    Awesome Deal.

    Damn this is cheap.

  • +2

ongoing fees put me off these devices.

  • Ongoing cloud fees looks like a requirement for this to do anything useful.

That and this review doesn't give it many positives, https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.networkworld.com/article…

Anyone else with experience suggest these are a good option? A truely wireless security camera, in this price range, still looks too good to be true.

A piece of hardware that requires the internet and a subscription payment to operate is not a good option.

      • Agree - with Netgear's Arlo you get a free basic subscription which probably suits most users quite well.

    • I just ordered another one of these with the solar panel. I bought one a while a go and it was so easy to set-up and use. It is only $40 per year for the cloud service and good for piece of mind as the motion sensor is pretty good especially is you aim it at an exposed area of your house eg a driveway. You can talk to people through it too.

The Live view option is also good if you are away from the house and you are concerned about weather or roadworks or something happening in your street or area.

I certainly would recommend it at this price and the solar panel keeps it charged all day long (as long as it gets a reasonable amount of sun).

8 out of 10 proctologists recommend this model.

yeh - glad it's not called stick up ring camera.

      • +1

The only stick up is when they get $299 for one from some schmuck that then has to pay $40PA to use it

  • I have been using the ring for over a year and it has been a godsend. One of the best things I have bought. No problem with connection to my home internet and the $35 a year subscription is a no brainer. It has been terrific when I have been away. I tell delivery guys to leave parcels. See visitors who arrive unannounced and more.

    • +3

Really? You talk to delivery guys via this? I have a Ring. Very good home wifi and internet connection.

No delivery person ever waited long enough after pressing the doorbell for me to establish a connection to the doorbell on my phone while I am away for this to ever work in reality.

It's just another bit of fanciful advertising that doesn't work in real life.

Clearly you have very patient delivery people in your area.

      • It depends on your internet connection, I have ring doorbell and we always talk to the delivery guys to leave the parcels as well. I think the experience with iPhone app is a lot better, never missed a bit. But it's a different story with Android, I had a lot of missed ring with my Xiaomi phone, not sure if it has something to do with the MIUI OS or Android, I noticed that I have to open the Ring App on android to get notifications.

  • Just tried to order a solar panel and use paypal and it keeps saying billing state required even though it went through Paypal. Can you help OP?

  • It's OK fixed the problem. Changed the address in Paypal. Ordered

  • I am wondering if we have multiple devices (Ring Stick Up Cam & Ring Video Doorbell) - do we need to pay extra for cloud fees

    • Yes, A$40 per device annually, or if you have more than 4 devices, better go with A$150/unlimited device annually with lifetime warranty.

Forced cloud storage subscription kills this for me. If I had the option to utilise my own local storage, it would be awesome. Plenty of competitor cameras offer that basic feature, so its a no go for me (great price though!).

    • +1

Not just forced cloud storage as a value-added service, it has no option to even record locally so that you have no choice but to pay for cloud in order to make this useful in basic ways. This is a deliberate feature reduction in order to drive profits. Imagine buying a car and then be asked to pay yearly in order to enable the "reverse" feature.

      Poor business ethics IMO.

      • Yep, that was my gripe too. No worries if they want to offer cloud storage, but at least allow local storage for those that want it.

        Not offering it seems greedy.

  • Anyone know of a good system that would suit an internal system to watch over the drinks cabinet?

    • +3

You're in luck, I offer such a service, however there have been occurrences of heightened evaporation during monitoring periods, so the perceived value may vary.

HIKCameras have record to sd and free remote access via the cloud now. Good value in my opinion.

  • Looks like out of stock. Good deal. I do like the alarm feature of the Arlo pro though, that and the forced payment for cloud storage and no local storage for these make Arlo seem better.

  • Couldn't you DIY a similar door security camera system using an app on a spare mobile phone together with a solar panel? Plus a powerbank if necessary?
