Many people have recommend to buy a $2 sim and get the balance transferred

The fast method is to just buy a SIM and have (force) them honour the deal and give you a free recharge rather than credit transfer (which takes days to complete).

the offshore optus support team knows nothing about your issue and they simply follow a script just like robots. Just say: you've been through the process already and you want the SIM working now rather than later. Their next alternative is to just give you the SIM recharge right away (15 to 60 minutes)

In my experience, as well as others, no matter what methods you try they will not apply credit correctly. Called eight times over the last three weeks yet no solution. In fact in a preposterous twist they wrongly tried to credit a $40 recharge, giving 6 gig, erasing any history of it being a $30 SIM that in fact is meant to have 14 gig.

Buy at your own risk. It's worth using PayPal as it's far easier to raise a dispute compared to credit card charge back.

i find that Optus mobile (with calls) sim are fairly easy to activate. You can make calls/use data within 5 minutes of activation.
My experience with Optus mobile broadband differ alot.

When calling optus select the option to talk to tech support, at least they have half an idea of what they are doing

    • +2

Indeed, a painful experience to learn. However it seems the real lesson is to not assume you can get what you paid for here, whether it's bonus data or even a valid SIM, and despite any effort to rectify this you still may get stooged.

Even when you do get to speak to someone from tech support it's not guarantee that your sim will be activated correctly. I have tried on 3 occasions and when my sim was activated there was no credit on it. When I called back they refused to send out a replacement sim and luckily on two events I recorded the call details. If I haven't I would have lost my money. I will never buy an Optus prepaid sim ever again and do not recommend them to family or friends.

Why is North Korea an inclusion in the unlimited international list? Shouldn't it be South Korea? I checked the optus site, and it does indeed say North Korea.

Good deal if you are calling the supreme leader daily for updates lol

I did just notice that the country is listed after Singapore, so it's definitely a mistake. So funny though!

You sound like you have a personal disapproval of North Korean people. Are you shocked North Korean people could have relations with people in oz? Are you brainwashed perhaps? Propaganda agent?

  • +1

    what !?… no negging?

  • This might sound like a stupid question, but if we buy this SIM plan, do we recharge by paying $10 for the following months. Or is it only for the first month and then we recharge by paying $40?

    • You can recharge for $10, $30 or $40..

    • +2

You are not buying a plan. You're buying a starter kit (worth $40, and normally costs $40) which you can activate on one of the 3 plans: 'ultimate plus', 'daily plus' and 'long expiry'.
You pay $10 for this starter kit only. When you need to recharge, you'll have to pay whatever price Optus sets at the time you recharge.

  • Can someone help me to understand this part please?
As the offer mentions the SIM starter kit "$10 Offer ends 17th Oct 17.", would that mean either of the 3 SIM starter plans need to be activated by the 17th? Or can I purchase it for a $10 activation later in the year?

    • It means the discounted price ends on that date. Normal price after then. You have $40 credit for $10 if you purchase before then.

      • so i can activate any time between ?

        • +1

Usually there's an expiry on the pack to activate by.

      • Thanks! And bummer… I was hoping to grab some for overseas visitors during Christmas.

        • If you look in the "nitty gritty" at the bottom of the offer page there is this, "SIM Card Activation: Must be redeemed by 28/01/18 in order to receive these offers." I'd be confident that the offer is good until then, try chat to confirm..

This is absolutely a deal for people who frequently call to North Korea !

  • +1

as above comment buyer beware spent over the last week trying to get a replacement sim working, first one wouldn't not register, they give you the run around between getting a new sim from Optus shop after you get the sim the optus shop cant help then back to chat telling me lies wont honor the offer, just a night mare

  • I just activated an Optus sim this morning from a previous deal. I ported my number over from Vodafone. Took about 10 min for the whole process to complete. I guess I may of got lucky….

  • +2

Not worth the trouble. Walk away.

  • Unless you are willing to literally walk in store and get them to try, it's not worth the bother.
I was semi-lucky in the way it only took 1 1/2 hours in store to get it activated. But that's still not really acceptable.

    • I went to to store twice. They couldn't do it and didn't want to know about it since it was bought from the Optus online store.

  • +1

had painful experience porting from OVO to optus yesterday, waiting a couple of hours then called them, they called OVO while i was on hold 5 mins later port was done, colleague tried today and had no issue.

just bought this one had issues paying with paypal - failed twice then payed via credit card and went straight through.

  • +1

10 days of trying to port over to Optus. Been in store and over phone support. 10 days of no one being able to contact me, or being able to call out. Can't even cancel and go to Telstra as it isn't officially active by Optus. DO NOT BUY!

  • +2

Avoid unless are desperate for those international calls and willing to waste hours of time getting it up and running. Even then, you probably won't get what you are promised.

  • Did a Paypal dispute. Optus not even responding. They have no interest in resolving any issues. Hope they go down real good.
