Mate, this is sooo last year..

        • +3

The first case of photo unlock happened in 2016, same goes to the combustion news..both wayyy before the release of note 8.. Nice try anyway.

        • @yoyomablue: not sure, I'm not a fan of samsung phones, however I may believe in the problems only if the experience is from your account.. Therefore,go, buy one and share your review here later. Thx.

        • +3

@yoyomablue: Was it one of those $100 tablets you could get at ALDI? I got one and compared to my $900 iPad it was really trash.

        • @2expensive: Relevant username?

  • Just bear in mind that Samsung doesn't seem to acknowledge them as a formal retailer. I had to go to Fair Trading to get them to agree to giving me the compensation voucher during the Note 7 recall.

They also haven't listed them on their list of retailers who offer the $250 discount on the Note 8 - http://www.samsung.com/au/note7loyalty/

Nothing against Mobileciti, as I had no issues with them, but it's been a frustrating year of dealing with Samsung's support.

    • I didnt have any problems with them getting refund from the note7. They did recommended me to deal with samsung directly and get the rpp refund and keep the 256gb sd card. So i made around 200aud profit with a free 256gb sd card thanks to mobileciti.

      • The refund was fine - there was an additional Visa gift card that I had to fight for. As I said, nothing to do with Mobileciti but a shame they aren't on the Note 7 loyalty retailer list above.

        • Neither is Virgin or Voda. Talk about being left out in the cold, if i were one of those customers and saw that, I'd switch to another brand entirely. Its not enough that their phone explodes on people, once its all blown over they cherrypick who they offer the discount to… WTG Sham-sung!

          http://www.samsung.com/au/note7loyalty/

          Virgin Mobile and Vodafone customers
Customers who purchased their Note7 and purchase their Note8 from Vodafone or Virgin Mobile can contact their original place of purchase for more information on Note7 Loyalty offers available to them. The Note7 Loyalty redemption offer is not eligible to these customers.

        • @BargainKen:

I contacted Samsung at [email protected] and they have given me a code to get $250 off the Note 8, which brings it in line with Mobileciti's price.. not sure why they wouldn't just be more up front about it.

        • @roadeh: I think it should be extended to all note 7 buyers regardless of where it came from. They manufactured it, it was their defect that caused the issue and quite frankly if the customer is THAT loyal to Samsung that they choose to do business with them, Samsung should extend their gratitude to all their customers.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the note 7 but held off and then the recalls began. Glad I didn't buy into that.

        • @BargainKen: well if you did buy it you would have made 200aud+ and a free sd card. Thats if the phone doesnt blow up and kill you

  • +1

Price for Note 8 is not correct. Should be $1197.99.

    • +2

      Nope: *Max discount $150

  • Cheaper at Vaya, $1199.20

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/329049

And that includes the wireless charger as well (Vaya said so)

    • But did Samsung say so?

      • Why does that matter?

        Vaya are obligated now

        • Look at their reply at the bottom of the listing answering the question about Aus stock:

Hi, Actually, this is an Australian model and will be shipped from within Australia, we're not able to change the listing's location as this will enable the change for the entirety of our product so we made sure that it is indicated in the product listing. If purchased before 22nd of Sept will include the offer to redeem a wireless charger from Samsung, this has been guaranteed by our Supplier already, nonetheless, we will process the cancellation for you and refund you in full.

Basically if the Samsung does not honour the supplier and you complain about it - then they will just process a cancellation for you and refund you in full. Meaning they are not obligated to unless their supplier is honoured by Samsung.

        • @bchliu:

They aren't going to refund everyone, what would they even do with second hand phones?

        • @samfisher5986: Sell them at a refurbished price - or have them ready to replace any faulty ones that comes back in. There is a market for it, but yeah it is stupid for them for the sake of $80 or whatever the cost is for the dock.

    • +1

i guess from my view, extra $50 and i can grab it instore on the day i would likely consider that. I've ordered from mobileciti before and I guess that gives me comfort
But as an ozb… that $50 difference is annoying me haha

      • Also You get 24 months local warranty , Vaya listing states 12 months only.

        • 12 months retail warranty, its australian stock so surely samsung offers 24 month australian warranty.

    • You will be waiting a while haha

    • Waiting for price drops before a phone has actually been released …. yea that makes perfect sense!

      • -1

Believe me, The current price wont last too long. It will be a bubble.

        • Well, I don't believe you.
As samfisher below has pointed out, this is already on a pretty hefty discount.

If anything, prices will probably stabilise around $1250-$1350 and you might see some sales with the price coming down to $1100-$1200 in January sales… at a push.

        • -2

Every time, when ther eis special, we are forced to believe that is the best price and wont be the same for years to come.

You forgot to mention how often are 20% ebay is often these days, I guess every 4-5 months.

Pre release price is always unreal, But once it is in hands, the drop will be significant, like always

If you dont wanna believe (just because you have ordered), come back in 2-3 months here and you wont require to order dinner that night

        • +1

          @AJAJAJ:

You assume an ebay promotion lines up with a price drop.

And you assume ebay promotions are here to stay, they aren't. eBay will stop throwing us free money eventually.

        • +1

@AJAJAJ: Lol, are you sitting there downvoting my comments because I don't agree with you?

Samsung always charge a premium for their phones - I really don't expect them to drop under $1000 for at least 6 months after they are released.

And no, I haven't bought one and have no intention to either.

        • Sorry but i cant change your Paradise

You think s8 plus was not premium phone??.. You can get it now under 800 au stock.

        • @AJAJAJ:

          for years to come

See, you can always buy older devices for cheaper. All the more power to people who do so.

However, for people who want a release-day Note8, this is a good price. People are already aware that the price will drop later, as is the case with just about all new electronics.

Keep in mind that most people who would buy this kind of device aren't hurting for money to the point where it's worth waiting half a year for $250. By then S9 followed by Note9 will probably be just around the corner - then what, wait another year?

        • +1

@AJAJAJ: How old is S8 lol. Note 8 isn't even out. How long did it take for S8 plus price to drop to $800?

        • +1

@AJAJAJ: Here is a link to a deal for the S8 when it was released with a pre-order of $1050: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/302726

So, 5 months later, it's down to $800 as you've mentioned… so $200 in that space of time.

The Note8 is going for $1259 and that's on a pretty decent eBay discount.

So.. yeah, as I said, sub $1000 is around 6 months… not release day like you seem to think.

    • You do realise you are waiting for a price drop on an unreleased phone as well as a 15-20% ebay coupon

That might not happen for a long time.

  • iphone ten please

      AKA the S8.5

  • Anyone in Melbourne wants to see the Note 8, Samsung has a pop up shop in Melbourne Central this week, been there since Monday. Device is very TALL!

    Pic https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/77537/52158/note8.jpg

    • Yea, its a few mm taller than IP7+ and GS8+

    • +1

They a massive store just 1 level above that. Weird that they used a popup store.

      • Thousands more traffic

    • I saw it in store in jb hifi Glen Waverley last week.

  • That sucks. I paid already for it at the last 10% discount. argh.. $80 diff. is there price protection on this somehow?

    • thought ebay had some price protection? or was that only for the same store?

    • +1 to Mobileciti who helped me cancel my order and reordered with the new price. $80 savings will go well towards my DEX dock. Thanks OP as well

  • Got an SE as my 6 is too laggy. Thanks OP

  • Is the lg v20 a good step up from galaxy s6?

    • yes

    • Not really… The v30 however is a different story.

    • Yes, great phone. Son has had one since it first came out. This is a fantastic price.

  • Is it worth getting an S8 over the S7 or is there not much change to warrant the extra price?

    • Bezelless screen itself is worth it

      • I personally dont mind the "bezel"

        • Then get a Pixel or U11

  • Was in store today and was told that buying at Samsung store will also get you a 1 year screen assure - basically means if you crack your phone accidentally within 12 month, Samsung will repair free of charge.

Is that something Mobileciti offers too ?

    • according to the t&c's of the screen assure, I don't see mobileciti or vaya on that list
i'd hope they'd be included, but guess only one way to find out…

fyi the screen protection is just for the front screen afaik

      • Is there a back screen too?

        • If it's the same as the previous few top Samsung's then the whole thing is glass, not plastic or metal, though only the front is a screen.

    • Don't forget if you buy online from Sammy, use the american express $150 off deal. I think I'm going to play it safe and go Sammy website. I have a feeling the Mobicity might be faster shipping perhaps.

  • Great price on local stock Nokia 5. Any idea if this is dual SIM?

    • I'm also looking at the Nokia 5. Specs-wise, do you reckon this is on par with other phones around the same price range?

      • It has mediorce specs for the price. It's the regular updates, b28 and build quality that make it a good phone.

  • can anyone tell me if I can use the note 7 offer partner bought a note 7 through optus returned and now has an s8+, could I get the $250cr through a note 8 preorder with telstra. Would do in her name so it looks legit

  • Confirmed with samsung online that both VAYA and MOBILECITI are not on the PARTICIPATING RETAILERS list so therefore purchases at these stores will NOT get you the pre-order bonus.
Even though they are selling the correct model, they aren't on the list.

    Straight from the horses mouth.

    • Yet Vaya specifically say they will.

      • Umm, except you are getting it from Samsung and not Vaya. Vaya said their supplier says they will be able to participate but given their eBay feedback track record, I wouldn't trust their words.
        Mobileciti has replied this:
Sorry, Mobileciti isn't listed as a retailer on the list, but we are getting the same official stock, you can alway try.

        Kind regards

        Aaron
        Mobileciti_estore

        • Good to know, funny how that comment is different compared to when i spoke to them on the phone!

        • that sounds like a no

Ebay purchases are not eligible unfortunately. I've made my peace with it.

        • This is not complete. Below is the complete version.

I can only surmise that Samsung has changed the T&C recently and now the onus is on the customer to verify to the seller that it is a participating retailer.

        • @burningrage:

If you read the t&c's… the wireless charger offer just says participating retailer while assure offer lists out the retailers

        • @burningrage: the screen assure and wireless charger has different t&c. Wireless charger is available from most retailer, but screen assure isn't.

    • Vaya actually trades under amaysim. Did you ask if amaysim is a participating retailer?

Their website specially say they are right here: https://www.amaysim.com.au/samsung-galaxy-note8

      • If Vaya eBay store ships the item with an invoice with Amaysim's ABN then yes Amaysim is part of the list.

    • Interesting.. I did get my 256GB MicroSD when I bought the Note 7 from Mobileciti last year, so wonder if they've clamped down on 3rd parties..

  • +2

To claim on the bonuses you need to provide you IMEI (and also potentially a photo of it too!) . Samsung know which retailers have the IMEI so they will know straight away if the bonus is valid. What is written on the proof of purchase might help but at the end of the day any imports from Asia will be excluded if they are not from an Authorised Australian Retailer.

  • Does that mean, anyone getting the Note 8 from Mobileciti will not get the wireless charger?

  • It depends if they are going to recognise them as a valid retailer.

  • Wpuld buying australian stock from MOBILECITI GET YOU 2 year warranty though that would be honoured by Samsung?

    • +1

Yes it does. Local stock guarantees you 2yr warranty from the manufacturer as stipulated by ACCC.

  • Bought one:)

    • Hopefully you haven't paid yet? Just saw the note 8 listing come up as I was browsing eBay and looks like it would be $1155 with the 18% discount running TN (and cheaper with cash rewards)..shame I already bought for hubby with the Amex discount :(
