I want to buy my girlfriend a new TV for her birthday. She currently has a 40" old TV that doesn't pick up HD channels. Luckily this means pretty much any new TV I get will be a massive upgrade.
Looking to spend around $500.
We use it for basic things like watching TV (duh) and Netflix (and chill).
I don't really want/need a smart TV, as I would rather get a Chromecast. The Chromecast will do everything we need and, from what I can see, the price of a dumb TV + Chromecast is cheaper than a decent smart TV. Also not interested in curved TVs, I know Kogan has a very cheap one at the moment but I've watched them before and not really a fan. However, feel free to try to persuade me.
My parents bought a Kogan a few years ago and the sound quality is terrible, they had to get a soundbar which I would rather avoid. Can anyone comment on the sound quality of new Kogan TVs?
I would like to take advantage of the eBay 18% off tonight if possible.
Here is what I've found so far:
NEW LINDEN L50HTV17 50"(127cm) FHD LED LCD TV from Good Guys eBay. $449 after discount, should be able to Click and Collect from my local Good Guys.
Kogan 49" 4K LED TV (Series 8 KU8000) including Google Chromecast from Kogan, obviously pending peoples answers to the question above. $549 with free shipping and comes with a Chromecast.
Soniq F50FV17A 50" FHD Smart LED LCD TV from JB HiFi. One of the only cheap smart TVs I've found, however the reviews say it doesn't have Netflix. For this price I could buy a Chromecast too and wouldn't mind. $499 and free Click and Collect.
TEAC 55" Ultra HD LED with USB Recording from Kogan eBay, but not a Kogan model. $482 after discount with free shipping.
Would appreciate any other suggestions.
