Earphone Present for Friend's 18 Bday

Hello Ozbargain community; wondering if you guys could help me with some suggestions.

My friend is about to turn 18 this Sunday and I still haven't prepared him a present because I do nothing but procrastinate every day I'm not sure if it's a good choice at all. I know he wants some new earphones, and i'm willing to chuck $100 since it's a rather big bday for him, but i'm not sure what earphones are good at that price range. He's probably gonna wear them on the train to and from uni, so nothing too big or stands out cause our social life is a joke and we're both socially awkward, although that's probably just me and i'm lumping him in to make myself feel better.

If anyone has any suggestions for earphones, or any other presents a soon to be 18 year old would appreciate that doesn't require me spending a lot of effort please shout them this way.

    any earphone good to go but definitely not headphone esp those wrapped in black plastic bags and has to be carried overseas from some stranger. Regardless, just remember the passcode to unlock your phone no matter what so that you can show anyone your whatsapp messages as evident..if you're ended up like someone else recently. ;) bye

    Have you seen this poll? It lists some budget earphones for under $50.

      I have, but not too sure if $20 Xiaomi would be suitable for the occasion, considering that is voted that best.

    If he's planning on wearing them on the train, I would aim for noise-cancelling ones. They are a godsend on public transport …

    Could get a set of the KZ ZS5's and a Bluetooth upgrade cable.

    Could also get a more 'premium' silver-plated and braided upgrade cable for an extra ~$9 here.

    And perhaps buy something else if this seems a bit cheap.

    EDIT: Definitely won't come by this Sunday though…maybe in a month!

    If you can't be bothered the HIFIMAN Electronics Re-400 or the Philips Fidelio S2 are a great choice.

    it's birthday mate, don't get that xiaomi $20 hd pro… it won't last him a year, as many reported one side failing after 6 months use.

    get him a proper seinheiser ie80 that will last him for many years.

    Are any mates willing to chip in an extra $50- $100 each? If you have a few guys/girls in your group then you could get him something decent.

    Keep in mind if you'll have to go local if you want to hand him the present…

    Jumping on to this I am looking for a sub $50 Bluetooth or wireless earphones and headphones recommendations.. Will only be used at home or very rarely on the train but 90% usage in the house so no need really for noise cancellations just better everything else.. battery life etc.
