  • Is this per pc? can I use it on all the pc's at home to backup to B2

    • This is a 1-computer lifetime license, for noncommercial use only

  • do you need to use the provided SharewareOnSale installer or can you use generic GoodSync installer?

    • Confirmed order ID works with GoodSync downloaded from the developers website… no need to install shareware installer (was a little worried what else might have been installed with it)

      • where on earth do you type the serial, checked the website and the software download - cannot find it anywhere

finally found it but I swear it wasnt there the first few times I ran it

        Go Help - activate pro

i was a little reluctant to give it my windows password

    • I used the shareware installer unfortunately, but made sure I didn't blindly sign up for anything else or have it permission to install other stuff. Hope I'm safe - nothing bogus came up in the add/remove programs or ESET Smart security suite.

I would not install using the installer provided by sos. Got my serial number, now downloading from oem website. Lets see if serial works.

Serial works on downloaded version from goodsync, only tested on windows version.

Serial provided on screen after you give up your deets to shareware on sale.

But note you need to also provide reg info to goodsync…

This is actually really good sync software, been using it for years but great to have an extra licenses for my notebook now ;-)

  • looking into sync/backup software right now. used Syncback in the past but people recommended Syncovery too. Will give this one a go too! thanks

A couple of days ago I've started using SyncThing to sync/backup data from my Mac (+ Android phone) onto my NAS.

Seems to be working fine so far. And it's free :)

      • I've used syncthing temporarily with android. It was blazing fast. However, I'm hesitant to use it for important stuff since it's more catered towards sync than backup. The option to do a 1way sync was hidden in the options.

        • The new version has a switch "Send Only" which (I believe) makes it a backup-only.

Also has File Versioning which should be good (haven't used it yet).

As for Android: originally I was using SyncMe Wireless to make backups of files. But the app stopped backing up files located on external SD card after I've upgraded my phone to SG8 (IIRC it's due to the new version of Android). The dev stopped upgrading the version so I had to look for another solution.

SyncThing had some issues too, but switching to "Use advanced Folder Picker" and manually putting a .stfolder made it sync files from external SD card.

        • @Raq: the "Send Only' option sounds good. Might give it another go when I got time.

I'm using synchronize ultimate for Android now. good old SMB share. using Tasker to fireoff the sync weekly and the app closes upon completion.

    • Have a look at file history (built into windows 8 +)

Simple setup, keeps multiple versions of your files until you run out of space

Synctoy (a Microsoft tool - direct download from web)
You will need to create a startup script for synctoy to automate it

  • So is this like Dropbox?
What's the difference Sorry.. no cloud backup?

It's a program that will allow you to Sync or copy data between locations… eg, Local PC and NAS box… Local PC and Cloud storage… or NAS to USB drives..etc.. Essentially managing the copy process, file versions as well as some other nice features like copying open files with snapshots..etc..

I personally use it for fast updating of USB backup drives, offsite drives and to update other PC/notebooks at home with the same data (Eg, pictures, music, documents so no matter what PC is off I can still have full access as well as having a backup of my data over multiple computers and offsite drives…etc)

It’s a great software for backup / sync especially through the LAN. I personally have 2 purchased copies and run them on my servers for routine backups. Thanks OP won’t hurt to get another one.

Looks to be a very useful program for synching files across a network or backing up to an external HDD.
    Thanks, OP!

Thanks. Been using SyncBackFree but might give this one a try too.

Awesome, thanks op. Now to set it up for my NAS backup.

  • I've used this forever, to sync music files between NAS/PC/backup and smaller files to my seedbox. Always works flawlessly.

Only thing worth mentioning is that ftp/sftp can be kinda slow, since it's only single threaded. Not an issue for most people, I suspect.

Thanks OP. I've been using this software for years. This is the best software I've ever used for syncing. Highly recommended.

Decent App based on two quick tests.
Open File Test:: Just tested if it can backup "Open Files" like an Outlook PST with Outlook open. It can. I also checked if I sent a few emails whether it would Capture the changes with a Resync (again without closing Outlook). It did indeed.

Block File Test: Worked fine as the change to the above file only took a millisecond to resync so didn't have to copy the full PST across.

    Nice one.

    • One Test that did Fail I use Truecrypt and changes made within it were not detected, even after dismounting. AM surprised as even Dropbox detects these changes. Might need to log a support case with them about that. If Block changes actually work then it should have detected and resynced. A big Flaw (for my needs) and in turn what else doesn't work (with minor changes)?

      • Correction It does work. I spotted a pointer on Goodsync's FAQ! (oops).
Method: There's an option in the 'Truecrypt" Preferences dialog for (un-check "Preserve modification timestamp of file containers")."
This way GoodSync will know that TC encrypted file has changed and it can backup/sync it.
The TC file does require "Dismounting" those for new time to apply. So Test Passed (Mostly).

        • Would it copy the whole volume each time or can it do incremental backups on TrueCrypt volumes?

        • Unfortunately, It doesn't read the contents of the Truecrypt so not an incremental. It can however keep a History copy but ends up be the full filesize. Its great for Sync but not as a fully fledged backup with incrementals (I use alternate software (Shadowprotect)for that!

  • It looks quite good. However I would like to be able to back up or sync only files modified later than a nominated date and I cannot find an option for that in the settings.

  • Where is the serial code for this>???

    • You receive your own serial number on sign-up.

  • +1

Thanks for that - registered 5 licenses :)

  • So works with synology and Google drive, yes?
I want sync not just back up

  • Thanks OP, upgraded from v9 to v10 (save 19.95 USD)

  • Cheers, had this before on an old PC and was pretty happy with it

  • Anybody point me in the right direction to have this work with a QNAP TS453?

  • I downloaded version 10, but can't work out where to apply for the serial number. Is there a link or somewhere to go on their webpage? Can anyone assist?

    • On the main toolbar, Help -> Activate Now.

  • Thank you so much! Been looking for a free sync/backup software for my Mac for a long time. Great post op!

  • Crap, was I supposed to register this before the offer period was over? Can't seem to activate it now.
