Looking for Genuine Copy of Microsoft Office 2010

i am looking for a new genuine copy of microsoft office 2010 home and business.
i have an existing laptop that has genuine copy on it and have purchased a new laptop and want to buy the same version so i can load the .pst file and have all of my old emails and contacts on the new laptop.
I can find plenty of places selling it but have no confidence in if they are genuine or not.
all the ones i have contacted have said the download comes from their server not microsoft, i have very little knowledge in this area but this doesnt make me feel any more comfortable than buying a $5 version from Indonesia and hoping that it doesnt have nastys with it.
yes i know its old but from what i have read online if i buy a newer version 2013 or 2016 the .pst file is a no go.
If anyone can confirm and explain how i can buy 2016 and keep all of my old emails and contacts i would be happy to buy 2016.
also on the wish list is i want to purchase a one off cost not a recurring fee like office 365 as i have never needed to keep up to date office software and would prefer to spend that money on important things like beer.

thanks in advance

PST files from 2010 are compatible with 2013 and 2016.

They probably meant the autocomplete contacts that are stored in an NK2 file which later versions don't use. It's still possible to import an NK2 file however.

    • You can use NK2Edit (Free tool) to load the Stream_AutoComplete DAT file from Office 2010 (or NK2 file from Office 2003/2007) and then export to message store of 2013/2016 PST through the File menu.

Yup. Or even outlook.exe /importnk2 to load the NK2 into later versions.

  • I haven't tried this but Google tells me that previous version of office can be downloaded from https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/office

If you don't know your office serial number, you can get it back using https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/.

  • yes i know its old but from what i have read online if i buy a newer version 2013 or 2016 the .pst file is a no go.

Outlook 2013/2016 will accept PST from any previous version and will upgrade them to support the new features. Just don't close out of Outlook while it says it's upgrading the file down in the status bar.

yes but that would be reusing the existing key and i dont believe that is legal,
    thanks anyway sly

    • Pretty sure it’s legal if you uninstall it from your old laptop.

You could also grab the o365 trial and see if you can load the .pst file…

      • yes but not prepared to remove off old laptop and as stated above no interest in 365 due to ongoing fees

        • I don’t think you can legally buy 2016 anymore. MS have really cracked down on people buying cheap copies by making you buy office 365

According to this page that interprets the Office EULA, a retail copy of Office can be installed on both a desktop and laptop for your own use.

    • There is no problem in transferring your licence from one machine to another. You've bought the licence that (typically) allows you to use the software on one PC. There is nothing to prevent you moving that licence from one to another.

To be technically in compliance with the law you would then need to uninstall the software from your previous machine.

    • It is legal to re-use the key if you remove it from the original machine. If you have too many activations and you ring the microsoft automated activation hotline it will get you to enter the product key then it will say it has reached the max number of activations. It then asks if you are moving the software to a new PC and have removed it from the old one press 1 and then when you do it gives you the activation confirmation number to type in :)

  • thanks for the comments, i have purchased 2016 since i can keep all emails and contacts

  • Please check if your work places are eligible for HUP.

$15 for MS Office Professional is probably one of the best bargains I have ever seen.

    • Or even the workaround that cwongtech talked about is still working I think.
