Don't forget to pay via Paypal for 10% cash back makes this deal: $799.20 I think

Nice tip! $799 for a 50" Samsung Plasma - BARGAIN!

  • 1080i only, so not Full HD right?

    • Resolution 1,365 x 768

lol - thats the worst comment ive ever see in my life.

  • This is the Series 4 which is the HD model - Not the Full HD.
I have the Series 5 (full HD) and have been happy with it.
Check out the TVs ability to display a full white screen - mine tends to be grey rather than white.
Dont bother with the expensive USB wireless connection dongle they are selling - there is no benefits for connecting this to the net.

    • "Check out the TVs ability to display a full white screen - mine tends to be grey rather than white."

      • Turn off Eco-Sensor (Menu->Picture), and you'll notice that whites are actually white !
coz plasmas burn most energy while showing white, eco-sensor kicks in by default

I have this model. I got it from an insurance claim through Harvey Norman in August. Price tag was $1399, but insurance replacement cost (on invoice) showed $869. Either way, it is a great TV and much better than the Kogan 'Full HD' model that it replaced.

    • Mate I just bought one but have to wait for delivery. I'm curious - what was the Kogan model it replaced?

Maximum Power Consumption (Watts):460. I'm in the market for a new TV (have patiently waited for the bugs to be ironed out of this new technology and prices to drop) but 460 watts? Wow!

    • Is that high or low?

      • +1

too high, Series 5 50" is rated 330W, and a Panasonic 50" V20 is under 250W, but then again, Plasmas's power consumption varies a lot based on PQ

        • yeah, but those are probably neopdp.

  • If only this was Full HD :(

  • I do agree that $799 after paypal deal is awesome, but there is 62 dollars delivery. Can we buy online and collect it at the store to avoid the delivery cost?

    • I don't think so, why not walk into the store and nego the price for 799, you may do better than this price.

How does it look from sitting about 3 metres away? Will you notice the lower res screen?

Also, warranty on the site says "$1001-$1500" so obviously they haven't updated the warranty and made it cheaper to reflect the lower cost of the TV so I'd be weary of buying right away.

    EDIT:

Here are the proper links to the extended warranty if people want them:

    • Hi bigosmallo. I sit 2.5m away and I think the picture is superb. I had a KOGAN Full HD and though it was clear this Samsung has better colours and looks great.

  • woops. see bigosmallo reply.

  • The paypal 10% off is it automatically adjusted if u choose paypal?

Guys, just wait for Google TV.

    http://www.google.com/tv/

  • Where does it say to pay by PayPal and get 10% off? I could not find on PayPal site and here.

  • Very good price. I just paid $2378 for the new 58" FUll HD 3D (Series 7) with free 3D Blu Ray Player and 3 glasses and some crappy 3D Blu Ray.

Holy shit though checkout that new Sony promo!

  • 32" you can get away with a normal HD TV.
I wouldn't want anything above 40" without being FULL HD though. Otherwise its the only thing dragging the TV down to not being an absolute steal at that price. :(

That said, if you're going to be sitting back 6+ metres from the screen I suppose this wouldn't be too bad.

  • Guys I've just taken the plunge. JB has 15% off online which makes this $754.80.
    https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/default.aspx?T=10364&P=51921…
PLUS there is the 10% paypal rebate which expires end of the month.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32808
Which makes it $679.50 after the rebate! Downside is there is a 2-4 week waiting period as they are currently out of stock, but since the paypal transaction happened today I will get the rebate.
No doubt there will be some fantastic deals leading up to Christmas but if I bought this one MUST be cheap!

    • +1

So did you end up paying 679.50 or 740.60 which includes postage?

      • Well yes $740.60 including postage. Still I'd rather not have to lug it myself and the same would go for any plasma I purchased - so delivery would be at least that for any plasma.
BTW: Hit your + vote button by mistake!

  • I bought it in store today and paid $726 inc Gst. Delivery should be mid november.
Let me know If anyone wants a copy of the receipt

    • Which store pls?

      • Carousel

    • Is that including delivery to your house or to the store? Were they confident about that date as I was told possiibly as late as end of November?

  • BTW: The whole power thing for me is a non-issue. With the money you save on the plasma you can buy a 2nd small LCD TV for those times when a big screen is not an issue. Depending upon you viewing habits and how you take advantage of that situation, you could on average be using less power than if you had one expensive LCD TV. PLUS you would extend the life of your plasma since you won't be using it all the time.
