Installing security CCTV around home

Hi all,

I want to install CCTV for my home (mainly outside front yard and back so looking around just 4 cameras) and want to know what's recommended security experts would be able to install for my house.

I'm looking at something that's great recording at night, motion detection and also have the option to wifi connect along with normal recording via HDD.

If anyone can recommend me a site that does that and can install at my house, please let me know.

Budget $2000, nothing too fancy.

4 of these for under $80 total, and I'll keep the remaining $1920 as a fee :)

Xiaofang is indoor camera though, I use mine indoors to take a peek through my balcony doors, but I'm not so sure about outdoor usage.

I think OP might be after a PoE camera setup, which also requires an NVR.

      how will op power them?

You could try the Netgear Arlo Pro but as the review points out, it's a premium setup that will cost you $$$. To be precise, $1399 from Gerry's.

But it looks relatively hassle free and is completely wireless. It uses its own 2.4ghz wireless network so it doesn't bog down your existing wifi setup. You will need to charge the camera's batteries once every 3 months though.

      • I've got the 4 camera Arlo Pro kit and I'm pretty happy with it. Being wireless gives you flexibility in where you want to put, so you can easily move it if the spot you had in mind doesn't work out as you planned.

On a side note: I've also got the Arlo base station, my modem, router and NAS on a UPS, so if anyone is smart enough to cut power to my house, then the camera system will still report back to the cloud for about 100 minutes. Don't forget that any system is only as strong as it's weakest point.

        • What is someone cuts your phone line ?

        • @obiwanmy: My internet doesn't use a phone line ;) They can cut all the phone lines they like

        • @nytrojen: What if they cut the internet cable?

        • @Diji1: It still records locally to USB

      • You'd be crazy to pay $1399.

I got mine from Amazon, but you can get them from Smarthome as well.

4 x camera Arlo Pro should be costing you around $800

  • Hikvision POE cameras hooked up to a NAS and POE switch. Or https://www.sengled.com.au/ for easy to install and Ring door bell is pretty cool. Ubiquiti Unifi is also good.

  • I m inclined to go with the dahua one of the model has motorized lens covering 2.8mm to 12mm. Easier to set the field of coverage i reckon.

  • Hikvision really easy to set up and quality is great both day and night.
