NBA League Pass 2017-2018: ~$109AUD via Mexico VPN ($299 Locally)

1930

Its that time of year again…
NBA League Pass is open again for 2017-2018!

You can sign up locally for a pretty un-ozbargain $299, or you can sign up via a VPN to Brazil for ~$112.34

Regarding purchasing from India:

Have seen another forum site where people have signed up via India. Requires a VPN to be on whenever using the service though. Still no joy for me with the India League Pass sub via PayPal payment. No sub showing in League Pass account. Reckon something wrong there. Credit card seems the best payment method if other sites are anything to go by.

Update:
$109 via Mexico VPN. Thanks for everyone who pointed this out.

Only need to use the VPN at signup?

    • +3

Yep that's how's its worked in previous years

    • +4

Just so this is at the top. OP or Mod, can we edit the post to show Mexico is cheaper. Better than creating a new post. Its about $105AUD. But thanks so much OP. I bought under Brazil before I read all the comments and verified with PIA myself. Also, India is definitely only for use in India as it states that when you go to checkout. It would never be fast enough to stream through a VPN games, so lets just stick with Mexico and Brazil.

      • can anyone confirm that mexico definitely works?

  • Thanks buddy, seems cheaper than last years canada deal.

    Is this the cheapest one?

    • India is cheaper, but didn't work for someone on WhirlPool.

      Mexico is slightly cheaper

I received the auto-renewal email from the NBA today, saying I'd be getting 10% off the regular price. I subscribed from Canada last year, so the price this year was going to be CAD$130.49 (AU$133.08) for me.

I'll cancel the auto-subscription and go through Brazil this year. Thanks OP.

    • Did you cancel the auto-subscribe through paypal?

I paid through Paypal and used Canada (I think) last year when I signed up. I did email them, but had no luck canceling the auto renewal, I was told it couldn't be done? Weird, anyway I cancelled the auto renewal through Paypal - but still got the email. I'm hoping it's just a generic system generated thing.

      • +1

I paid with credit card last year.

I cancelled the subscription on the NBA site, under "my account>subscriptions". There's a new checkbox that you can untick to turn off auto-renewal. That's better and easier than last year, when I think you had to email neulion to cancel.

        • +2

          thanks for that!
Yeah, last year you had to email, and there are apparently two NBA teams, the US one and the International one (as far as I am aware).

I checked my Paypal just now and it says its been cancelled, so it should be ok

  • +4

Anyone else get an NBA email to auto renew for $130 Canadian on the 25th September?

    • +1

Got the email just today for $130 CAD

    • Me too

    • i got that too

    • Me too… but gonna cancel subscription and signup again with Mexico or Brazil

    • I can't remember getting it and my subscription renewed automatically (even though I remember un-checking it last time). Still better than $300aud (PayPal says it charged me $138.57AUD).

For $30, I can't be bothered stuffing around for a refund plus signing up again.

  • Does anyone know a free Chrome VPN that you can access Brazil?

    • +2

Try Hoxx, available in Chrome store.

I use it in Firefox to get around certain blocked websites in Aus. Works fine.

Has a Brazil server listing in Firefox, see no reason why it wouldn't in Chrome.

      • would you be able to access Netflix for other countries using the Chrome extension?

        • +1

I don't use Netflix so can't answer that sadly. My knowledge of Netflix though is that there's not many VPNs that can get around their system these days.

In addition, the free version of Hoxx has a daily data quota, so not really ideal for video streaming, best to go with a decent paid option if that's what you wanna do.

    • +3

Tunnel bear on chrome addons gives you free vpn to brazil for this sign up

      • gold - thank you

  • +4

FYI Mexico is $AUD using the built in conversion on the website. VPN to mexico, change currency and it should be $109.95 (at least it was last night when i did mine)

    • Any reason people are going for Brazil and not Mexico?

I was following the thread and saw your post this morning. Thanks for your help. You should have posted the deal first :)

      • +1

Probably because they are just following OP and not looking for a better price. In saying that im sure there is a cheaper country out there then mexico aswell

      • If NBA has regular season games in Mexico, is there any chance of NBA blackouts for those games ?

        • Very good question. Worthy of noting. I don't know the answer.

        • +4

Not unless your location is set via proxy/vpn to mehico. You only need this at signup so as long as you don't use blackout market locations during the season you will get every game.

        • +2

Nah its just an international league pass. It is the same as everyone getting through Canada last year.

  • +1

Anyone know how much the pass is for India? I signed up last year via India, but haven't got the auto-renew email yet. Trying to work out whether to cancel and re-subscribe or not

    • I got my auto-renewal email this morning. But it can't be right…

"Your NBA LEAGUE PASS: Regular Season + Playoffs subscription will renew for the 2017-18 season on September 25, 2017 with no action required by you to continue your access. The billing information on file will be charged 1169.99 INR - that's 10% off the regular price, available exclusively for you as a loyal customer."

AUD$23 for the year? Can't be right.

      • +1

That is the deal of the year if correct

        • +1

See above. Indian is region locked. Someone on WhirlPool tried.

        • @PainToad: No such warnings for me <shrug>

        • +1

Here is the warning that you get at checkout for me in india

        • +2

          @Superstar15: Australia tax = $279

        • @Reveen: No doubt, but i aint running a VPN everytime to india, which just goes to show the NBA must really be pushing for extra numbers in India this year

    • I just connected to my VPN to India. It says it's 999.99 rupees. Switching the currency on the page to AUD says $19.99.

      • It was mentioned in the other thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330340#comment-5091181 - that this only applies to India. What does it mention about that? At that price, I'm assuming it's only available to watch if you're actually connected (or VPN'd) via India

        • I can't see anywhere that says it is region locked for India. I used it all of last season with no issues, not having to connect with a VPN.

        • +1

          @chigga:

Yes I used it last year too. The person on Whirlpool said it gave a specific warning in the checkout process that anything purchased through India needs to be watched through India.

I think I'll cancel and re-subscribe through Mexico just to be safe

        • @geech: Thanks, I think I'll do the same. Don't want to be running a VPN on my phone just to watch when I'm on the go.

    • someone should signup through india for 20 bucks as a guinea pig

      • +3

        I vote you.

        • Ill do it cant seem to resubscribe til 26th as I have a current sub.

  • Great price, great timing. Did Canadian payment process last year so hopefully Brazilian payment process just as easy.

  • My account isn't set for autorenew (Canada) but I still got the renewal email (including 10 per cent discount described above). How do you stop them renewing at $130-ish despite them saying it will renew on 25 sept. They don't have my payment info! At least they shouldn't.

If I renew with this Brazil deal i wonder if that negates the former renewal process. If not, may need to send an email.

Brazil deal is great. Thanks OP.

    • I think you'll find they do have your payment details under the 'my account' section. They have my details in the billing and payment info section from last year.
So maybe cancel the account if worried and sign up under a new email/country?
Will do some investigating tonight with VPN signup under old account.

  • Done! All working.

was worried so i paid CAD with paypal. All good

    • How about a + then ;)

      • haha ok. I forgot…i was too busy playing with the pass :D

  • +2

Would be a bonus if we can find a 10-20% off promo code

  • What VPN are you using for Mexico / Brazil? I tried to use windscribe but I had to pay extra for those countries. Also does team option includes play offs? How much is team option in mexican pesos?

    • I assume people are using Opera.

I have a paid Windscribe account.

      • Opera only has Mexico and Brazil under the paid 'Gold' service

    • +2

Get a free trial of NordVPN

    • PIA has a Brazil server. Although it's not free it's good value.

  • Anyone else have the issue that live games work perfectly but replays lag?

    • +1

it's an issue with your cookies. Delete and restart browser/try again. Also, use Chrome if you're not already.

      • Reece?

        • Reece?

  • I'm trying to submit my payment but it's coming up with a message
"You already have an active subscription. If you need further help, please contact customer support."

I have auto-renew turned off though.. do I have to do anything else to stop my current 2016/17 subscription?

    • +1

this happened to me last year. send them an email and they'll fix it up

      • Thanks, I sent an email to see if they can cancel my current subscription.
Maybe I can't sign up because it says my current subscription is still active.
        "Access Through: Sep 29, 2017 23:59"

        • +2

I'm getting the same error. I'll just wait it out until the 29th to see if I can resubcribe manually then.

      • Got a reply from support after I asked if they could cancel my 2016/17 subscription so I could change package options. I think 10% off still is more expensive so I'll have to ask again.

Thank you for your support inquiry!

We are sorry to hear that you no longer wish to continue your NBA League Pass subscription. As you are a valued member of the NBA community, we would like to invite you to continue your subscription at a discount of 10% off your selected package.

Would you like to keep your League Pass account active and take advantage of this offer?

  • +1

For those who signed up using VPN last year email these guys to stop

    [email protected]

I was offered 20% discount so I'm checking with them to see what the final cost is. Will report back

  • Almost as popular as it was in the 90's.

  • Through Brazil VPN I'm getting $120 not $112, anyone else?

    • I get $89.99USD when connecting through Brazil. What currency are you selecting?

      • +1

        AUD! So pay through usd?

        • Depends on your conversion rates. $89.99 USD equates to ~$112.85 AUD. I just paid using their AUD option

    • If you pay in BRL it comes out to around $112AUD

  • What are the chances of the price dropping further before the start of the season?

    • Last year I held out many times and I didn't see it drop. In the final few months it dropped to $30 but never for the entire season.

  • YEESSSSSS thanks OP :D

https://www.nbafullhd.com replace nba with NFL NHL MLB and there you go. follow their facebook page. if your game aint up. just pop them a message. they will tell you when it up!

I had NBA league pass for a while. used to pay monthly $44
Than i found out about free MLB NFL NBA NHL stream reddit! every game is streamed for free. with better quality then if i payed.

    • This.

Though it's a bit hard to find timely replays. Eg. When I get home no site has finished uploading the morning games. Hopefully they do it a bit quicker this year.

      • You guys missed out on ballstreams. 1080p60fps minimal delay (5s) for $80 for 1.5 years

        • Yea I miss ballstreams

        • ballstreams was basically a pirate stream that they would charge you money for -
none of your money gets back to the nba

if you want to pay something at all - your money should go to the content providers.

        • @voter1: I agree but it had the best stream quality with the least delay. 60fps over ILPs 30, chat was fun :p, local ads and sports talkback are better than ILPs black screens and repetitive NBA ads.

But yeah I had ILP before ballstreams and then got straight back on it after BS got shutdown, ILP has its pros as well over BS.

    • do you mean like the specific forums such as nba streams, nfl streams on reddit?

Yeh they are good, but can be hit and miss, for example i tried to watch two games this past week for college football (mind you espn was streaming, so big games) and could not find a decent stream on reddit, one stream website legit had like 20 ads lol

  • Does anyone know if they have brought out an NBA League Pass app on Playstation 4?

They were going to last year but not sure if it worked for Australian PS4 accounts?

So annoying having to cast/hdmi cable from laptop to the tv. Especially when there is lag in audio/video.

    • +1

      could always get a chromecast

    • +1

Yeah they had an app last year. Reliability wasnt great though, for me the apple tv app always worked the best

    • Get a Chromecast, best decision I made!
