Question about Buying Some Jaybird X3's

hi so i'm after a pair of jaybird x3's (considering beatsX or bose soundsport if people have used and liked them more) and wanted to know if anyone has bought a pair and had to return them for any kind of fault. My initial plan was to buy from jbhifi ($199) but after searching online i could buy from eGlobal for $107 but i'm really scared of the warranty claim process associated with these overseas companies. Should i buy from jbhifi or eGlobal? thanks

  • I have Jaybird X3's. I previously had a pair of Jabra Rox Wireless which were awesome, but i went through 2 pairs within 2 years….luckily for warranty. This time around, i was waiting for BT5 True Wireless ones to come out, but the second pair of Jabra's died unexpectedly, and the current BT4.2 true wireless aren't that great due to latency…for me anyway.

I narrowed it down to BeatsX and Jaybird X3's. BeatsX were surprisingly good and charges via Lightning cable which is good if you are an iphone user. I actually convinced my mate to get the BeatsX because he's an iphone user and he loves it. I ended up getting the Jaybird X3's because they have been so good for so long. I use the carbon foam earbuds supplied, and a custom-tuned equaliser through the Jaybird app. I believe the BeatsX only has the default equaliser so you cant tune it. The app is cool. unlike my Jabra Rox Wireless, the custom-tuning works outside of the app, whereas the Jabra equaliser only worked within the Jabra Dolby Sound app.

I bought mine from JB for a bloody good price. eGlobal is obviously a grey imports. i think including delivery, they came to about $130 or around that.

    • how much did you end up getting the jaybirds for?

      • I went in with the mindset of paying around 179 if i could, When i was in the queue, a mate (who i didnt know worked there) yelled out and gave it to me for $135…so ye even though i ended up paying a really good price for very good headphones, i would have happily paid more for ease of service. I also got the 2-year extended warranty which he also discounted to virtually nothing…thats a full replacement warranty. Hopefully by the end of it's life, the BT5's are into their 2nd gen and are cheaper and amazing.

$107 grey vs $199 local. I would go for the grey. Even if they break you can buy another pair and only be $15 worse off than if you went to JB. Not too much risk.

      • about $20ish delivery…you can definately talk the price down to the JB cats.
  • Usual price for Jaybird X3's is $149 rather than $199.

In order to answer your question let us suppose that every grey import item is 25% less than the local price.

    Now imagine two scenarios:

    1. Every time you buy a low value item such as a mobile phone you buy local. If an item breaks you replace it under warranty.

    2. Every time you buy a low value item such as a mobile phone you buy grey import. If an item breaks you buy a new replacement.

Now ask yourself: in the past, how often a low value item such as a mobile phone required using a warranty?

If you're like me the answer is almost never. The cost of replacing something that breaks - one item ever in my case - is tiny compared to handing over money to local retailers every time I buy one of these items.

Therefore it's foolish for me to buy anything but grey import whenever I can.

Warranties are something I never use, what is the point of paying for it?

  • I've been thinking through the same thing.

$189 from JB (staff offered a $10 discount)
$128 from eGlobal (shipping is $19 minimum)

    Price difference - $61

Unlike the previous poster, warranties are something I frequently use. 3 of my last mobile phones have had minor issues that I've had fixed under warranty. My current phone has minor issues that I can't get fixed because I bought grey.

The Xiaomi bluetooth in ear headphones I bought developed a fault after a few months but I can't get them replaced. Almost all in ear headphones I've owned have had problems within 6-24 months. It's nice being able to walk into a shop with broken headphones and walk out with a new pair for free.

But, the Jaybird warranty is only for 1 year. Is that worth $61? Perhaps not.

    • Same here, been looking around recently.

Currently I'm considering buying from JB Hi-Fi next time they're on sale (they seem to be discounted to $149 every other month) and will probably pay for the extra two years additional replacement warranty (I think it was around $10).

I've had pretty poor experiences with wireless speakers and headphones as well, considering the use of these they will be getting wet/sweaty/dropped/thrown around etc I'd say it's pretty likely they'll break within the three years. For the extra $30-$50 it will be nice just to have the peace of mind that they're covered for three years.

  • hey so i got my jaybirdx3 earlier this year and i love them. mainly use them at the gym and loving the wings that stick inside the ear and really like how discreet they look. the only annoying thing i wanna pick is that the little nub thing that sits inside your ear canals kinda comes a bit loose from the earpiece itself (almost lost it) but the box comes with a few sizes for ear nubs so it's not a huge issue. The idea of customising the equaliser sounds like a good idea but tbh i dont even use it much haha battery life is good :)

i got mine for around 150$ in store at JB's but im not sure how low they go now as the prices seem to have dropped a bit online. happy to send you a copy of the receipt if you want to use it for price match in store.

    • yes please! would you happen to know a way to check the historically lowest price for these?

      • nah tbh this was earlier in the year like march? but you can just type in jaybirds on the search bar and itll come up with all the past deals!
