    says warranty for 12 months

    • Im assuming its the store warranty, thats why I added the intel link. Failing that as intel have said it should last min 5 years, stat warranty would apply

      • +7

umart basically only ever list 12 month warranty on every product. Regardless of what the manufacturer warranty actually is.

        • +4

That's the opposite of what the law is!

        • @picklewizard: Umart are dodgey thats why. Call them on it, and its just an oversight but you have to wonder how often that scam works for them.

        • +3

@Tuba: Probably depends on what uMart you go to.

          Just like MSY.

          MSY Slacks creek, pretty good.
          MSY Morningside, Gods among men.

Going by internet reports on MSY from OTHER states?
          THE DEVIL!

          Ditto uMart;
uMart at Milton (assuming you don't get the 'owner'), quite helpful.
uMart at Slacks Creek, some of the best guys you'll EVER deal with, super chill, and helpful.

But then you get people like yourself who report (I assume) OTHER locations as 'Dodgy'.

Perhaps QLD just lucked out in the PC store game, lol.

@MasterScythe: Maybe. If they list 12 months, when its 5years thats dodgey IMO. Some might say they have no loss if they deal with warranty, but they lose potential sale of a new SSD in this case. I wonder how many fall through the crack.

I actually had to return a WD Black HDD, it also has 5 years and despite web being wrong, I never needed to argue it, but the guys I deal with know I will argue it. I have had to contend with a faulty ASUS router that bricked the day I opened the box after it wanted to update its firmware. Was told it would be sent off to ASUS, and could take anything from 2 weeks to 3 months to find out how to deal with it. I had to buy a TP Link to replace it or be sans modem/router. I was angry I can tell you. So I tossed it in its box, and threw it on a shelf. 9 or so months later I decide might as well send it off, rang ASUS, they said it should have been replaced that day no questions asked as it was under 30 days old and that is standard policy for them. Ill admit, its not what ASUS said that day as I did ring them, but they said they had to follow Umarts setup re: warranty, as only Umart could seek the RMA. Needless to say, Umart blamed ASUS.

They both made my $%^7list. I still buy from Umart, but only if I need it now, and its much cheaper. Otherwise I buy online. Sunny Coast is not teeming with discount PC parts and Im not going to punish myself.

FYI Intel warranty is so great, its not worth dealing with the store.

Intel usually send DHL around to pickup the faulty item, express it to Singapore and express a replacement in a few days.

Also OP maybe something that just needs to be clarified is that its the 540S drive.

Just wanting to make sure everyone who purchases this is aware of the poor performance of the drive.

    • title updated. cheers for the heads up!

It has some speed issues relating to sequential writes, where it will drop to a level below a normal mechanical 7200rpm drive

Wow I guess that's why it's so cheap.

  • Im so confused with M.2. My Asus Z97-A i believe only supports PCI based M.2 not SATA based. Which one is this?

    • +3

      This one's SATA only.

There are some that supports both, such as Intel 600P or Samsung 960 EVO. But note that SATA has a lower transfer speed compared to PCI.

  • Can this be swapped in to use on a MacBook Air 2013?

    • +2

Apple uses their own custom SSD blade design. A regular M.2 SSD blade won't work here (just won't fit).

      • Sir, should we also use a standard design port for an SSD?
No, make it slightly irregular and non universal and charge a 3x mark up for essentially the same product.

        • +5

My professional advice is to stop using Apple products.

m2 2242 bargains are nigh impossible.

  • I want to try M2 but the graphics card covers the socket

    • +1

My GPU covers the m.2, it just sits underneath it

      • +1

thanks, I'll have a close look

  • jesus. that's huge. and cheap af.

  • Lame question but where do I plug it in? I have a 7 year old motherboard (Asus P7P55D-E-Pro 4DDR3 FSB2133(OC)). I use 2 box looking SSDs attached via sata cable. How do I connect that SSD?

    • +2

Forget it unless it's got an M.2 slot. Kind of slides in flat.

Do you mean 6Gb/s not GB/s?

6 GB/s for that price is impossible.

  • I think it will be perfect works on XiaoMi Air 13.3

  • damn, i'm in the market for a 2.5" SSD. ah well i'll keep waiting.

  • My motherboard is the Asus Maximus VII hero. Will this work with it?

  • Last time I used Umart my credit card details were used fraudulently shortly afterwards. Just saying..

    • +1

I highly doubt it was umart who leaked them. Umart do a lot of trade, they're not done little pop up computer stall.

      • Admittedly this quite a few years ago now, but their database was hacked at some point or they had/have a dodgy employee.

        http://www.zdnet.com/article/spam-sparks-umart-investigation…

        • Here is a few links for reference, I could find more on Umart and MSY but don't wanna go full on conspiracy mode, I will say don't use any of your actual email addresses or details if and when you use them.

Umart still do the dodgy, had my laptop in for a simple fix (didn't wanna void the warranty) and it took them 2 months longer than it should have and was very suspicious so I scoured through the laptop, won't say what I found but it was unbelievable, contacted the police, they didn't give a flying (profanity) and told me to contact the ACCC and having dealt with the ACCC before I can tell you they give less of a (profanity) than the police.

MSY and Umart are a joke.

I had MSY try replace a broken/faulty/recalled laptop with an already used laptop, was blatantly obvious, the guy running the counter tried to (profanity) me around and then finally agreed to call the boss after I insisted, he then goes in back and begins speaking what I think was viet or korean (I can imagine what they were saying but won't entertain the thought).

    • After going between MSY and Umart over the last 10+ years I must say MSY is the lesser of two evils, they will try their best to screw you on a warranty but at least they won't leak info or put malware etc on your hard drives when you take it in for a simple fix.

  • this Disables one of your Sata 3 Ports right?

Can someone recommend a USB case for this?

  • How come I see it for $215? I change locations and it briefly changes to $169 before reverting back to $215.
