  • Great headsets, I'm currently using one. Only negative I can give it is the 7.1 usb sound card has issues for me. I get weird popping noise with some audio. I bought a 3.5mm to audio and mic adapter to fix

    • I had a similar problem. Just out of curiosity, are you running Windows 10? If so, it might be worth updating the firmware for the USB sound card to see if that resolves the problem.

      • Nah, Windows 7 still. I've got the latest firmware for the sound card and it did improve the popping a bit but not completely

    • i had the same issue from the previous mighty ape deal so i'm returning them. tried flashing to rev005 firmware but they were already the newest

pity because i really liked them otherwise. excellent build quality and finish.

the clicking was a deal breaker though.

i'll wait for the next model maybe

    • Im using one with an ebay adapter aswell. The usb attachment part cooked itself and It was just after pccasegear warranty aswell. I couldn't find any support anywhere, and they wanted around $70 for a replacement on mwave, but the day after I checked it was gone from the site. Found it on another site but it was a email to order kind of deal. Not sure how I feel about the brand anymore since finding support was a nightmare. Their support emails just sent me to dead links.

    • Hi :) would you recommend any in particular, or have the link to the adapter your bought ?

  • You can't go wrong with this one.

  • Still waiting for a wireless version of these…

    • Corsair Void Pro might be more your ticket in the same price range.

  • Can someone recommend a PS4 headset for me, I wanted these but people say the sound is too low just for PS4

    • +1

I have the official Sony headset. Actually think it's awesome. For $89 you can't really go wrong. I think it's 6.2 surround and very customisable. Doesn't get sore on my head. + it looks cool and is wireless

  • I own these and absolutely love them, for this price bracket you simply can't go wrong.
The thing I love is the adapter that you can use to change from USB to 3.5mm in seconds.

    • is that adapter included?

      • +4

headphone is 3.5mm line that gets plugged into a USB sound card…Its detachable. The headphones are not USB, the USB portion is the 7.1 usb sound card.

        • thanks :)

have had these for a while, eventually, my USB card started causing problems so I use 3.5mm jacks, and my mic after a couple of years started deteriorating but for ~$100 i can't complain

  • These are awesome, super comfy as well. I got these for $79 a few months ago from JB HIFI on sale.
If I had to nitpick, it's the mic is ONLY on the left side, I just prefer it coming from the right side lol.

  • Was looking at purchasing one of these as a gift last night. Looked into reviews and the only difference between this and their cheaper cloud's e.g. HyperX Cloud Stinger (half its price) would be the simulated 7.1 surround. I came across a few comments saying the surround doesn't work on PS4 so I'm not sure which one to go for now.

Was tossing up between the Cloud II's, Cloud Stinger and Astro A10. I have the old Astro Mixamp from ~2012 which sounds really good and also the Mixamp TR which adds a metallic echo/reverb when Dolby is switched on, might be worth grabbing the A10 and pairing it with one of these as a gift (probably the TR as it makes audio sound a lot worse than the older mixamps)

    • These are awesome for PC, i had shakey experiences on PS4 where the mic just refused to work sometimes and perfectly other times with no changes in settings.

    • +2

Cloud Stinger is not the same headphone.. Cloud Cores are if you're after the budget option

Just a heads up that these will be on clearance soon with the 2017 update, the Kingston HyperX Cloud Alpha appearing around the end of this month.

It's supposedly a nice step up from the HyperX II Pro at the same price point, so if you can afford to hold out, I'd suggest waiting and seeing what the launch prices are like, as well as the inevitable further drop in price for these will be.

  • mic+headset package buy for the convenience of the mic good as a hands-free or for console, not for the sound, cause the sound is quite honestly terrible

    • +1

These are actually made by a headphone oem maker, think its a taskstar who makes decent headphones. The sound is ok. I have a cloud core, 65 bucks don't know why you'd pay so much more for the extra accessories and usb sound card though.

    • what? the sound on these is fine. they're one of the only headsets the headphone community actually recommends

  • Great headset and very comfy for those long gaming seshs.

  • A question, if you don't require the mic, wouldn't a Bluetooth headphone offer better sound quality?
I assume that the PS4 supports Bluetooth 4.0 headphones?

    • No it doesnt support third party BT headphones, except for its own ones.

      • You can output the audio to the controller? and then use a standard headphones?
        http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/46201/ps4-how-to-output-all-a…

        • That is the standard method to use normal wired earphones. And you can use those mobile phone earphones and the mic will work for chat.

        • @KaTst3R: Awesome. I'll give that a go. Really don't have space for another delicate hps :-)

  • Good headset but the mic on mine doesn't work anymore so I had to get a blue snowball for a mic.

    • It works depending on which direction u pull the cord leading into the soundcard lol

Do not buy, wrecked within a year and the mic quality is the worst I've ever heard (worse than 90s clip on mics). Test it with Skype, its terrible.

Coming from a headphone enthusiast, the sound quality is just okay (despite how people rave about it), and it is a bit uncomfortable for wear for those with medium-larger heads or ears (tight as hell, but no reason to be).

The build quality (what matters) is very, very poor. It doesn't matter how 'tough' the shell is. This includes the mic and audio cables and connectors. This means your headset won't be destroyed but you will lose sound in one or both ears in due time.

I fell into the hype and advertising, this headphone is not good if you've tried a lot of other ones. If it's your first pair and you aren't aware of how your mic sounds compared to other mics, and you haven't ever got into the audiophile side of headphones, then you will be happy.

    • thanks for your review, as above i'm returning mine due to clicking noises.

what would you recommended instead? because these are the 'best for most people' gaming headset on wirecutter

i'm looking for a movies then gaming headphone so mic is important

      cheers

      • If you already have a pair of headphone you enjoy using, you could just get an Antlion ModMic which is basically a microphone that can be attached to your headphone. I've got a pair of ATH-M50X and instead of spending $100+ on another pair of gaming headset just so I could talk on the mic, I spent roughly $90 on the Antlion Modmic 4.0. The mic quality is excellent so I'd recommend that.

        • thanks for the suggestion, completely in line with reddit posts https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3mdk13/hardwa…

          i'll check out the ATH-M50X

any other ones worth checking out?

        • @G Wok:

imo if its for gaming, just research and try another one with a mic built in.

I think the m50x is a bit overpriced atm ($200), although the M50 is the most popular headphone in the audiophile/mainstream community, and deserves its popularity. the almost identical (except for no detachable cable) M50 has lasted me over 6 years despite being thrashed and is comfortable, good sound quality etc. I would only get this headphone or its identical predecessor M50 if you can land it for below $160 new.

inconvenience of having to deal with a clip on mic is not worth it, at least in my case. I'd just research and try another one on the list. can't really help you as I use a webcam and only play PC. All I know is my razer kraken pro and hyper cloud x ii have died on me very, very fast.

        • @takutox:

          Cool thanks for suggestions.

The cloud alpha is coming out soon, reportedly a fair bit better according to early reviews. Reckon that would be up to the audio technica challenge?

  • One of my favourite purchases, perfect for ps4 gaming, music and tv, movies. It's so comfortable too and the mic is removable when your not using it.

  • How is it compared to a Logitech G430 headset? Mine is starting to fail (broken hinge and cord issues causing audio to drop on the right earpiece) and Logitech won't help me (as they never do) and Amazon refuse to deal with it

  • Best headset ever, can comfortably game for 24hrs +

    • You can but is that good for you haha :)

  • Yup can echo the people who have had mic issues. After 3 months the mic just stopped working. Couldn't find a fix so went back to JB Hifi.

They eventually gave me a refund after spending a while trying to find a source to send the headset for repairs.

Probably the fastest headset I've owned to just fail miserably.

  • How do these compare to the Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro?

  • link broken? or gone?…

  • got a refurb a10 for $130 Inclding amp recently otherwise I would jump on this

  • Just bought this last week for $115 :(. Good headset

  • I use to have the cloud 2 , just brought the Cloud Pro with the ebay deal . sadly the Cloud 2 mic + extra ear cups + usb dax - is way better DONT GET THE CLOUD PRO
