Probably be good to see if Sony store would match it. (spoke to Melb sales guy and he says buy from JBhifi as they are unlikely to match 2882.35, they're selling for 3300 with no discount)

Here's a tip;
You can use the $2001 to $3000 warranties for example rather then ones at bottom of page.

  • I think this product is also eligible for the whole PS3 + 3D glasses + GT5 game deal so I think its a very good bargain.

    • Yes it is indeed eligible, edited thread to reflect that.

  • wow!!! with the paypal deal, it works out to $2,782.35

  • Dont forget to get extended warranty :)

  • Just brought one. didnt want to wait so went instore. they will quote you 3300 and you just tell them on the website its 2882 and they will happily do the same.

    • Can you please scan and post the receipt?
      Thanks!

Great price, the $100 Paypal cashback effecttively means free delivery!

  • if you pay by VISA gold credit card you get an extra 1 year warranty by visa on top of the manufactuers warranty
An interesting concept would be to pay the full amount by paypal, which takes the money off the visa gold card.
maybe get the $100 paypal discount AND the free 1 year extended warranty?

    • I like your thinking but not sure it would work? Can you confirm?

      • I know the VISA warranty works as i have cliaimed on a camera without issue.

However i havent done the paypal/visa combination warranty :)
I did manage to get a refund from VISA for a dodgy Ebay purchase that went wrong as paypal withdrew the funds from my visa gold card for payment for the item, so that was as good as paying directly.
Of course if you have any funds in paypal, they will use the paypal $$$ first before the credit card.

        • Just a small correction, you can choose source of fund to make Paypal Payment which means you can pay for entire amount by your credit card.

        • I am pretty sure that this wont be covered by credit card if you pay via paypal. From credit card's perspective the transaction occured between them and paypal. So, there is no link to the actual good. so no extended warranty. I checked about this with my credit card last year. Please let me know if someone has claimed extended warranties on such transactions. I would love to be wrong.

  • Sounds good. Does anyone know how does this compare to Samsung Series 6 or 7 in terms of quality?
I was waiting to buy Samsung Series 6 or 7 LED this size. But this deal sounds too good. I have samsung series 6 and the quality is amazing. Don't want to buy this in a rush.

  • Cnet hasn't reviewed this model but amazon has user reviews and it comes up 5 out 5 stars as average
    http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDL55HX800-inch-Full-240Hz/dp/B00…
Looked at a few other sites most are marking it 5 out of 5 or 4.5 out 5 minimum
The smaller model gets a good review only real complaint was it was a bit small for 3D and no 3D receiver or glasses, fixed with this 55 inch deal lol

  • Thanks for that. What is Full HD LED-LCD 3D TV? I am confused. Is it LED or LCD tv?

    • +2

Technically it's an LCD with LED backlighting, as far as I'm aware there are no large pure LED TV's in production as of yet. Note: "Dynamic Edge LED Backlight with Deep Black Panel"

    • All LCD tvs need a backlight, to provide white light for the LCDs to filter into different colours. The backlight on regular LCD tvs are fluro tubes. The LED-LCD tvs use LEDs to provide the white light instead. LEDs use less power, and unlike fluro tubes, can be dimmed in different areas of the screen, allowing for greater contrast.

  • This is a great deal. I just paid $2.3k for a Samsung S7 3D Full HD Plasma 58" with a Blu Ray player + 3 glasses.

Would have much rathered a PS3 even if the screen is slightly smaller.

    • Go buy a PS3 for $398 from Big W or try and get one for $298 at the Video Pro deal… If you're from Bris… Either way still cheaper and bigger… not LED but aren't bigger Plasma's better then larger LCD's (whole new kettle of fish there :D)

  • Crap. I bought one from JBHIFI on Sunday afternoon for 3198 incl 4yrs extended warranty. Should have waited.. This is really pissing me off as I pushed the guy just to get it to that. Can do much..right??

    • +2

You can try and ask them for the difference as its been only 4 days since. I think you can even return it within 7days. so give them a call and try because it is 300$.

      • thanks I'll give it a go.. I think they will say they worked the ext warranty into the price and i got the tv for around this price anyway

    • Humm… if I'm not wrong the default sony manufacturer warranty for Bravia is 1 Year. If so the TV price from JB is $2880 (TV with 1 yr warranty) + $280 (2yr ext warranty) = $3160 (total 3 yr warranty)

You are paying 3198 with 1 yr base warranty from sony and 4 years ext warranty (maximum of 5) so isn't your bargained price with the sales rep at JB better?

      • Hey Edmund. Maybe your right however no one pays full price for ext warranty. There is a lot of margin in ext warranty. However i'm happy. receipt shows $198 for 4yrs and on the website $399. so obviously there is a fair bit of margin in the tv also..

        • Well i'm not that good at bargaining so I doubt I'll be able to archive your price with 5 years warranty (envy!) so I reackon you pretty well.

But if I buy online I'll get the $100 off by using paypal to pay, then I'll have to pay the full price $399.00 for 4 yr ext warranty since you can't bargain on the web :( unless someone else have a better idea?

  • Sounds good…is the 55 sony viewable area 55 or is it 50 viewable and 55 with bezel…?

    • +1

got the tape ruler out. its 55" viewable. inc bezel is around 59.3"

  • how would this stack against the Samsung 3D plasma PS50C7000??

    • Me keen to know this too.

    • The C7000 will crap all over it.
Side-lit LED panels are a joke in the industry…

  • Sorry for the newbie question but it says "3D Optional (Requires 3D receiver TMRBR100)".

Is this the 3D transmitter that you get with the bonus entertainment pack?

Does it mean that it won't display 3D content without this receiver/transmitter?

And why do some places say "transmitter" and some "receiver"? Which is it?

    • the TV will display 3D, but you cant watch it without the 3D Transmitter and Glasses.

the transmitter is the pole looking thing which comes with the bonus pack that syncs the tv and glasses to get the best 3d image possible.

the pole is the transmitter and the glasses is the receiver . that what im told.

  • damn… to all those homies who bought something similar but at no where as good as the price or the extra stuff - i feel ya!!!

  • I've put one on hold at JB that I will go have a look at after work - but I'm thinking that will probably be the standard price post-christmas anyway. TV prices are falling fast.

  • Just bought 2! Hopefully the redemption doesn't take too long..

    • Two? Wow dude…….

  • Does anyone know if this tv qualifies for sony 3 year warranty which is for their Bravia LCD tv's?
    http://www.sony.com.au/support/resources/en_AU/html/Warranty…

    • The offer you linked is in the past - 'Sony is extending the standard manufacturers' warranty on BRAVIA LCD TVs purchased between 1 October 2009 and 31 December 2009 from 1 year to 3 years.'

      • Thanks for the point.I'll try to remove my post.

  • Sorry I am unable to remove my comment. Anyways came across interesting article on choice.com regarding extended warranty. It talks about statutory rights even after manufacturers warranty has expired.
I am just trying to work out whether it is worthwhile paying $400 extra for a 4 year warranty. That seems pretty steep. With credit card you get 2 years all up. Electronics dont really fail if they survive the first year from my experience.

    • Yes. There are consumer protection laws in place along the line of 'a $3k TV should last longer than 1 year', so even if you only had a 1y warranty and your TV broke after 13 months, you still have avenues to pursue.

My parents Sharp CRT has lasted as long as me before the channel selection dial broke! (32 years).

    • Yeah, but good luck with that. Fighting tooth-and-nail with big business is not something I enjoy doing when my TV breaks.

  • Just walk into a JB store today to try my luck on this TV. Ask the salesman the best price for this model and he quoted $2900++ after the 15% discount. Told him about JB online offer and that paypal if offering $100 cashback and that I am also interested to get a 2 year warranty if he can give me a better price.

Guess what, he managed to give me $2878 for the TV + JB 2 year extended warranty + free delivery! Awesome deal i must say given that if I buy online from JB I'll have to pay:

    $2882 (TV) + $279 (JB 2 year warranty) + $87(delivery) - $100 (Paypal rebate) = $3148 (Total)

PS: By the way online shipping is slightly more expensive as I saw the in store delivery was about $10 cheaper, don't know why

Although I didn't use a gold card to pay for this so im not getting a year free warranty from a gold cc but i used my citibank BP card which have 0.005% rebate so I get approx another $15 back, sweet.

Don't know how to post the receipt in this forum so can't show you guys any pictures of the receipt. But I'm looking at it right now stapled into the last page of my JB extended warranty booklet :)

Also just so you guys know that I couldn't do scheduled delivery for online purchase and that's probably why I decided to pop down to JB instore and they happily did a scheduled delivery of the TV for me in Dec.

    • =(
at the same time i walked into bing lee, and paid 3040 for the TV, delivered with 5 year warranty.

      • Not a bad bargain too considering you got 2 more years of warranty with it :)

        • basically i asked Bing Lee to price match 2880, and their 5 year warranty thing was 200 - discounted to 160.

    • Damn you all… I was just about to buy this TV because it's the last day and now I see you getting these better deals.. Alas I don't live near a Bing Lee or JB or any decent shop..

      • Time for you to move to melb or syd ;)

      • well online deals still not that bad. =D

who knows maybe a better deal on next week.. ;p

  • Just bought this TV today at $3121 include 3 years warranty from HB Hifi today…that's it no more research and wait…I have my 55" LED LCD 3D.

  • I ended up grabbing the KDL40HX800, JB had no online stock (1698.30 +86 delivery) neither did JB in Werribee so I went to see the good guys in Hoppers Crossing, they had $2099 marked on it… sales guy says I'll do it for $2069, so I go Geeze not even close to JB, showed him the online store on my phone, don't tell him they had no stock online or nearby, comes back after speaking to boss with 1690, sold! and now to send off for my bonuses.

  • Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has bought Sony's 3D TV and sent off all the stuff to get the bonuses and actually gotten it? how long did it take for Sony to actually send it to ya? It only been like 24 since i posted it but i cant freaking wait to get the PS3 and play the new COD BLACK OPS game in 3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so yeah….help me with my agony!

    • Not sure on how long it takes to send out but mine was mailed in on 31 of Nov and my tracker number showed my claim had been validated yesterday (9th Nov) and say I should receive my bonus pack within 28 days.

      • Thanks dude…i have a feeling though that its gonna be delayed coz of the GT5 game…itd be nice to know if someone actually has gotten their prize delivered from Sony.

        • I just called up the promotion center…they said they'll still ship out whatever they have with them now within the 3D entertainment pack..and when the GT5 game comes out, they'll ship it seperately once its released. So so so 2 weeks-4 weeks…….thats the time they told me when i should be expecting the PS3 and stuff without GT5..

        • ahh cool

  • My 3D Entertainment Pack arrived this morning. I claimed on the 23rd of October. It actually arrived about 4 hours prior to receiving an email from Sony saying it had been shipped. No GT5, it will be shipped separately.
