  • Rep, please leave the title to explain what your actual deal is, not what you normally offer.

In this instance, 20% bonus earnings is the deal, the rest is what normally comes with the service.

  • I don't have a car but like the idea of borrowing a car…

    • Sure thing hell0, you can book a car for rent/borrow via the Carhood website

  • Can you please clarify the "list their vehicle by the end of October" part?

I'm traveling in December (have the dates already), can I list the car now to take advantage of this deal?

    • Hi cheaty, you must book your vehicle in by the last day of October. You can book for future dates (i.e. December in your case), that is not a problem :)

"Earn on average $10-15 a day sharing your car from the airport whilst you're away"

This literally sounds like the worst deal I have ever heard of.
$10 or $15 dollar a day to let a bunch of random assholes drive my car???
How much crack where you guys on when you came up with this idea?
Better question - how much crack would you need to be on to agree to rent your car out.

" what could possibly go wrong"

    • +2

Yes buy you dont have to pay airport parking either and your car is washed while your away.

      • +5

sure that's great except for a bunch of random assholes drive my car
        For $15 ha!

        • Thats correct, not only do you save on expensive Airport Parking fees, you make money and receive a free car wash inside & out.
I am not sure what you mean by a "bunch of random assholes". Most of our renters are travellers and the majority of them share their own vehicle out from the location they flew out of.
All vehicles are fully insured and underwritten by one of the largest insurers in Australia, along with manual security checks done on renters.
We have tens of thousands of people using the Carhood service, let alone the millions of others around the globe using similar peer to peer car sharing services and other peer to peer models.

As the saying goes you never lend your car or your girlfriend to strangers because both will come back thrashed!

OP if you want to run a car rental, how about you, oh I don't know… Invest in some actual cars
"Mate mate I have this killer idea: we will start a car rental. We don't need to spend a cent on stock. We market it as "sharing" and be all new-age. Sharing is caring, you know. All we need is a laptop and a contract. Insurance? Pffft What for? Get the cheapest possible - not our cars, not our risk."
The legal contract must be a really fun read.

    Great concept.
Questions the whole property / ownership resource hole issue.

What protection do you have from your being thrashed by an unknown driver?
Insurance would only cover obvious damage…

Well the negative reviews at Product Review are interesting in the classic Chinese sense

Good research and i couldnt believe all the bad reviews. I have to say its not worth the risk for the minimum amount of $ and the amount of hassle.

I think this is a cash-flow issue in that the business doesn't have the money to operate legitimately and are on too much of a shoestring budget to be able to fix issues that leave them with negative reviews.

We pride ourselves on providing great customer service as witnessed by our 4.1/5 star review rating (https://www.google.com.au/shopping/seller?q=carhood.com.au).
We are still a relatively new company and with all new companies come mistakes, however we continously strive to improve on our processes and service and learn from our mistakes.
The site images you have shown in the link is when we first moved into our Sydney site and were undertaking renovations at the time. Rest assured with our renovations almost complete, our premises looks very different to the images shown there.

But they don't cover mechanical issues in their insurance…so someone trashes out your clutch…sorry…not covered

    • Hi sn00ze, in my almost three years being at Carhood I have yet to come across a situation of mechanical damage caused by a renter. All vehicles are insured by one of the largest insurers in Australia, and all renters must have held their licence for an extended period time.
People don't rent a vehicle for the sole purpose of 'thrashing it', they rent it for their travel needs. We are very meticulous who we lend the vehicles out to, and perform unique proprieraty checks to ensure that vehicles are not being let out to any one. We do regularly reject renters that do not meet our criteria.

Great concept. Nice people to deal with

    • Thanks grandfather, we look forward to seeing you next time.

Wow. Almost every review on product review.com.au is 1 star. This ad should be taken down to avoid other people from experiencing same issues as people on product review.

  • +2

yep…this is just a bad idea…for both renters and car owners.
Renters…..go with the majors…the offsite location, time wasting and horror stories are just not worth it.
Car owners…Leave your car at home…get an uber to the airport and save yourself the heartache.

    • Hi adam,
We pride ourselves on providing great customer service as witnessed by our 4.1/5 star review rating (https://www.google.com.au/shopping/seller?q=carhood.com.au).
We are still a relatively new company and with all new companies come mistakes, however we continously strive to improve on our processes and services day in day out and learn from our mistakes.

  • Even though most reviews on the productreview.com.au site tend to be by people who have had bad experiences, seems that the sheer number of complaints, the management constantly blaming someone else and taking no responsibility for anything is too much to overlook.
BTW, a vehicle with a cracked head isn't unroadworthy. I know it fits neatly into your clauses so you don't need to pay that way, but tecnically it's incorrect and as a result you have prossibly defrauded these people along with others.
I travel on ocassion and the concept seemed enticing but what a huge downside risk for so little upside!
