Hi all,
I have been searching for a decent low-mid end machine for about a fortnight. I was looking at the recent excellent EM7000 deal but I wanted something more compact and basic. I have smallish kitchen and do not have the space for a bigger machine and a grinder. This is a new model from sunbeam so there aren't many reviews around. What got my attention is that it has a 58mm group head but uses dual wall filter baskets. This is a entry level, low skills, high ease of use machine. Very different to the recently posted good guys $399 EM7000 deal. The rrp is $269 and I haven't seen any real discounting yet on the model.
I had a look at one in store at the Good guys yesterday and the build is very light but the quality seems to be there, for the price. I like that its light because we sometimes take our machine with us on holidays (just local beach ones - not on the plane!)
Another thing that caught my attention was there are alot of very positive reviews on the sunbeam website (seems to be the most highly rated model at the moment). It may be the case that its a new model and there hasn't been enough time for breakdowns to start occurring.

Nifty machine for the price, you can see where they have shaved cost off the 6910/7000 series (portafilter is one piece with permanent dual output, no water level sensor, single thermoblock, smaller all plastic tamper).
The main downside, you cant steam and pour at the same time, and you have to wait for the temperature to stabilize, but at least it has some lights to let you know.
The 58mm basket also looks like the one used on the higher end models and is generally considered pretty good.
