SNES Mini is now available for purchase online at Big W so it's not just in-store as previously thought.

Only available for delivery so will cost more than in-store and obviously you won't get it today, but I think it's still a good bargain for those who value their time more and don't feel like queuing outside a Big W this early on a Saturday morning.

Shipping
Metro: $9.90
Regional: $13.90

19/10 2pm: Available again, thanks OriginalDelBoy

    Thanks OP, grabbed one

  • +1

Good deal if you want one - especially given they're already showing up in FB groups for $180.

    • +6

I saw one person calling out a scalper with a link to OzBargain.

      Made my day.

      • +4

Now he goes and buys 100 from this link ;D

  • -6

Will this be a limited release or mass produced forever? Crunching some data before I broden.

    • Nintendo claim there'll be plenty of stock into 2018.

After that, they're re-starting the NES mini (The NES mini and SNES mini are all but identical inside - same board etc). So at that point the SNES might be hard to come by again.

      • If they’re all but identical inside, wouldn’t it be possible for the firmware to be copied between platforms? i.e. a NES-SNES, or a SNES-NES.

  • +2

Gumtree and eBay is getting flooded with listings, seems like Big W staff have purchased the first few batches, lol.

  • +1

Thanks Kamoi. You just saved me from driving into town, lining up and then running between several stores in the hopes of getting one.

I’d love one today, but I’d rather not wake the entire house up on a Saturday morning as I leave.

    Delivery was $13.90 for me.

    • Thanks. Updated the post. Seems to be $9.90 only for metro areas.

    • I think people are overestimating how much demand there is for these things.

I went to my local ebgames and picked up my preorder at 2pm. The store was super quiet.

Employee at the register said she was considering getting one herself now because of how much stock they still had left.

      • Why would having a lot of stock move an employee to buy a unit ? Makes no sense ?

        • Since she was initially on the fence about getting one. And used the 'lack of stock' to justify her decision to not get one. But now that there is sick she is reconsidering

  • +1

    Thanks, ordered

  • +2

    Over to you, fulfillment team.

Isn't listed/available online at EB, JB, Gamesmen, Target, Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Bing Lee or Dick Smith as of this post, though people are selling their pre-orders on eBay for $200ish.

    • Wait, are you saying people who pre-ordered from those stores haven't received confirmation that they can pick up today?

      • I rang Harvey Norman up yesterday and they told me I won't be able to get it until the 2nd OCT because there's been a "delay".

I'm pissed to say the least.

        • Oh the (profanity) did that to me too. Except they said it's on "backorder" and could be up to twelve weeks!

Yeah nah, cancelled it. It was a second one for a friend anyway. And I got her one at Target today, they had loads.

        • @thescarecrow84: I did in fact get it today from harvey, idk why the lady said that, maybe she thought I hadn't pre-ordered?

      • +2

I picked up mine this morning at EB Games Macquarie centre with no dramas. They even had a little bit of stock to purchase without pre-orders available.
Unfortunately it's a Christmas surprise so I won't get to play it for a few months haha

        • Just got an email saying it's ready for pick up so idk what the lady was on about yesterday.

Damn that's a long wait, I've been waiting 2 months since I pre-ordered and I'm already dying lol.

        • +1

@JAKEBAB: I'm still working on Majora's Mask 3D and DCKR, and I STILL haven't played Skyward Sword! So I have plenty to keep me occupied til then.

        • +1

Yeah no email or anything, also picked my preorder up today. They said they still had stock left for people to buy on the day too (and i went in at 2pm)

  • +2

Thanks OP! Can’t wait for the Mario kart duels!

  • Just got one!

  • Cheers for this OP, made waking up a bit earlier at the start of the long weekend worth it!

  • These are going for $290 on eBay as presale, insane prices but it's hackable to install any SNES game so there nice to know ;-)

    • +1

hey may "have" been but if you look at sold listing for last 2-3 days they are generally going for under $200. By the time you factor in fees and a lot of these are doing free shipping they arent making much.

    • They are being LISTED on ebay for that. the only ones that sell are those well under $200.

    • -1

Screw the people who buy these just to fleece online. I really doubt anyone will get a decent profit (eg. 2x) due to the higher supply of these units. I just checked the Mini NES listings and there’s plenty of units online for inflated prices, hopefully they don’t move because the people who fleece them are jerks.

Once the hype wears off people won’t spend inflated prices on these unless they’re a super enthusiastic collector of all things video games, and even then those people would have likely preordered online or at launch. Or maybe I’m just trying to convince myself because I really hate people who buy and fleece just to make a profit.

  • Thanks got one. Missed out before.

  • Just grabbed one in person at Big W. There were about 30 people and they had enough plus some spare. This is not as exclusive as the NES mini.

    • likewise - only 20 people waiting when doors opened and BigW had 60 behind the counter

  • Thanks OP, got one.
Looking on eBay completed listings they have gone for between $152 and $400 so this is a great deal.

    Thanks again!

  • Just ordered myself one.. looks like one of my Christmas prezzies is sorted.

  • In case people are not aware, it does not come with power supply.

On the back of the box it states:
To use this console, you will need the following devices (sold separately):
    - Nintendo USB AC adaptor (CLV-003(AUS)) or another 5V/1A output AC adapter with USB port.
    - a tv or monitor with a HDMI port.

So won’t be able to play right away if you don’t have the above

    • +8

NOPE.. you just plug it into the USB port on your TV.. the one that can run a portable hard drive and your good to go.. The mini snes comes with a USB power cable in the box

If you dont have a usb port on your TV with enough power then you can just grab a $2 AC to USB plug from ebay .. i have like 3 of these laying around my house. they all say 5V/1A and have 1 or 2 USB female plugs on them

Funny thing is that you could also plug it into your Bluray player PS4 or Xbox one USB port to power it :)

      What’s in the box?

Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System
      Two Super NES Classic Controllers
      HDMI cable
      USB power cable
20 of your favourite NES games + Star Fox 2 game

    • -7

I really wish Nintendo would provide a way to actually power their devices out of the box. Not acceptable to provide no power adaptor. I don't have a TV with a USB or any device near my monitor that can power the mini SNES and I don't have "tonnes of power adaptors" lying around like certain people do.

      • +4

Do you have a smartphone or tablet? Borrow that one. Otherwise buy a cheap one from Kmart.

        • -1

I do but it's used for my phone which would be an inconvenience.

      • +8

FWIW, I find it quote acceptable, but YMMV.

I have plenty of spare USB ports on my TV and maybe a dozen USB wall-warts that are in a draw gathering dust. Omitting a power supply reduces unit build cost, reduces packaging size and shipping cost, and doesn't contribute any further to e-waste landfill.

      • +3

This has been a part of Nintendo's responsibility to not contribute to e-waste. Almost all people have a 5V/1A adapter (or seven) around the house, and to supply one in every package for the one in ten people that doesn't have one would create a lot of unnecessary waste. I'm sorry that you were unable to play it straight out of the box, but these kinds of USB adapters are exceedingly common and quite cheap, just a few dollars. So you should be able to pick one up with no trouble at all at any number of places. Cheers.

        • -1

Their responsibility to increase profits more like.

      • Screw making more redundant power adaptors. There is enough commercial e-waste now days, we don't need more landfill.

    • It's just a micro USB cable.

  • -1

Is there much point in getting this if you have the original SNES?

    • +1

Not really unless your original snes is broken/no longer works.

    • +3

      HDMI output?

      • +2

HDMI output is the reason these things sell like crazy

    • Dammit I already bought one.

    • +3

Never before released Star Fox 2, save states, convenience, HDMI compatible, clearer 720p picture.

    • +2

      Depends, really.

      If:
      * your original SNES has a good quality cartridge connector PINs; AND
      * your original SNES has no ground circuit noise and/or leaking/bulging capacitors; AND
      * you already have all the games (including the previously unreleased Starfox 2); AND
      * you have a couple of original or aftermarket controllers in good working condition; AND
      * you have a display that you're happy with (either CRT or HD display with inbuilt upscaling), AND
      * the people in your house are happy with the user experience with the old hardware….

      ….then the answer is no.

Otherwise, yes, there are a number of reasons.

But I think you already knew that.

      • And three games on this thing were never released in PAL territories, and all are very expensive now.

      • And you get digital audio with this :)

  • I remember the fiasco that happened to Big W website last year with the release of the Mini NES. The site was crashing so hard, that other user information was being shown at checkout. Big W actually had to shut down their online store for a while to fix/upgrade their website.

  • +2

JB Chadstone has stock. I just picked one up, no pre-order. Guy said they're not holding them and have about 15 left as at 9.45am.

    • +1

Can confirm also in JB Hi-fi Eastlands. Have just bought one there.

  • Ordered, thanks OP.

With Monday being a public holiday in QLD what do you reckon my chances of getting it next week are like? I ordered today (Sat 30th). Really want it before next weekend.

    • 4 - 6 business days if anyone was wondering. Found it on big w site.

  • +1

Just returned from a no-fuss, no-pre-order trip to BigW at Westfield Eastgardens NSW.

Was in and out of the store in under 15mins.

They were strictly enforcing a one unit per customer rule and suggesting, to the people in the small line at the counter, visiting the BigW website to buy any additional units they may want/need. Kudos to BigW.

Seems to be a completely different situation to the pre-order panic in Japan and the USA. I'm still trying to find a supplier for a Super Famicom Mini and USA SNES Mini. If anyone can help, please let me know. Happy to swap a new in box AU/EU SNES Mini for a JP or US model.

    • Happy to swap a new in box AU/EU SNES Mini for a JP or US model

Im curious, is there any difference between the two besides physical design?

Also why are there two different versions in the first place?

      • AU/EU <—> US = Physical design differences for the most part
        AU/EU <—> JP = Slightly different game line-up…and obvious language differences ;-)

  • I’ve been contemplating getting one for months. I had one back in the day but sold it on eBay about 10 years ago. Now my son has a Wii which runs a SNES emulator but this was too nostalgic to let pass. Plus it looks so damn cute. I’m sure it will be fun for an hour or so. Thanks for the post OP.

    • +3

you'll definitely get more than an hour of fun out of this, remember these are real games made by a legitimate gaming company not those mobile "games" that are fun for about 5 seconds

    • +1

This is also a good size to chuck in the bag going to a holiday house/grandma's that I would never bother with with a big console.
That also makes it a good size for a dramatic punishment/confiscation if people aren't doing their chores etc.

  • Do i need an adapter or can it plug straight into USB on my tv?

    • I tested mine into the USB at the back of tv and worked fine.

I guess the only downside is with the short length of cables (HDMI, USB and controls) you are close to the tv..

      • Controller extension cables mandatory methinks.

I'll be going for 3m ones off ebay… can only find 2m ones in B&M stores which won't be enough distance between the mini and my couch.

  • Also, Big W offers Afterpay so you only have to pay 25% today and you pay the rest over 6 weeks. It's like Lay-by but you get the item now.

    • What could go wrong ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • +1

I've used Afterpay quiet a bit; They make they're money by addition additional fees if you don't have the cash when payments are due.

As long as you pay on time, you'll only ever pay the base cost plus postage of the item.

  • There's heaps of stock my friend bought 1 each for our group from Target Knox.

I'm still waiting for my preorder email from EB games, maybe I should just rock up and pick up up.

    • +2

I didn't get a pick-up email either for my pre-order, but went in-store and had no problems collecting one.

      • Cool ill try that

      • Me too.

  • EB Games also have stock, and shipping is $2.20 cheaper…

    https://ebgames.com.au/loot-217392-Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Sup…

    • Lol. EB games has joined in the fun again. Plenty of stocks going around. I wonder how eBay pre order sellers survive when they are selling at $195.

  • +1

Just a heads up that BigW support Afterpay for the SNES Mini.

If you can't afford one today you can still order, and pay it off every fortnight at ~$25 per fortnight.

EDIT: Comment above beat me by a few mins. :S

  • Was just in Costco Marsden Park and they have about 100 of these in stock.

  • Out of stock now, thanks OP :)

  • Fairfield NSW Big W still has a few in stock. Just purchased one myself instore

  • Liverpool target has at least 40, unless they're empty boxes, sorry didn't ask

    • Unlikely empty boxes. It seem this time round, there is ALOT more stock compared to Mini NES.

  • EB Games Liverpool still had a couple left for walk-in buys.

  • So funny, have a look at Gumtree…..wowza….

    • I saw a seller trying to sell at RRP, guess they bought too many and trying to break even.

Also the majority of seller seem to be selling them at $200+

    • +2

There are so many listings on there. Compared to the NES there's been a much larger amount of supply, there's no way these scalpers will make much considering that Nintendo are going to manufacture more of these (as well as the NES which is coming back next year or something).

These scalpers have shot themselves in the foot and they will have a console they won't be able to get rid of unless it's less than cost price or they wait 10 years for someone to want one, it's glorious.

  • -2

Bought 2 from bigw this morning 1 per customer :)

  • I know this is the big w thread but plenty still left at target Knox city Vic. About 15 at the counter.

    • Grabbed mine from Target Galleria Morley WA.
About 25 left, they started with 600 units

    • -5

I agree. Useful comments are just the devil.

  • Just got notification from Big W that mine has shipped
