I'm very happy with my Vega 56. Undervolted it performs very close to a 1080 and paired with a Freesync monitor, it's a beaut.

I'm relatively locked into green team at the moment (G-Sync and NVIDIA Shield TV), but very glad to see some healthy competition! Looks like next gen is going to keep nvidia in check too: http://www.game-debate.com/news/23702/amd-vega-11-production…

        • i decided to grab the gtx 1080 replacing my RX 480 which got sold overnight, any suggestion for Inexpensive G Sync screen?

        • @Meliodas: When I was in the market for G-Sync earlier this year, there were only really two options - both around $800-900. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/328883 seems like good deal for what you get though. I haven't personally seen any QHD/1440p G-Sync screens for <$800.

        • @rbin: hmm, its quite pricey, i think i will save up and probably find a good deal on christmas

  • regret picking pny one over this for $30 saving at 650 back in june..

    • In another 3 months they'll be a better deal again, don't worry about it if you've been playing and enjoying it. If you haven't played it, well then, erm.

looking for ti around 880$ mark, is it possible?

    • Sure is. Keep checking Amazon, they pop up there professionally

  • Newegg has some pretty good prices too but may be slightly higher with postage

  • Yes, any good deal on 1080 ti?

  • Awesome deal. Have been obsessing over my next video card purchase for days. This made it an easy decision!

  • Pondering whether to get this 1080 ti or should I get the Asus/Gigabyte version…feedback? Hoping the prices drop under 1k for 1080tis :(

    • I paid $959 inc. Delivery for a Gigabyte 1080Ti Xtreme a couple of weeks ago from a local retailer during the last eBay sale a couple of weeks ago, so it's possible.

    • This is the lowest I've seen the MSI Gaming X 1080Ti in recent times, but definitely still possible (especially for other brands/configs). Also, $999.20 < $1k right? :D

As an aside, unless you're gaming at 4K or doing some gfx intensive rendering e.g. VR/Maya etc., do you need a Ti?

  • Finally pulled the trigger on this guy yesterday.

  • Thanks OP! I purchased the Gigabyte G1 Gaming model instead, for the same price. Now waiting for a decent Acer Predator deal and my rig will be complete. :)

    • Out of interest, what made you go the Gigabyte? I (relatively blindly) followed my own tradition of going the MSI Gaming (mainly for the dB).
      Edit: derpy spelling

I have always trusted Gigabyte, my peripherals have been reliable for years. It also has an extra fan and LED :) but it's more of a brand preference, I guess.

        • Fair enough!

  • should i sell my rx 480 and get this instead… hmm decision decision

    • Why not wait a little bit longer to see if mining craze settles down, if it does, prices drop, if it doesn't new tech should be available. RX 480 is still good.

      • i think it is the best time to sell your video card now, with the mining craze going on i can still gain profit from selling my used video card,

not to mention an rx 480 which is quite valuable for miners

        • True… Do it!

Also PC Case Gear is selling the Vega 56 for $599.

        • @FabMan:
tbh, i was quite excited for vega, but there is a lot of issue with vega, there are lots of thermal throttling under high load, video playback issue and ofcourse, sub-par blower style cooler.

i just can't wait for after market vega anymore and for $100 more i can get one of the best vga card money could buy, sure its a tough decision since i don't have a g-sync. But its too sweet of a deal to pass. i will however monitor the market, this year is good for amd and i hope they produce a better vga in the future

        • @Meliodas: Of course.

Just FYI the Vega 56 it seems can take a simple undervolt on the card which allows for greater performance per watt as it throttles less. So with the undervolt it runs faster than the 1080 stock. Undervolt is done via AMD drivers.

Another option is that the Vega 64 BIOS can be flashed onto the Vega 56 allowing for much higher speeds, 98% of the performance in gaming as the Vega 64. This of course increases the power consumption.

My goal is to undervolt and get the speed boost, then when I upgrade my PC get an aftermarket cooler and overclock it.

Original german(translated) article showing undervolt, look at performance charts lower down

When mine arrives I'll be testing it.

        • +1

@FabMan: Great, i really excited about the undervolting itself,i hope it will be great for you, meanwhile i will enjoy my 1080 that will be coming today, i hopw you receive yours soon and enjoy it aswell, and i really hope amd set ups a great competition so we can get a much better price on both graphics card

Probably best to jump on a deal if you need a GPU as prices will most certainly rise, given the ~30% increase in GDDR5 pricing as manufacturers redirect supply away from GPU to the handheld market.

  • I want to highlight an alternative:

XFX Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB at $599 + Delivery ($21) from PC Case Gear

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/40106

$120.20 (~13%) cheaper than this deal.

If you don't mind tinkering with a few bits of software you should be able to undervolt and overclock the Vega 56 to increase performance while lowering power consumption… This is not a guarantee. There is always flashing the Vega 64 BIOS to the Vega 56 to give it 98% the gaming performance of the 64, with a greater power consumption… Again, no guarantee.
