Coles Docket: $12 Fat/Wild/Lazy Yak 6 Pack (345ml), $15 Strongbow Cider (10 X 375ml Cans) @ Liquorland

630

I don't usually find anything decent on these dockets any more.
However I think $12 for a 6 pack of Fat Yak (any variety) is good, especially for the convenience of Coles Liquor and LiquorLand.
Docket says excludes Northern WA & NT.

  • Agree.

Good deals few and far between on these "shop a dockets" ( some two for one deals on wine at Dans can still be ok ).

This is a nice deal, good beer if you like this style, and $12 for 6 pack is great. Bring on summer :-)

  • +3

Same here. Usually crap like Corona on the receipts.

    • -1

Mate, you can hardly even get Corona on the receipts! Usually far worse.

I use the dockets to pick up cheap ciders, they'll often roll a decent one in there between the strongbow and pure blonde cider offers!

      • Last promo was Corona for $12 for 6.

        • Yeah but before that it was at least 4 months I reckon between the offer. Given strongbow is on the docket every second week, i'd say it is fairly rare.

I think they upped the Corona deal to be $12 for a 6 pack too, awhile back I think it was $10.

6 pack of Estrella Damm for $10 was unbelievable value. Wish I had stocked up, fantastic beer.

        • Yeah that was a great deal, got it at least three times

        • Careful…the 'craft beer' snob might hear you ;)

      • I got a Corona one just this weekend on my WW receipt.

  • +4

disagree. the estrella damm 6x packs for $10 that just ended were a steal…. ;)
also ive been buying carlsberg 6x packs for $10 for most of the year!
…will grab a couple of these during the week i reckon seeing were getting some beer weather in melbourne :D

Estella and Carlsberg are just generic mass produced lagers

      • for a tenner sure beats drinking local "generic mass produced lagers"

        estrella tasting notes:
330 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 8/2016. Pours slightly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Touch of yeast fruitiness, but not overdone. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderate crisp, and bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is a nice pale lager style. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful for the ABV. Nice hop presence for a Euro lager; with plenty of pilsner malt flavor too, aside from the adjunct notes. A nicely enjoyable offering.

        see i can beer snob too…. :P

    • Sipping a beer in this weather while selling furniture in foot-a-scray is win. Amazing work Franco.

Also isn't there only one Fat Yak beer? Aren't the other ones called Lazy Yak etc etc?

    • +1

      Yep

    • +2

      have a docket here…it states:

"Matilda Bay Yak Bottle varieties"…..so all 3x yak varieties are up for grabs ;)

…maybe the OP should update to reflect that its not only "fat yak" up for grabs?

    • Can verify its for all varieties, so far I've bought the fat and lazy. Only reason I haven't picked up the wild (pacific yak) is I'm just not a fan.
My local liquorland operator is great, giving the docket back so I can 'hit him up again for them'.

      • I'm not a fan of yak either, but the wild I thought was by far the best of them.

        • +1

Probably why you enjoyed the wild then if you're not a yak fan, as it's definitely the most different of the three.
Hence why I wasn't a fan of the Wild.

  • +1

It’s actually on the whole Matilda Bay beer range; Yak, Ruby Tuesday, and Beez Neez. The last 2 were added to clear through stock, so not all stores will have them.

Corona 6pks and Pure Blonde cider 6pks are back on the dockets as of next Wednesday.

really…? havent had beez neez in ages. awesome.

edit: oops. double post…currently imbibing ;)

      • Edit: Actually, it may be Minimum Chips instead. The sales person did tell me it was one of them. I haven’t seen the beez neez at most liquorland stores, but if you find it, it should still work

    • beez neez is fantastic. Much nicer than Fat Yak IMO, haven't tried the Ruby Tuesday though

  • So I have to have a docket to utilise this bargain?

    • Yes, the coupon will be on the bottom of your coles receipt.

  • -1

Fat Yak, yum, will definitely get some, works out 48 a slab, but you don't need to buy a slab, so great value.

  • Eh, Fat Yak is owned by ABI

    • Care to shed some light on why that is 'Eh'?
Fat and lazy are some of my favourite mass produced craft beer, along with most of the mountain goat and two birds range. Yak just a lot cheaper.

      • +1

Why would you throw a small independent brewery like Two Birds in with Mountain Goat and Matilda Bay?

On the bigger question, some people like to support the independents and some people don't care either way. ABI are aggressively pushing into Australia right now with Goose Island, taking taps that used to go to smaller breweries. It does have an effect so it's worth considering if you care about the survival of breweries like Two Birds.

        • I didn't throw them together, I just said the yak range are mass produced, but still up there with some if my favourites.
Just because it's mass produced and owned by a conglomerate doesn't inherently make it bad.

I also love some holgate varieties, and will drink it if on tap over others but in the end I am just a consumer that when given limited choice, just want to get my drink on.

        • @linton:

Fair enough. I thought you were saying they were all "mass produced craft beer" but you weren't.

And I agree that "owned by a conglomerate doesn't inherently make it bad". I think Asahi has done a reasonable job running Mountain Goat. ABI and Kirin on the other hand both have strategies of locking venues into tap contracts so smaller breweries can't sell their beer there. A practice that is illegal in other countries like the US (and should be here too). ABI have recently started to do it in venues that were traditional craft beer specialists around Melbourne. So of the four brands you mentioned only one is deliberately trying to harm smaller breweries. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, I'm just saying that I think that ABI are bad for the craft beer scene in Australia, and I love Two Birds and Holgate (Road Trip FTW) too ;)

        • @dazweeja:

          Millennium falcon ftw! Haha

Red duck also create a couple of nice lines too.
I enjoy the smaller boutique pubs that have guest taps etc, which is where I usually discover the lines that wouldn't usually get a look in, which normally leads to me trying to track it down in Dan Murphys to drink at home.

It is interesting regarding ABI though and something I wasn't aware of.

        • +1

          @linton:

If you're near Melbourne, you might want to check out Brewers Feast beer festival at the start of December at Abbotsford Convent. Decent line-up of brewers including Holgate, Pirate Life, etc. I went last year and it was good - nice location, good size, not too crowded.

      • For me, giant corporate beer either needs to be good stuff for $12, or cheaper than $12 for low entry tier.

        • Thanks to the government alcohol tax, $12 for full strength that doesn't taste like dishwater is cheap, let alone a 'craft' beer.
Hell, even a slab of Carlton dry is rare to find under $40, or $15 a 6er.

    • Yeah, they haven't been independently owned for 27 years now. Not as shocking as Coke buying Feral though!

      • Not great, but there's so much choice in the craft beer market at the moment that it's far from the end of the world.

If Modus Operandi or Pirate Life decide to sell up I'll be a little more upset though.

  • $1.50 per Strongbow? I've only had the bottles before but sounds good enough to me!

  • Just a heads up, if you use the docket deal you can get the other $10 deals that you normally have to spend $30 to get. So I usually end up with two decent 6 packs for $20.

  • My local also have Monteiths pointers pale ale 6pk for $10 .Guy serving said no docket required & on sale till tomorrow , usually costs $22 i think he said ,no idea what it tastes like but assume it's nationwide if anyone is interested.

    • Not a big fan of their cider, but that's a different kettle of fish.

  • +1

…can confirm its only the yak varieties and not the whole Matilda bay range,..bought some yesterday and asked the manager at my local

  • Looks like this is expiring on the 26th unfortunately. New /current dockets are for coronas again
