NBA League Pass 2017-2018: ~$93 AUD via Mexico VPN & Code PRESEASON10 ($299 Locally)

1160
PRESEASON10

I used Hola with Mexico VPN on my mobile (free!) to sign up, I even had an existing League Pass account which I linked this to - just sign in after selecting Mexico VPN, the annual package, and applying the code. Otherwise you can create a new account.

Code SAVE10 came in my email and is for the NBA China Games, valid until October 8

PRESEASON10 code came in my email, expiry is unknown, it says "Our discount will only be available for a limited time, don't miss out on this special offer!"

Note that the Mexican Peso has dropped a little since this deal was posted with the SAVE10 code, so it's now about $92.50

Credit also to the original Mexico VPN deal.

So to clarify….what do I need to do to get this…. Use a VPN everytime? Or just on sign up?

    • +2

VPN is only required for payment. I have used an Australian address and credit card before with no problem.

      • +10

So you only have to climb that wall for payment. This trumps previous deals.

    This is Juan good deal.

  • Can I watch NBA on apple tv? 95 per year looks fine for me.

    • Sure can, its the best way to watch it!

    • +1

I can't comment on Apple TV, but if you watch through a web browser on something like Windows or Mac (not mobile operating systems like iOS or Android), you get some extra handy features.

For example, if a game is still playing live, you can start watching from any point prior. That's the one feature I wish was available on mobile devices, and I assume Apple TV would be the same. Can't confirm though. There's also extra viewing options, and each quarter is separated to make it a bit easier to navigate.

    • +2

It's really good on Apple TV. Unfortunately not available on PS4 Australia (you'll need a US PSN account, another hassle)

      • I used a Canadian VPN last year and had issues with the PS4. Although xboxone's NBA app was different and I could use the Xbox to watch it. Now Xbox has updated their app to the same as the ps4's. I now have the Mexican league pass and I created a Mexican account and also changed the region of the consoles to Mexico and the both don't work!! Any ideas? I've search the net and can't find anything. It won't let me log in.. if it works on Apple TV maybe I should just get one of those? PC HDMI to tv is too much effort lol

        • Last year I created a Brazilian PS4 account and downloaded the NBA app from there, which worked with the international league pass, when the old Aus one and the new USA one did not work.

        • @BjornMorrison:
          1. Deleted the current NBA app i had on the ps4
          2. created a mexican PSN account
          3. logged into the mexican psn account on the console
          4. went into settings>account>made primary account for console
          5. downloaded NBA league pass app
          6. logged in and IT WORKED!!

happy days, thanks for your help, you encouraged me to persist after you said it works. Maybe its because I didn't download the mexican version of the app, I just used the current one i had already.

        • +1

@patchyz: Happy to hear it. I had no idea the Mexican one would work, but makes sense. For the record, last year I bought through Canada and used a Brazilian PSN account to download the app. Glad there's one more working option.

damn, signed up an hour before this post!

  • Can you share an account? Who wants to go halves?

    • You can but only 1 person can watch at a time

      • Hmmm, could be an issue I guess.

        • Multiple users seem to be hit and miss. I've shared accounts with friends (prior to the VPN pricing making the pricing palatable) - and in my experience it seems you can generally have multiple people watching at the same time as long as they use a different platform - ie I would be watching on AppleTV, while my friend would be using his laptop. Your mileage may vary though….

    • You CAN but you can't watch at the same time.. I think

  • This seems so easy, how have the NBA not caught on? Probs making too much to care about a couple of Aussies paying same price as local folk. Not like they're missing out though,so long as some currency lands in their humble bank account.

    • +1

It's interesting. @ $299, I would never buy it. @ $95 I would buy it. So do they want $95 kind of 'dodgy'or $0 legitimately?

      • Most ppl who's doing it this way, will never pay $299 anyway. So, instead of getting $0, they get $95. How is it a lost to NBA?

        • +1

The NBA don't care as they are getting more money from users they shouldn't be. It's the local content providers who pay NBA for the rights (in our case Foxtel owns exclusive rights to live NBA games) who are missing out and should (but won't police it).

That's how they can charge $30 a month for sports :(. (and why people are looking for alternatives like this)

    • +3

The NBA jerseys have sponsors now, I'm sure the Association and Lebron& Co don't mind us peasants paying a little less to watch them ball.

      • Really? When did this start? Its the only way I differentiated the NBA jerseys from NBL ones ;)

    • The marginal cost for NBA is zero. So 299 i wont buy, I can go qq live for free and there is ESPN signal. 95 dollar i am in

  • +2

My one automatically renewed from last years Canada deal, was overseas came back to a bunch of emails telling me its all done :(
Paid $130 AUD so still ok, but this is 'Juan' good deal!

    • My Canada one renewed at Aussie price last year and I did a paypal charge back as it was like $439 or something ridiculous!

  • This is a good dea.
I paid 108aud a couple of weeks ago also from mexico.

Only issue is that it does not work on a PS4.

    • +1

It does, you need to add a new PlayStation account with a US address. Then download the NBA Game Time app on the US account. Then log back in with your main Australian account and the app will now show up there.

      • Did the NBA fix the app though? Last year the Game Time app wouldn't even let me log in with my account details to watch matches, and the tech support people continued to 'promise' a fix before the end of the season, only for nothing to ever eventuate.

I can stream games through my RPi Kodi setup (though prone to buffering issues), but their total failure to fix up the PS4 app was a massive letdown given how great the previous version of the app was

        • I had same issue last year and after much frustration I found the solution. Sharing it again here so it will hopefully help others:

Last year I created a Brazilian PS4 account and downloaded the NBA app from there, which worked with the international league pass, when the old Aus one and the new USA one did not work.

        • I assume if I'm getting the Mexican Pass I'd have to set up a Mexican PSN account?

        • @punkindrublic: See above, in short, yes a Mexican PSN account works. I was assuming that the Brazilian one would work too, since last year I signed up through Canada. It's just the South American app that you're after, since it uses International League Pass credentials.

      • Not US account as that is only for local (US) league pass which has different logins.

Americas PSN account app will work; brazil, canada, mexico, argentina all work.

      • Still doesn’t work mate.
I even updates my ps4 app.
Does not even allow me to log in

        Any ideas guys?

        • All good now. Followed the steps as per above.

          Thanks guys!

  • So many games getting streamed on Youtube these days.. I'm tempted to not bother with League Pass this year…

    • +1

Although when you do need a stream you might not find one

    • Quite right though when it comes to the hyped marquee games and playoffs its hard to find a clean stream without the stutter or random shut down.

    • +3

Came in to post the same thing. Use Tunnelbear or a private VPN instead.

  • +1

    Worked! Thanks OP!

  • Are there blackouts with the mexico one? currently using India's one and so far hardly noticed any blackouts (except here and there). Looking to move to this one since this is much cheaper.

    • +2

No blackouts. The only "limitation" is you can't watch games using the international league pass whilst you're in (or connected via) the US

      • So do i need to be connected to VPN to use this then? And it's not like i'm gonna be in the US so i guess that means i'm fine right?

        • +1

no vpn (only signup) if on vpn in a blackout market you will have blackouts (USA, Canada)

        • @abuch47: Awesome, will be purchasing it in a few hours.

  • Which VPN service has a Mexico POP on a free tier/trial?

    • +3

Tunnelbear iOS application worked well for me

  • Great find OP. I'm using a VPN for Mexico but it only shows me $209 USD. I can also select AUD and a few other currencies but it never gets down to $95. Is there something else you have to do?

    • clear cookies and/or browser history

  • +1

Damn just subscribed last night to watch Kyrie+Hayward 😫

  • Just curious is it 720P on streaming?

    • Mine only has 720p, looks actually bad on my large screen TV

      • Are there anyways to improve resolution, or is everyone else watching 720p too? thanks

  • Just subscribed. Sweet deal. Never pay $299 if you can have it for $99. I used Hola VPN to register and paypal for payment.no issues.

    • +2

      Don't use Hola. See above.

    • Did you pay in mxn or did you change curreny to aus before payment?

      • Switch to aud.

  • I did this the other day for 110?

Not sure if this effects anyone else but a few years ago I signed up and found the live games to work perfectly but streamed replay games would always lag, now the streamed replays work as well.

  • Good deal and it works! Thanks OP

  • you just ripped off this thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330527

    • He did credit the original thread and there its is a better price, maybe the mods should merge the thread

  • Thanks OP.

Will let AM know tomorrow. LoL

  • Gracias amigo!

  • What resolution is this streaming at? Any 1080p / 4K options?

    • +1

      1080p 30fps upto 3000kbps.

  • Great find, thanks heaps! used nordvpn with 28degrees card and showing as costing AU$94.76. very happy

  • can someone please confirm if this does or doesn't include playoffs?

    • It does.

      • cheers thats a very good deal then

        • +1

Just before you head to payment it says:

NBA League pass: regular season + playoffs subscription

  • If paying by PayPal what's the best approach?

If choosing pesos as currency it comes to the $95 you reference - but you may get overseas conversion charges on most cards?

Alternatively you can choose Aussie dollars as currency on NBA order, but it will end up about $99.

Anyone used pesos - what happens in PayPal - charge you in pesos or does PayPal convert it for you (resulting in AUD on credit card?).

EDIT: All good folks - went ahead and paid in AUD. Really must get a 28degrees card some day.

My Mexican VPN not working at the moment. Couldn't I just sign up via the US Site??

    • -1

Oops. I must have hurt someones feelings…Sorry about that.

  • What a bargain! paid around 8300 yen I love it! even here in Japan its 22,000 yen which is around $260 aussie dollars.

  • +1

I forgot to cancel my Canada subscription, was on my to do list but forgot! Good deal!

  • Can you get 1080p streaming through this?

    • yes

  • +1

Does league pass have a Chromecast option?and is it good on bad connections, i watch optus sport fine on adsl2+

    • Yes you can cast via Chromecast or Apple TV as well.

  • Great deal!!! Saved us some serious $$ Thanks OP.

  • +1

So which VPN did you guys use? and what about the quality will it be 1080p?

    Cheers first time user here!

  • Dammit I just bought on Tuesday to watch Jazz vs Kings game for $109.99AUD, oh well still better than paying full price

    • Interesting choice.

      • +3

I support all of the NBA teams with Aussie players, especially when the other team is an NBL team. Good to see the NBL make that deal and help promote Australian basketball.

        • +3

You should keep an eye out for Ben Simmons
My god if his preseason debut was anything to go off, he’s going places

        • @tobi3421: Sixers definitely on the radar and Simmons for my fantasy team

    • +2

Thunder vs Melbourne United and Suns vs Bullets coming up!

      • +2

Carmelo, PG and Russ vs… I dunno…… Chris Goulding, Majok and David Andersen??? OUCH.
I'm a big fan of the NBL getting this opportunity though.

        • What are your thoughts now?

        • @Reveen:
absolutely stoked to say I'm eating my words. Brilliant effort.

  • anyone having any issues paying with Amex via paypal?

    • Amex via PayPal worked for me last night.

      • my amex card is new, i tried it last night, this morning and just now. bank and paypal blaming each other.
        hmm

  • Used nordvpn 3 day free trial here https://free.nordvpn.com and connected to Mexico server, selected to pay in Mexican pesos here https://watch.nba.com/packages and entered Mastercard (debit card) details including SAVE10 promo code and paid $1349.99MXN$ which was $94.52AUD :)

  • Used tunnel bear chrome extension to get to Mexico and paid $98.99 AUD through paypal onto Amex Card.

Haven't had league pass for a few years and last time I did it was pretty buffery. Hopefully that has improved.

  • I’m using Tunnel bear to browse from Mexico but the link still takes me to a page with AUD 299. Anyone else have this prob?
