Isn't this feature included in your phone? Why do you need a separate app for it?

I'm using a similar app called TrueCaller free app which is excellent. Yes, you can block numbers with Android anyway but TrueCaller does its own lookup on the number that's calling by checking against the details users have reported plus other sources. The number of spam calls I've avoided by being able to see who the caller is (rather than just caller number) and red spam flagging before answering! Not sure about the value of this app though, it sounds like TrueCaller does a similar but better job.

Again this is inbuilt… spam gets identified. Just enable "identify unsaved numbers" in the phone settings. No need for another app running on your phone.

          Not on mine, it ain't.

        • @Selenium: If Android, this function should be under the default phone/diaper app. Long press phone number in call log and press "Block Contact".

        • +3

@ScottyP: Nope. Neither that function nor the one above are built in. At least for the default Sony Xperia dealer/contacts app.

I manually look up every unfamiliar number and when found to be spam, manually add it to a rather big Spam contact… Tedious. Hoping the OP's app might alleviate some of the effort there.

        • +1

@Selenium: Right. That blows for sure. A third party app should do the trick then.

        • Unsaved numbers doesn't always equal spam… I'm often expecting important calls from people I don't have in my contacts…

You're thinking of a white listing method, this is more a black listing method. It's a list of spam numbers, opposed to a list of allowed numbers.

        • @ScottyP: In my Android version, you have to first add the number to the phone database to be able to then block it - it's stupid.

        • @GregMonarch: That's absurd. And so unusual. However, i'm basing my experience off HTC and Samsung handsets only over the past 5 odd years, seeing they're what we've owned. Different overlays, but same execution. I've used a few dialer apps which don't have the block function, however in all cases if you open the default dialer, long press any number in call log, i've always been able to block.

Can it block sms based on message content?

I get the well known 'optus mms download' spam message often. Same message, different number every time. So impossible to block.

I'm using "should I Answer" also free and as Truecaller mentioned above, also has its own look up. Have found it very accurate but always tempted to answer the call just to see if its right lol…which it always has been.

  • Is this a stock feature on s8+

  • Normally $3.99 not $2.99 for me OP.

Do you ever disturb someone with annoying calls? Do you want to add them to a blacklist?

So it's for the people who make the annoying calls, to stop the recipients from responding?

Same thought ran through my head!

      I LOL at this description.
From the sound of it, it's actually made to stop you from disturbing other people. Which makes sense now that I think about it.
They have found a unique angle on call blocking - hit it from the source ;)
I believe their target market is countries that control app and internet consumption.

  • Thanks so much. It installs on my Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) smartphone no problems.

OzBargainers with Android 6.0 won't need this as its already built in by Google:

  • What they should do, is check against a database of telemarketer numbers. e.g. If 50 people with the app designate the same number is a telemarketer, it's then added into a database and blocked for everyone.

  • GF first on the list
