Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer = $464 USD Shipped

280

I posted this link in the previous Kitchenaid thread but others seem to think it's worth posting as it's own deal so I will.

It's a US based company however they export the 220 volt model so it works perfect over here.
I ordered one a few weeks ago and shipping took about 4 days and they even threw in an Aussie plug adapter.

Couldn't be happier. Massive saving off the local price.

Note: The site says sale ends Monday at midnight however it has said that ever since I ordered one several weeks ago so you can pretty much ignore it.

Great price but the risk is that if you face any problems with it, you won't be covered by KA Australia.

    • Yep. that's the first thing I thought of when I saw this. Sent them an email they came back with the below.

OP, can you let us know what the actual product is like?

Warranty is 1 year parts from us. No warranty from Kitchenaid AU.

      Thanks,

      • Actual product is very good.
Arrived in perfect condition and very good packaging which was obviously handled with a lot of care by DHL. (Hence the large shipping price I guess.)
The actual item is no different to the ones in shops and I'm stoked with it. Works very well.

    • Also requires a down voltage inverter not just an adapter.

      • Not true.
As stated in the post this is the European 220/240 volt model which will work perfectly in Australia with no voltage conversion. (Just need an adapter which they include.)

these are the ones appliance surplus grey import and change the plug to an aussie one.

  • They also have the Champion juicer at a great price - costs more than $600 to get one here.

People will continue buying most things overseas until local distributor stop ripping people off with their price gouging practice.
    Excellent price, +1 from me.

    • I wish that'd happen with these KA machines but I read somewhere (at Kitchenware Direct I think) that there'd be a scheduled price increase in Nov. Very greedy - they already had an increase last yr!

    • Part of the difference is because when it is sold locally there is also a GST component to the price. But I agree, things here are more expensive and that is partly because we are willing to pay more.

    I bought one for Mother's Day back in 2005 @ AU$600.
Now its $660 everywhere so this is a great bargain.
No problems with it and still look as good as new.

Everything in Australia costs about 30+% more here. Which is why i usually buy things overseas if i don't need it urgently.

Once things aren't that majorly inflated, I will start supporting Australia. But for now I shall support other countries.

  • I saw the words "asian, kitchen and maid" in the title. Damn need to get my eyes checked..

While it's true everything here does tend to cost more, I hate to be too critical when you think of the economies of scale. Less people = less market = higher price is necessary.
Also, places like America tend to have a LOT more competition, which is always good.

Regardless, I'd say there is still definite room for Aussie stores to lower their prices to reflect the dollar.

  • Any idea how warranty works for these overseas purchased mixers when there is a problem?

    • I looked at getting one from these guys. Warranty wasn't mentioned on their site so I emailed. They said 12 months and that they'll provide parts if you pay for shipping. Then you also have to find someone who fixes them, and then pay them to install the parts I guess? Seemed a little dodgy on the warranty side of things.

So I ended up getting one from DJ's for about $540 I think, they had a sale, plus a family member works there so they got a further discount.

      • $540 is a great price locally.

That was the same response I received when I asked about warranty.
To me, the cost saving is worth the risk of it breaking.
If it does break, then the money I saved can be spent repairing it so I'll probably come out even.

  • Great price plus the offer of parts guarantee for a year.
No reason to pay the exorbitant prices here.

  • Very tempted by this! Make for a great xmas present and mega brownie points from the missus.

    Awesome :-)

  • On the differences in prices, this is what a friend who worked for a Kitchen Aid retailer in Australia said.

In the US, they've had a massive reduction in purchases. The result is that they are overstocked, with items sitting in storage going nowhere. So in the US, they are dropping prices on the Kitchen Aids.

Over here, purchasing is around the same as usual (that was half a year ago) so we don't have an excess of stock.

So, it's not that there's price gouging or other things that people have mentioned.

But that due to the internet and international shipping we are able to deal with US sellers who are more desperate to clear excess stocks.

I was looking at an item myself (not KitchenAid) that was going for $17 USD on sale that is $58 AUD here.

I'm not familiar with mail forwarders though and I think someone said on the forums unless you're saving $100 AUD then don't bother looking into mail forwarding.

  • I own both the Kitchenain Mixer, blender and also frying pan.

    No problems 5 years on.
Not saying American appliances are good, just that Kitchenaid has really surpassed my expectations.
