Looking to Buy a 32GB RAM (16 X2) and a Good Decent M.2 SSD

As tittle, do you guys have any recommendation for a Desktop Ram 16 x 2 and a decent M.2 SSD 512GB minimum that wont break the bank?
Thank you.

Edit: I am running AMD Ryzen(TM) 5 1600X Processor, AMD Radeon RX 570 with 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Memory, motherboard Dell Inc. 07PR60 (AM4) and I am looking for DDR4.

  • you didn't mention if it was DDR4 or DDR3, and what system you'll be using it on. Different motherboards support different RAM speeds, and the current AMD AM4 platform is particularly picky about RAM.

Buy the wrong one and you may have trouble getting the system to even boot when running the RAM past 2400mhz speed.

    • DDR4 and my Motherboard is Dell Inc. 07PR60 (AM4)

      • Alright, so it looks like you've got the Dell Inspiron 5675… and your motherboard only has x2 slots for RAM.
I think as far as gaming+streaming is concerned, you should be fine with 2x 8GB (16GB) setup.

If you need more, you are definitely going to have to break the bank.
In such case, you should look into a transplant… ie putting your system into a new system.
I suggest just grabbing a decent B350 motherboard and using that instead. Then selling the old one.

However, if you want to go for a fresh transplant, then you should:
        - buy a Phanteks P400S Case
        - buy a AM4-B350 Motherboard
        - buy a RGB-Fully Modular 700W PSU
        - buy a 4x 8GB DDR4-3200
        - buy a 1TB WD Blue3D SSD
        - buy a Ryzen r3-1200 CPU
        - buy a AMD RX550 GPU
        - Have the new case, psu, motherboard, ram, ssd, plus your old cpu and gpu for yourself
        - Assemble the old case, old psu, motherboard, ram, hdd, plus your new r3-1200, and rx550 as a second unit
        - Try to sell the second unit for $$$ and recuperate lost funds.

        • Hi Kangal,

Yes, I have it from the deal on here couple of weeks ago. I do quite a lot of wedding photography and videography as well so as 16GB is a good starting point, I think 32GB (good price of course) will futureproof my RAM department. My work and my casual gaming is a bit of Ram and graphic demanding.
And how much can i sell the second unit for?

        • @gozyla86: Pl PM me if you'd be interested in giving away or selling the 8GB RAM that came with your system.

      • Do you know the make/model of the existing 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM? I will be looking to get another 8GB of the same.

    • With the specs I just said, is it wise to use above 2400 Mhz or just stick with 2400?

      • +1

It appears BIOS settings are locked by Dell so you should stick with 2400mhz.

Unless Dell releases a patch that unlocks the BIOS to expose memory speed settings (XMP profile), you don't gain any advantage from buying faster RAM and you risk buying something that won't let you boot.

        • Hi @scrimshaw, thank for your comments. I have another question regarding SSD m.2. There are a couple of different type like M key…or whatsoever, and then PCle….which one will be good for my desktop please? I don't know so I just gonna copy what you said and bring it to the store and buy it.

          Thank you

According the the 5675 reference guide/Setup and Specifications
          the SSD options are:
          * One M.2 drive (SATA)
          * One M.2 drive (PCIe/NVMe)

          and the capacity is:
          * Hard drive Up to 2 TB
          * SSD Up to 256 GB

Most importantly I am not sure why the SSD capacity is limited to 256 GB. I hope the limitation is not enforced by the locked BIOS somehow.

Considering that this is a budget system, I'd expect that they used a M.2 SATA SSD as M.2 PCIe/NVMe is newer faster and probably more expensive on average.

Can you read the model number from the SSD? That will tell us whether it is SATA or PCIe/NVMe.

samsung 960 pro are unbelievably cheap on futu

    • Replenishing flash stocks?
Or maybe a OEM discount to wholesalers?

… or maybe, a new model coming in for Xmas 2017 ?!?!?

    • Intel 600p is a fair chunk cheaper, though you sacrifice half your bandwidth. Depends on your use case and whether you care or not as to whether that's a fair tradeoff.

  • I'm glad I found this topic!

    I too bought the Dell RYZEN 5 1600X Gaming PC - RX570 4GB, 8GB DDR4 2400 128GB M.2 SSD + 1TB HDD and looking to upgrade RAM to 16GB and SSD to ~512GB. It looks like this is the Inspiron 5675 - a210781au PC.

I am still waiting for the PC to arrive. It would be good if you post updates as you upgrade your PC.
