-dave: I can't find any confirmation it doesnt have a speaker - some articles say it does, but some youtube comments say it doesn't.

Omg $500 for a watch that looks like the one that I can get from a $2 shop.
